Naomiz I am not interested in reading the Mortal Instruments. Are the Infernal Devices a stand alone series?
That is to say, could I follow the story?

TIA

Louie I already read The infernal devices I think its better than the Mortal instruments.

The love is different it has more spark? lol and the thrill of being thorn between two lovers (although in the mortal instruments there is a torn between two lovers scene) but it is different a lot of questions is dangling in my mind like. what would happen to will? would jem die?

I can't wait for the third book :)

Louie Yes. But there are characters (the immortals ones) were mentioned or still the characters in the other book. The mortal instruments are based in the modern times and the infernal devices occurred during the 1700 or 1800? so their difference is time.

:)

Natalie I personally liked the ID better (so far) for many reasons, but if you read the MI the shadow-world would make more sense in ID, but you can still read it alone, but for full satisfaction I read both.

Hannah Yup, it's a prequal series so you don't need to read the Mortal Insturments before your read the Infernal Devices. But if you want a better understanding then you should read Mortal Instruments first. Both series are very good but I also agree with Natalie and I think the ID series is way better.

Sydney Yeah you could just read TID, but I think that reading TMI gives you a lot more knowledge of the shadowhunter world which could be a plus.

Veronica If I could do it differently, I would read ID before MI. That way I can connect all of the names and see who is related to who and see how the past effected to present.

They are better separated I think. I read MI first and now that I read ID I cannot stop comparing the two in my head. However, the romantic angle in ID is so much better. It actually feels natural. I felt like in MI it had to have this romantic angle to get the reader hooked from the start to get them to keep reading until the plot thickened. It was like Jace was thrown in my face as the perfect, I-got-to-have-him-now on page 1. It was expected and almost annoying as a 24 year old reader.

It is such a different feeling than in ID where the romance flows naturally with the pacing of the books. You are more focused on Tessa's personal story and then as she gets to know both Will and Jem, the reader starts to fall in love with their actual characters in the same moments that Tessa does (or at least I did). The love triangle, also, is just so heart-wrenching. You love both guys for two different reasons but everyone in their heart of hearts knows who they would choose almost instantly. You might hate Tessa's final decision, which ever man she chooses, but every reader will know why and that's what makes ID's romance better than MD.

((kinda drifted off of the subject...))

Umm...I would suggest reading Immortal Devices First, chronological order, based on the time periods in the books, is always best.

The love triangle in ID has to be one of my favorites! Cassandra Clare just wrote it so well. Most love triangles in fiction are pretty unrealistic but I feel like that of ID is completely realistic. I also like the fact that we KNOW that both men love Tessa unconditionally. In most of the love triangles, you always know one of the guys doesn't love her that much or they just aren't meant for each other...
