Dana | 27 comments Overall i loved the series, but I was disappointed with how this book ended.

I was rooting for Gale the whole time so I am angry that Katniss just let him go and that he just ran off to District 2 and barely said goodbye!

I know I am not the only one COMPLETELY devastated by Finnick's death, but I probably could have coped better if Annie hadn't had his baby after he died. *cries*

All in all the sequel to the series is reminiscent of the sequel to Matched(Reached), in the way that it was strangely boring at the parts all about the war, and there were unnecessary deaths to loved characters.

Brandon Book Nerd (kuyabrandon) | 43 comments I admit I was pretty sad to see these series end. After all, it's my favorite so far. But until recently, I was always thinking of how Mockingjay ended. But did you know Suzanne Collins announced a prequel?? I hope that's true; I hope it's not only a rumor. But I'm excited to find out if it's true!

This is a group that when we have 10 members we will have a reaping and 5 tributes will be chosen to battle in the arena which one of the mods will choose its a new arena and experience every time. Choose your character, choose your district, choose your weapon, and fight to the death!

I tell him, "Real." ❤❤❤
Perfect ending for a perfect series.

When I finished this book I was a kind of sad. Not just because of all the people that need to die, but also that I finished the trilogy. When I was reading it (and I am glad I read it in the vacation, because if I didn't I would have skipped school.) I couldn't stop turning the pages on and on. I am definitely going to read The Hunger Games a second time, I love it so much...

Yes, you are.

Janae | 3 comments Yea TEAM PEETA!!! Sorry

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

Gale is a JERK. End of story. For me.

message 112: by Jessi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jessi (jessilovesbooks) haha sorry Zach, you're definitely in the minority. I don't hate Gale, but I was totally rooting for Peeta. But one of my friends just finished the book and she was all for Gale.

message 113: by Diana (new) - rated it 4 stars

Diana Petkovic Yes, originally I had the same reaction to finishing this book as many others have. It would have been better, for me, if Katniss sounded happier in the end. Stepping away from it though, I have to say that I think Collins was brilliant with the evolution of this story. Of course the characters would be left with scars after going through a brutal war, not to mention the games themselves (whether as participants or viewers). Each evolved in a manner that was true to themselves from the beginning. Ultimately (spoiler alert) Katniss and Peeta are alive and together, and the peace of that is enough for them. The happiness and hope lies in the children.

Francesca Moore | 4 comments I didn't enjoy this book so much because of the lack of actual 'games'. It was kind of like with the Matrix trilogy where they didn't actually go into the matrix at all in the final installment, everyone felt a bit let down.

I am excited about the film, not sure how they will split it into two parts. Julianne Moore looks pretty cool as Alma Coin in the photographs they have released.

Esther | 4 comments Lisa-Anne wrote: "NOW my curiosity will be what will happen to Plutarch Heavensbee? How will they explain the change in his looks between Part 1 and Part 2? Or even during part 1?!"

I don't think they need to explain anything. They had two different actors playing Prof. Dumbledore in Harry Potter series due to the first actor's death.

message 117: by Ricky (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ricky (spider-fan) Philip Seymour Hoffman was able to film most of his scenes for both parts before he died. The rest have either been rewritten to take Plutarch out, or, in at least one case, used CGI to insert Plutarch into the scene.

Esther | 4 comments Just finished the series and I would say Catching Fire is my favorite among the three. I find the third book a bit slow and dragging in the beginning and rushed and in need of further elaboration at the end. I am also one of the people rooting for Peeta. Gale is too selfish for my taste.

message 119: by Ricky (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ricky (spider-fan) @Esther: I agree re: Catching Fire and Peeta.

Janae | 3 comments I agree

arabella | 15 comments Spoilers for ones that haven't read Mockingjay, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED *Lorax voice*

This book is so very depressing, but I do agree with everything that happened. Yes, I know it's cruel that I agree with Finnick's death, but there does need to be a little more heartbreak than necessary to make the readers hearts hurt... :,(

Prim's death was ultimately necessary. It was a necessity, to Katniss' evolution to the ending and therefore influenced what would happen to Prim and Katniss' mom. It also affected Katniss' destination, because she wouldn't have killed Coin. Killing Coin, majorly affected Katniss.

Katniss killed Coin, because she figured out it was Gale's 'unattentional bomb' that killed Prim that Coin had him make to be the catalyst to Snow's death so she could be president. Katniss also killed Coin, because she thought she was just as bad as Snow if not worse.

Prim's death played a necessary role in the plot to this book and the ending.

Throughout the series I never really knew who Katniss should go with, I was just as confused as her until about maybe the middle of Mockingjay. I just finally said I like Peeta so much, although in the wry beginning of the first book I was Gale all the way until when we started getting to know Peeta.

I kinda already knew when he said in the interview with Flickerman "She came here with me...", that I'd so like him. In Catching Fire and Mockingjay he got my heart. Although Gale also in Catching Fire had my vote.

Katniss' development throughout the series is amazing and I love how Suzanne Collins ended the series. Although I'd like to hear a little bit more from Katniss, I'd pretty much LOVE for a prequel to happen. Of anything in the world I would want that!

Anyway I think Mockingjay was well written and genius!

Chyna | 1 comments Why is this in two movie parts? wish it wasn't!

message 123: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 344 comments Just got back from seeing Mockingjay Pt 1. I thought it was a bit slow in places (not surprising when they're trying to stretch a reasonably short book into two movies) but still enjoyable. They almost ended it where I thought they were going to end it. From what I remember of the book, it was also quite accurate, although it's been a while since I've read it.

message 124: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought at first that it was overrated, but after reading it a few years later, I found it was better than I thought

Roxanne R | 8 comments The first time I read this book I really didn't like it but the second time I read it made me love it. I think I had too many expectations the first time round which ultimately ruined the book for me.

Pranjali (pranjalim) What the hell happened to Katniss?? She's like a super strong, confident protagonist in the first two books and this book... Oh gosh. I really got annoyed at her character in this book. And also the fact that the book was stuck in the underground district 13 and was kind of slow for the first half or so. I'd really enjoyed the first two books and was really looking forward to this one. Anyway gave it a 3.5ish out of 5

T.J. Shores (tjshortt) I really enjoyed the book, but was also left wondering what happened to Katniss. She almost faded to the background of her own book.

Lynne Stringer | 344 comments PTSD does that to you.

Lauraeimre | 49 comments I'm not a fan of this series, especially this book. I started to like THG when I read "Catching Fire" but when I read this one. Nope, this series is definitely overhyped

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) My least favourite book of the three, I found this novel far too political to hold my interest for long.

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

Least favorite of the three it was a little boring in the start finnick's death was just soooo unwanted and the ending was so quickly over but still it was good but by far catching fire was the best

message 132: by Archie (new) - rated it 2 stars

Archie (aswarmofbees) I didn't feel like this was a well written, I feel like it was an excuse to kill off as many characters as possible and the ending is my least favorite book ending of all time.

message 133: by Taylor (new) - rated it 5 stars

Taylor I will forever wish that Finnick was not killed off, to me his death was unnecessary. This book had so much death and emotional turmoil that I was glad to see the epilogue in the end but at the same time I wish it had been a little less bitter-sweet.

Aleksandra | 3 comments I'm glad that when I was reading the book for the first time I had no idea about people's reaction to it was. Afterwards, when I saw that it was widely disliked, I was shocked. For me, it was very draining emotionally. I cried almost all the time. At first, Katniss missing Peeta and worrying about him, then being shocked when he tries to kill her and sees they made him hate her, then the excruciating finale... and the tentative happy ending. But all this only made me appreciate it more. It was a real emotional roller coaster but this would not have been so if it could not influence the reader. I think it was quite realistic. After all the devastation and death, it was only normal for the characters to be damaged beyond repair and only make a tentative recovery. It is love that saves them in the end, but it takes a lot of time. In the epilogue, when you see Katniss 20 years after the revolution ends and she still hasn't overcome her fears, it rings true. But still, she has got the strength to move on and raise a family and be somewhat optimistic about the future. Overall, it has some pretty great moments. And the ending, it was everything I believe Peeta deserved.
