As long as you stay active the shortness of breath doesn't happen. In fact I have maintained a healthier lifestyle because I have to stay fit in order to stave off the effects of smoking. But truthfully my wife quit 3 years ago and she is slowly but surly wearing down my resolve to smoke. We will see who has the stronger will.

If my husband still smoked I would murder him in envy...in his sleep. I think that's the only reason he doesn't.
I think everyone should take it up again. What are we holding on to our health for? I can't foresee anything in the future worth sticking around for.
Hey, Gretchen? When i started smoking, i did it for the nicotine buzz. When i didn't get the buzz anymore, i quit for a few weeks, then started again. Eventually i reached the point that i no longer got the buzz, but still smoked cigarettes anyway...but no matter when or why i pick 'em back up...i can always put them back down any time i choose without a second thought. I just wanted to share that with you.
Me? Never told a lie in my life. I can't remember the last time i had a cigarette...2 years ago, maybe?18 months? Can't remember the last time i smoked a pipe, either, but i know it hasn't been nearly as long. November, maybe. That's a tobacco pipe, for the record. Mostly aromatics, but sometimes a latakia or virginia. Perique, once in a blue moon. And i've still got a gift certificate to a smokes shop from giftmas that i haven't spent yet.
To be fair though, i think at the most i was smoking about a half a pack a day... and i started on cigars and pipes before i started cigarettes.
I still have not smoked since the last time I told y'all. It's not hard. I even HAVE cigarettes in my purse, and I haven't touched them! The only hard thing is to not smoke when I'm out having a beer with another smoker who is smoking. Then I smoke about 8. If nobody else is smoking, then I'm not, either. The only times I've smoked in the last month are two different times when I hung out with the Hater Creator.
I don't think I'm addicted. At all. I think it's just a social thing and also there are certain triggers. Like when I'm driving West on Powell Blvd., I always want to smoke because I associate it with being on my way to my friend's house who I used to smoke with all the time, but she actually quit four years ago.

Are you still expostulating* about this?
*I just taught this word to second graders today and had them practice it and told them to put it into use and get back to me. I thought I'd do the same. :)
