HeavyReader | 450 comments I read this Christian book intended for preteen and teenage girls in the 80s, but it may have been published in the 70s.

The book contained several short stories, each about a girl having some sort of moral dilemma. I remember there was a story about a girl who bought cool looking shoes that hurt her feet, after her mom specifically told her to buy comfortable shoes. Another girl had to decide if she is going to go to a come-as-you-are party.

After each story, there was a prayer pertaining to the moral dilemma in the preceding story.

If my memory is correct, the book was intended for younger girls and most of the moral dilemmas were pretty tame.

HeavyReader | 450 comments Thought I'd try sending this back to the top.

HeavyReader | 450 comments Got this response from someone on Whatsthatbook.com:

I read that book or a similar one. I believe it was called To You, Girls or For You, Girls or something similar. I think it was specifically Catholic, aimed at teenagers. The only story I remember involved a young woman whose boyfriend/fiance worked a dangerous construction job. The girl was scared he would be killed and wanted him to change jobs, but the moral of the story was that she had to have faith in God and let her man be himself. I'm sorry I can't find a link to the book.

I don't remember the particular story suggested. None of the searches I've done have yielded any helpful results. I even tried looking at all the books on The Catholic Company website (http://www.catholiccompany.com/) aimed at young girls.

Hopefully someone will eventually remember the name of this book or will have better searching skills than I have (and the inclination to use them).

D.M. Dutcher | 339 comments Needle, yours might be "To you, girls" by Kate Stanley, published in 1961 by ST Pauls editions. cover link is here at http://www.amazon.com/you-girls-Kate-...

I can't find much else at all on it, save the picture.

HeavyReader | 450 comments Thank you Dmdutcher. The cover does not match the book I read as a kid. I don't remember what the cover of the book I read looked like, but I know it wasn't that one. Possibly the cover was different on the edition I read or possibly the title suggested was not the book I am looking for.

I'm looking through a list of books published by St. Paul Editions to see if something else on the list matches.

I first read the book I'm looking for in the mid 80s. I remember the stories seemed contemporary, maybe from the 70s, not so far back as the 60s. One story I remember is about a girl getting fashionable shoes that didn't fit well and hurt her feet. I think the shoes were made of cork or were platform shoes...not shoes from the 60s.

HeavyReader | 450 comments I think I found the book I am looking for on BookMooch. I am pretty sure the book is Lord, I Have a Question: Story Devotions for Girls by Betty Westrom Skold. I just requested it through BookMooch. Hopefully I will get it soon and can say if it is the book I am thinking of. In the meantime, I will put this thread in the possibly solved folder.

I saw found a reference to the book on LibraryThing, but there are no reviews or description of it. There is an image of the front cover, which is not familiar, but I suspect that's just an updated cover on the same old book.

D.M. Dutcher | 339 comments That cover definitely screams "80s edition" to me. It makes me nostaglgic, actually: we used to have a couple tiny Christian bookstores in the area who would stock products like that well into the mid nineties. Hopefully that's the one.

HeavyReader | 450 comments I got the book from BookMooch, and it IS Lord, I Have a Question: Story Devotions for Girls by Betty Westrom. Yippee!
