Andrea 23 --- one of the BEST series I've read!

Bethany I am 16 1/2 years old, and this book goes on my top favorite books list, I absolutely loved it!!!! I even got my Mom to read it, and now she's hooked too!! After I finished the first book, I was so into it that I searched online until I found two websites to read books 2 and 3 of the series!!

Haidi 33 and I couldn't put it down.

I was nine.

trace ♡°。 i read all three in 2010 so i was 19 or 20. i tend to avoid YA books like the plague, but i decided to believe the hype. as soon as i started the first one, i pre-ordered mockingjay for the release date RIGHT quick, haha. probably the last book i will ever pre-order, tbh :(

Emily i was 15

Amanda I read it last year, I'm 26. Absolutely adored it. I do think it's more for maybe 15-16 up. I guess it just depends on the individual.

Rosa Lina (THAT girl) I was twelve and in seventh grade. I think 6th grade and up is fine.

9. I started reading harry potter in kindergarten, so its not that suprising.

Rachael I just read it and am 24. LOVED the book. unimpressed by the movie.

Jennifer 28, i think it depends on the child on how old they should be. some kids can handle it while others cant. i say let the parents decide

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

13.. though if i had heard of it before, i could have handled it at a younger age..

Rachael wrote: "I just read it and am 24. LOVED the book. unimpressed by the movie."

Same here.. the movie should not be related to the book

Rachael I think the hunger games is bigger that twilight and harry potter as it has a much larger group of people interested. Boys, Girls, kids, adults. There are few movies that i want to see which my husband will actually watch with me...which shows how wide an audience this has. I use the movie as the example here as my husband doesnt read but i think it goes for the books as well.

And as for letting your kids read these books. I actually dont see any harm with letting your kids read them if they want to read them. Im pretty sensitive to any animal deaths in books (usually dont finish the book when it happens) but i think in the context of the book everything works well together. Even the brutal deaths don't have too much of an impact as you know they are part of the game, and it's a fictional story! but i dont have kids so perhaps i'm not the best person to judge.

last year,13

Sarah I read it when it first came out at 11 or 12.

I don't think it's ok for anyone under 11. My brother read it in the 4th grade, but he was pretty mature for that age.

Kelley 47 and I loved the series.

Katelyn Broad 21 cause I'm old like that. I could have handled it when I was 14 or so. I kinda think about it like Harry Potter. I started reading harry potter when I was 9 but it didn't start out as dark, by the time it became really dark, I was old enough to handle it.

Amanda 25

Andrea Halbersma 33

Patrick I was 12 and I think that it is ok for everbody my sister is 8 and she read it and said it was fine.:)

Shaelin Bishop I was 12, but I know lots of people who read it at a younger age.

Marium I was 10, but I am very mature and was really mature then too. I was used to reading violent books, and I was used to reading romance and mature content, so as a reader I was probably 13 or 14.

Krista Holle Has the book been around that long? I thought it was fairly recent?

Heather 26!

Allison I think one of the best things about the Hunger Games its that it crosses both ages and genders. But it is suggested that the book be read by kids older than 12 with the movie being rated only PG-13

Janis 30! Could not put them down!

message 85: by Ruby (last edited Mar 28, 2012 06:03PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ruby 10 or 11 I think.....

and fell in love with it immediantly!

message 86: by Cam (new) - rated it 3 stars

Cam 17....I got into the series because of my teacher, and I like it...I mean it`s just a good book. It`s not an obcession.

message 87: by T. (new) - rated it 5 stars

T. 13. There's a lot of graphic stuff in here, and I'm pretty squeamish when it comes to stuff like that. I'd agree with the 11-12 rule. Go Hunger Games!

message 88: by Gopi (new) - rated it 2 stars

Gopi 14...I have never watched a “train-wreck” reality show. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a reality show, unless you count the cooking shows like Iron Chef America. Hated it, enough said.

Andrea 12/13

Shula I don't exactly want to say, but I know someone in fourth grade who's . . . hard to describe, and definitely shouldn't be reading it.

Shula Also, I agree with the 11-12 rule.

David 16

Danica I was/am 22. I only just finished the book this afternoon (Started it last week).

I hope no one hates me for my opinion - honestly, this is SUCH a subjective question, and people mature at different rates, so we can't pick one age for everyone, but coming from my own life, background, and feelings on the subject, here goes:

While I think the writing can be easily appreciated by younger audiences (10-12 ish), I think the content is a little mature. I realize that kids are growing up faster now-a-days, but I personally would rather see kids wait until they're a little older - middle school or even high school - for some of this content.

I saw a strong theme in this book against desensitization to violence (all those in the Capitol who watched the gore for entertainment), and I feel that the sad irony is when younger and younger children are subjected to violent books and movies.

I think the content of this book is brilliant, and I very much enjoyed it. And the maturity level of a child is something to be decided by the child and the parent. Knowing where I was as a 12 year old, I know I wasn't ready for such material. And I just strongly believe that a child shouldn't "grow up" too quickly, but should be allowed to mature and appreciate these topics in their own time.

Danica (I guess I should read the comments before I comment. I'm glad there are a couple others who think kids should wait until they're a little older)

Olivia Land I read it when i was 10 but i was reading books i shouldbt have then. My brother is 9 and his teacher is reading it to him. I thinks its kind of violent for most 9 year olds

Melissa No one in our family could stand either the Harry Potter books or Twilight, but we all loved the Hunger Games series. We all just read them a few months ago. I'm 40, and my daughters are 15 and 13. They are at a good age for the books.
We saw the movie on Friday night and it fell a bit flat for us because the characters couldn't be developed well enough in the short amount of time the movie had to do so.

Arushi 12/13 ;)

Wow, I completely agree with you on twilight but that harry potter comment was a bit harsh ...
