I hope it wasn't out of line posting it here? Some moderators don't like people posting about other groups on GR...

No, I asked you after all;D

I've found another Tasmanian writer on GR! I read about him in our local classifieds this morning, goggled his books and found them on amazon. Then I struggled to find him on GR. This is his profile (I've just sent a friend request--he's new to GR):
http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/86...
I can't find his Author page though, nor either of his newly released books on GR.
This is his author page on amazon with his books listed:
http://www.amazon.com/Bruce-Gregor-Ho...
And his website listed on his profile page that confirms this is him:
http://www.brucegregorhodge.com/
Anyone know why I can find his books on GR? Can anyone help?

I think he's got to do his own author page Georgina, but I'll see what I can do about getting his books on here. Thanks. Great you sent him an invitation. He'll be able to participate, add his author profile etc when he accepts:)
OK I've created his two books, but they won't go onto his profile until he actually creates his author profile. Not sure where to find the link to that, but I'll check it out later.

They don't show up in the 'add book/author' section yet, but shouldn't be too long:)

Fantastic Brenda! I'll message him with the link to his page so he can claim it. :) Georgina. I'll invite him to this group too.
I've sent him the messages, he's obviously not on-line right now. The thing is I think he lives about 10 mins down the road from me, a fellow Cygnet local. I could probably just drive into town, pop into the Red Velvet Lounge Cafe and someone would point him out. But hey, I'm a recluse, so I'll just wait for him to message me back. :)
I'm sure there's no urgency, and he'll get online eventually! If not, then you might have to take drastic measures, like heading for the coffee shop;D
Scary thought :0 Doesn't happen often...
Yep, he lives down the road and I know him. He was pretty stunned too. So we're meeting at the Red Velvet Lounge to discuss all matters relating to Tassie/Aussie indie writers. I just have to psyche myself up to venture into town...
I'm also going to arrange for another potential indie writer to join us (I've been meaning to meet her for a few weeks). She writes Fantasy too. How's that--3 Cygnet Fantasy indie writers.
I'd actually heard of Bruce through the grapevine without putting face to name. The opening line of his return email read 'Piss off!!!!', which I though an appropriately Australian expression of surprise. :)

Thanks for all your help Brenda!
You're very welcome!!
Haha!! How lovely! Have a wonderful time....let us know how you go, if Bruce claims his author page etc etc! Well done...we love new Aussie authors here!

I just sent him another message to claim his page. He'd already joined GR so I I'm sure he will. An incredibly small world (well Tasmania is anyway). :) Georgina.

Yes, it's since GR went down for maintenance. Blogs aren't feeding through either (at least my new one isn't). Lots of glitches. I think the GR Feedback group is discussing them.
Thanks Georgina, yes there are LOADS of bugs in the system at the moment, and lots of topics in the GR Feedback group...they are working around the clock trying to fix them. The maintenance happened last Thursday night (US time) and there's been major (and minor) problems ever since!

Thanks Brend & Georgina :)
Hey can I ask a question about what I suspect to be dodgy dealings on GR? There's a right piscine smell to this, both the profiles and their subsequent ratings...

I may be putting my head upon the chopping block here, but what gives?

Good picking up Georgina...that's spam! It needs to be reported to GR staff, I'll look for the link now...
OK here it is...just put the same links with the message as you did above here http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...
They will pick it up and delete that lowlife!!
Thanks again Georgina!

Just posted it there, Brenda. A little bird whispered to me about it, I thought I'd yell it out. Horrible, personally I just don't get it. Makes me embarrassed to be a writer if this is the lengths some people will go to to.
Yes, I saw it there....did you see the huge lists of other spam which is deleted pretty much daily, while you were there? All this person you/your little bird found is doing is lowering the ratings of all those books by a significant amount! Shocking. But I wouldn't say it's a writer doing it, there are people out there with nothing better to do than rubbish other people, whether it be their work, or their reviews or anything else. Michael had a nasty experience with one of those types of people some months ago.
I did! Unbelievable! Also, have a look at their book lists. It's interesting to see just who they all gave their five stars to. Quite amusing in one case, seems there might have been a mix up in who they thought they were rating? Maybe two authors with the same name but vastly different books? Opps!
I've seen dodgy stuff before, then it was someone who'd obviously encouraged a flood of friends to rate the book five stars. Personally I don't really care about that. The proof is in the pudding. If a book's not good, all the twinkling stars in the world won't save it. But to purposely downrate other authors...time for me to go outside and sit with my chooks (like I do when I get discouraged by human behaviour).
It's official--we have become used-car salesmen. No ploy, no possible forms of manipulation to be overlooked in pursuit of SELLING THE BOOK.

Oh, look what I find when I look deeper. Connections, why yes, there do appear to be!

This is very unpleasant too. Feeling a little naive, depths I had not contemplated. This really looks like sock puppets or friends called into help sway a listing...sorry have to speak out, and we all know it's the Australian way not to let bastards get away with it, whoever is behind this...
Try not to worry about it now Georgina, you've done the right thing, and now we just have to wait for Rivka (probably) to get to it. As she's from the US, her sleeping/working times are different to ours. But she will fix it...she's always onto things really quickly.
:) Got to go and put the chooks in for the night. Will put it from my mind. Thanks Brenda. :) Georgina. (Wonder if I'll wake up to some random one star ratings for my books, huh! Bring them on. I fear no shiny stars!)

Thankyou :)
Too good Brenda. :) I've added it to my ever-increasing to-read list.
Thanks KL. I tried to add it to the book page, but couldn't see where to do it. Can you tell me how, so I can do it next time please?

This is what I love about goodreads, people who seriously love books.
