Hi Kristi, What about The Mysterious Benedict Society for this task?

Forensics may or may not work, but from the description of this book is sounds like Alex is a computer whiz and that will work.

I was looking at it from the persepctive of the first part - f/nf that focuses on focuses on a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) - because forensics falls into the realm of science and technology...

but i had another book I am considering as well

Does We Have Always Lived in the Castle fit for this task? It's the "Books With Nerdy, Geeky, or Genius Heroes and Heroines" list, but other than that I know nothing about it.

As long as Alex's computer skills or the science behind the forensic investigation is actually part of the story it'll work. In some of the romantic suspense I've read (the ones I actually like ;-)) the forensics in the investigation is explained and it's actually part of the story. In others, unfortunately, it just seems like the forensics is a hook to get you to pick up the book (i.e., if you like CSI you'll like this book -- not) but the science is never really mentioned.

Here's another book I got off the "Books With Nerdy, Geeky, or Genius Heroes and Heroines": The Dream-Hunter.

I think it was on the list because the heroine is an underwater archeologist. She could be a nerd character in that she's totally devoted to her work, doesn't worry about how she looks, and is very intelligent. Is that enough for this challenge? If not, don't worry, I can use it in another task.

Would Black Rose work, as the heroine uses science to create new plants and soil compositions for her garden store. Also the hero is a bit "geeky" with all of his genealogy research.
