Movement - Thread 2

Present square: 11 (Free Read)
Rolled 6 (OMG! Two 6s in a row!!)
Move to Square 17...which means I've get to climb up the Ladder to Square 40 (Children)!!! Yay!
Book: TBD
Woohoo!!

Current Square: 20
Rolled: 1
Moved to Square: 21 (Sam's Task)
Within task requirements I rolled a 2: set in Wales
Book: The Earth Hums in B Flat

Rolled a 2
Moved to square 30 (audiobook)
Book: Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim
I've started the Rabbi's Cat for graphic-novels.
Rolled 5
Moved to square 65 (reference)
I'm debating whether to buck up and find something from this shelf to read, or roll again and move backwards. How funny that square 65 is exactly the square that was used in the example in the rules.
I even have The Mammoth Encyclopedia of Science Fiction on my bedside table, but I've never seen it as something to actually read straight through. I use it as -- surprise -- a reference book.
So I'm off to scour the shelf for something more readable. And quickly, since graphic novels don't take long.

Check out the reference shelf (links to each square's shelves are on the Gameboard thread). There are several there that wouldn't be painful to read (like Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation, Book Lust: Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason, or Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life.

Current Space: 13
Rolled: 2
New Space: 15 (Book Club)
Book: Ready Player One

Thanks, everyone, for the tips. In fact, Book Lust sounds like a good one to get for my Nook. I'll stick it out here (after all, a roll of 1 would hit a snake), and go for a combination of what sounds readable and what arrives first at the library.

I'm with you, but they say "slow and steady wins the race" ;op
Adrienne, you might be next to last but not last. I am still on my first square - 2 - and my next square is 6. :)
That's what I get for choosing a 600+ page book to read for the game! Oh, well. I am enjoying it.
BTW, when I finish The Other Boleyn Girl, my next book will be The Audacity of Hope. At least it is shorter and is still a book I have wanted to read.

Move to Square 46 (Travel)
Book: TBD
Ugh! This is my third 6 in a row but I really didn't want a six now. Hopefully there are other things beside travel books on that shelf.
ETA: I guess at least it wasn't a 5! (I would have landed on a snake there.)

I think I'll check some of my books and see if a book with action abroad shows on up on that shelf.
ETA: Found one already! OK, this one won't be too bad.

Gulliver's Travels, The Night Circus, The Alchemist, A Room with a View, Assassination Vacation, Kabul Beauty School, Doomsday Book, A Breath of Snow & Ashes, When You Are Engulfed in Flames
I'm REALLY tempted to listen to A Breath of Snow & Ashes, which is 50+ hours long on audio (this would take me the better part of a month.)
Found Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on the reference shelf, and finished it quickly.
Rolled 2.
Moved to square 67 (juvenile)
Lucky roll, because I had Prom & Prejudice sitting around waiting, our faculty book club's choice for this month. Finished it quickly last night.
Rolled 1.
Moved to square 68.
Down the snake to square 43 (childrens).
NOT such a lucky roll. But at least there will be plenty of things on that shelf I'll enjoy reading.
A lot of us seem to be hanging out in the 40's right now.

Finished my book for square 28, started my book for square 29 and rolled again.
Rolled 1
Moved to square 30 (audiobook)
Book: Rapture of the Deep: Being an Account of the Further Adventures of Jacky Faber, Soldier, Sailor, Mermaid, Spy
Wow, definitely some movements happening!
We had a beautiful weekend and I'm exhausted so... if you could check your position on the ladder to make sure I've got it right? It's pretty simple to do on a daily basis but after a few days, it's a bit confusing cuz some of you have rolled more than once!

Current Square: 40
Rolled 1 (darn it!)
Moved to Square 41 (Free Read) (Yay!)
Going to read: Shadow's Edge

I loved her books growing up but I don't remember reading this one so that's why I picked it. It also works for one of my monthly challenges this month. :)

Rolled 6
Move to square 6 (2009)
Book: The Hunger Games (Chosen from the shelf: Popular 2009 Books)
I hope I did this right.

I know in this case, THG is def. on the 2009 shelf but I'm not sure how that will work out for other shelves.

Joanne, you did it just right. You can read any book off the Popular 2009 Book list as that is the particular list for square 6. You are in luck if the book you choose meets other challenges or the monthly shelf.

Glad you're joining the game, Jo Ann.
Originally, GR only had 'shelves'. The genres have only been recently set up (maybe the past year or so? I don't quite remember exactly) but it's kind of mixed in with the shelves. So, for your next move, just go to the Gameboard thread and click on the links there to make sure you've got the right page to choose your books from :)
You can also download the worksheet complete with hyperlinks!

Kim,
If you were on square 11 and rolled a 5, shouldn't you end up on square 16?
