Brenda | 79975 comments Mod
OK I've found what it's called, plus released in 2012, and author, but there's no blurb that I can find, or cover pic. I'll keep looking:)

The King's Concubine this one is yours Michael, can you check the others that I combined it with, and see if the cover of any of those matches yours?

Bruce Hodge (brucegregorhodge) | 20 comments Hi Folks,
How do I add a new thread?
I've got two subjects I'd like to put up an opinion on and I'd really like a response.
(1) Marketting Ethics (sock puppets rule, okay?)
(2) Amazon Royalty Payments (welcome to the 19th century).
Basically the first says to hell with ethics, if you want a fair chance to sell your ebooks, you gotta do what everyone else does. Shamelessly promote (and welcome to the real world).
The second is about the ridiculous situation whereby amazon pays australian authors in foreign currency using paper cheques sent by snail mail (COSTING THE AUTHORS SUBSTANTIAL BANK FEES), and even then only when they have acrued minimum sales. Hello? What year is this? Are they telling us electronic transfers are too HARD for an international internet company the size of Amazon?
Can I post? How???
Thanks!
Bruce

Michael (knowledgelost) If you look at the top right of the discussion board there are three options; All, New and Unread. If you click new you will be able to creat a new topic.

I recommend you checking out the topics in this thread you might find the topic already there; http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...

Also if you are interested in learning more about goodreads and how to use it, check this thread out; http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

Looking forward to those threads, Bruce. As for the first, I'm going to sound very prim and moralistic here, but two wrongs don't make a right. As to the second (yes, I know I shouldn't answer it here) too right! Are we living in the dark ages, or what?

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not sure about adding books, but I have a copy of this exquisite book by the wonderful Persian poet Hafez: Hafez Hafez

I would love to add this 1905 edition to his books. Here it is, cover and all (my copy is without markings).

http://sufibooks.info/Sufism/Hafiz_Th...

Can anyone help with this? (I know I'm a librarian too, but I'm still unsure about adding books. I don't want to stuff anything up!)

Thanks, Georgina. :)

I'm having trouble with the page not wanting to load Georgina, but I'll keep at it:)

Do you have an ISBN which might help me chase it up while I'm trying to load the link?

message 122: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79975 comments Mod
Finally loaded it Georgina...I'll give you the link when I'm done:)

message 123: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a 1905 edition. Have been looking. Sorry to sound silly, but are any of the numbers on the cover on that PDF, isbns? Did they have isbns then?

message 124: by [deleted user] (new)

Great! It's a beautiful book, with exquisite poetry. :)

The picture with the bar codes in front, is that the cover of the book? If so, could you add a photo of it here, so I can put it with the book? Also how many pages has it, is it hardcover or PB, written/translated in English? I'd like to add a blurb too, but if you don't have one, I'll put what's on the profile page.

message 126: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79975 comments Mod
Don't think they had ISBN's then, but I've put the 318.... there, as it seems to be the closest to an ISBN, but there's nothing on google or world.cat.

message 127: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't do it tonight--but would it be better if I photographed my own cover, not that one with the barcodes all over it, for the GR cover? My cover is old but unmarked. Will check page numbers and can we use first lines of first poems, as blurb?

Do mind if I get back to you tomorrow with details. Sick children to look after (still :( a week of Gastro and the other now down with a cold as well!) and husband peeved that I have not done the dishes. World's worst housewife, but hey, I reckon he figured that before he married me--so he was warned :)

message 128: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79975 comments Mod
Yes a photo of your own cover would be the best. Yes, great idea for a blurb....no worries, I'll save what I have and get the rest done tomorrow...hope the sickness is GONE very soon!!! Pfft!! Dishes, schmishes...they will always be there tomorrow:(

Tell him if he's peeved, to get off his butt and do them himself;D lol

This is the link (for me tomorrow ;)) http://www.goodreads.com/review/new/1...

and if you have a publisher, that would be good too!

message 130: by [deleted user] (new)

Great! I agree about the dishes, but unfortunately, he often has (often done the dishes instead of me) and he's an ex-chef, so he cooks for me as well! He's long suffering, but he loves me none the less. *turns to husband, with what she hopes is a sweet, bewitching smile*

Thanks again, Brenda :) Must hurry off and do those dishes now...

message 131: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) That's a link for a review :P

message 132: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79975 comments Mod
Haha!! Hope he was bewitched!! And if he cooks for you...we'll let him off...lol

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

Will be reviewing! A funny story connected to the purchasing of that book, WITH an 1888 book of Tennyson's poems! For $5 together, while studying at art school in Brisbane. Was selling all my worldly possessions at a pawn shop, in order to continue school. Pawn shop owner bleed me dry. Ha! But I found the books, and she had no idea WHAT she was selling me. Sweet Justice. :)

Concerning bewitched husband. Yep! It worked. :) But it might just be resignation. And boy is he a wonderful cook! :)

Yes I see that...I just threw it in there so I could find it tomorrow when Georgina gave me the rest of the information. But I see you have completed it for me Michael, thank you:)

message 135: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I just added what I could find, it needs more work

We'll finish it with Georgina's information tomorrow...thanks again:)

message 137: by [deleted user] (new)

Just waiting for the sun to come up and then I'll photograph the cover :)

message 138: by [deleted user] (new)

O.K, here's the cover (not the best photo!) *blushes, shamefaced* Can't find my diopters, nor half my camera gear (that's what you get for letting your seven year old son have full access to it!)

http://www.goodreads.com/photo/author...

Publisher: T.N. Foulis (Edinburgh and London) Page numbers 28? (not marked, just added them up).

Blurb?

GAZEL ON HIS LOVE

"Sweet maid, if thou wouldst charm my sight,
And bid these arms thy neck infold;
That rosy cheek, that lily hand,
Would give thy poet more delight
Than all Bocara's vaunted gold,
Than all the gems of Samarcand."

I still don't know how to cut and paste images into threads. Tell me if you have any problems with the image cover.

When I can find links for the Tennyson book, I'll be back to ask if that can be added too? (Not today, trying to get my own book out :O )

Many thanks again! :) Georgina.

Great to have you with us Heav..did you manage to finish off your books?

JB Rowley (jbrowley) Heav wrote: "Hi all, I'm Heav and i became a Librarian yesterday."

Congratulations, Heav. My blog on why I envy librarians is mandatory reading for all new librarians. :-) Just kidding, but you might enjoy reading it and it won't take you long at 250 words a minute. Long live librarians, I say.

message 145: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, JB, my children and I used to do the same thing at our old, local tip, in Cobargo. The amazing thing was how many great books we found. I remember one day, wishing that I could find a copy of Silent Spring, and lo and behold, I did, buried at the bottom of the pile!

The tip became a favourite place to visit, along with local opp shops.

Great blog, by the way! :)

message 146: by JB (new)

JB Rowley (jbrowley) Hey right back to you Georgina.

How marvellous to meet a fellow tip tripper! I agree about finding great books. I was gobsmacked that people would actually throw them away. Your wish coming true just proves they were tips of treasure.

These days I find my treasure at op shops! And bless those volunteers who run them.

JB (Thanks for reading my blog.)

message 148: by Heav (new)

Heav (heav1964) | 2 comments Hi It's Heav again, how is everybody today? JB, I read your blog and it brought a tear to my eye. My childhood fantasy was also to live at the library {The only one I knew about at the time was in my father's prison}, and was bitterly upset for years that he refused to let me. The closest I ever got was when the "outside" suburb of Malabar got it's own Library after the Maroubra one was burnt to the ground. It allowed a certain child {i.e. ME!!!} to spend the whole weekend there with all the new books, before the official opening on the monday. I was in heaven, and will never forget the feeling.

That's a beautiful story Heav!

message 150: by [deleted user] (new)

It is a lovely story, Heav. This was one of my favourite books as a child: The Velvet Room. The Velvet Room by Zilpha Keatley Snyder

"As time went by the Velvet Room became more and more of a haven for her--a place to read and dream, a place to bury one's fears and doubts, a place to count on."
