What Else Are You Reading - February 2012 Edition
In addition to starting Locke Lamora I'll be trying to finish Eon: Dragoneye Reborn. Both are demanding my attention & it becomes in exercise of coin flipping to decide each day what I'll be reading. XD

I really wish he would hurry up and finish the third one.
I'm enjoying Black Hole Sun, a YA Sci Fi by David Macinnis Gill that takes place in a corrupt, well developed future Martian society.
I am currently reading Contact, The Dragon Keeper, and revisiting the Dune Saga, I am now on God Emperor of Dune
Reading The Well of Ascension, I've been reading it for over a month and was really close to Lemming it, but finally clicked into being interested a few days ago. I doubt I'll read the rest of the series, I don't enjoy needing to read 20% of the book before beginning to care about it.Also currently listening to (or reading, depending on who you ask) Hyperion, which has been awesome. I've always been deeply into the sword camp but am branching into laser territory. Also finishing listening to The Darkest Road. I've been dragging that one out because I enjoyed the series and don't want it to be over.
I'm reading some Philip K. Dick, just finished Galactic Pot-Healer, now reading The World Jones Made, and then onto The Game-Player of Titan.
I started The Magician King today. It's pretty good after a shakey start, but as with The Magicians I find myself wishing Grossman could have written the books focusing on Eliot and Janet, who I find much more interesting.
As well as the S&L pick, I started War of the Flowers, am working through Wheel of Time book 4 on audiobook and (non-SFF) Under The Hawthorn Tree which was translated into English by a friend of mine... lovely book, def not the kind of thing I normally read though :)
Just finished converting Princess Nenji into four Chapter books. The first chapter book is free, and I figure by then most people will be willing to pay 99 cents for the next installment. Also, I am writing The Princess and the Dragon, as well as a book tentatively titled A Few More Years.
David D. Carroll
I couldn't decide between Locke Lamora and Crescent Moon, so after finishing The Emperor's Knife (which I recommend) I started rereading Glen Cook's Dread Empire books, beginning with A Cruel Wind: A Chronicle of the Dread Empire, an omnibus of the original trilogy. After an almost 25 year gap, he finally published the last book in the series, so I figured it was time for a revisit.
just finished The Passage ... it was so-and-so I think.... Far from the best vampire novel I've read, and even further from the bets post-apocalyptic novel I've read....Don't really know what to start now, I'm more than open for suggestions ;)

Read 'em both? Lies is a better book, but Crescent is still pretty decent.
I'm reading The Rook now. It's good stuffs so far.

After drudging through Elantris, I turned to Robert J. Sawyer's "Hybrids", the final part of his Neanderthal Parallax. It's a quick and interesting read, so I should have that done by the end of the weekend.
Ala wrote: "Read 'em both? Lies is a better book, but Crescent is still pretty decent."Oh, I will, definitely. But the other tipping point is that I already had the Dread Empire books on my Kindle. Plus I've been waiting over 20 years to find out what happened to Bragi Ragnarsson.
I read Lies last year and thought it was great so I'm not rereading it this soon, but I'm sure I'll emd up rereading the first two books when the third drops. I just finished up Midnight Tides and am starting Monster Hunter International.
I finally obtained a used copy of the second book in Malazan, Deadhouse Gates., just started on the book.
Finished The Lies of Locke Lamora and Old Man's War this weekend. Starting Among Others and will work on The Broken Kingdoms if I finish that. Looking at reading instead of listening to Halting State since I got lost a lot while listening to it on audible. Starting Leviathan Wakes on audible.
Been busy listening to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio play. Also have a few books on the currently reading shelf: The Lies of Locke Lamora, Briar's Book, Silent in the Grave (for the Vaginal Fantasy book club) and I picked up the latest JD Robb, Celebrity in Death , today.
I am reading the "a fire upon the deep" by vinge vernor and on pg 455 part 3(74%). I bought it as an ebook for nook color.
Just finished Faith of the Fallen, which was by far the best book since the first one in the series. Now reading the The Lies of Locke Lamora as the S&L pick and Planet of the Damned for a bit of old school laser. Those should last me until the end of the month (only 3 days).
AndrewP wrote: "Just finished Faith of the Fallen, which was by far the best book since the first one in the series. Now reading the The Lies of Locke Lamora as the S&L pick and [book:P..."You going to read anymore Sword of Truth? I a lot of people think it goes way down hill after Faith of the Fallen because the next two were too preachy, but I loved them in part I totally see and agree where Goodkind was going and coming from.
Over the last few days I've been reading (by Audible) Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan trilogy. I am 30 minutes from the end of Goliath. I have really enjoyed these books (much more than I expected considering how I felt about the Uglies). I've got a bunch of other books going now.
I'm currently reading Captain's Fury, book four of Codex Alera -series. Like Jim Butcher's other books, it's fast paced, easy reading which means I'll have to devoure the entire series before moving onto other books.I'll also have War in Heaven started, but waiting. It builds up a lot slower than Veteran did, so I'm treating myself with the mentioned Codex Alera, first.

"I have all of them, most in hardback, so I will be reading the rest of them for sure. Rather than read them back to back, I like to take a few weeks between each one. Probably finish the series by the end of the year though.

It starts to slog about the third book and stays that way until the last two books. I am glad I finished them.
Started Blameless by Gail Carriger on the train ride in this morning (I'm one of those mass transit riding, apartment dwelling, gilded age elitists so loathed by Newt Gingrich).
The Great Book of AmberThis was borrowed to me from a friend so I really need to finish it because it has just been sitting on my night stand gathering dust. So I should finish it before reading anything else suggested here :(
Christine wrote: "The Great Book of AmberThis was borrowed to me from a friend so I really need to finish it because it has just been sitting on my night stand gathering dust. Although if you were to just read books 1-5 and skip 6-10, that wouldn't be the worst possible decision you could make.
OH Joseph it is :( because it is so heavy and big lol my kindle as spoiled me because it is so light and portable. So it is taking me like three times as long to read it as it would normally take because it does not fit in my purse where I can read anywhere. I am enjoying it. It has some slow parts but I kind of skim those :P I am about half way through on book seven.I am just excited to join in the discussion here and without reading what everyone else is I really can't.

And don't feel bad -- I haven't been able to read any of the monthly choices yet but that hasn't stopped me from chiming in . . .
I've finished Norwegian Wood, which was great - have to check the movie, as suggested here, thanks - and I now have The Colors of Space to read, suggested by my brother, from his sci-fi collection.André
Currently reading The Lies of Locke Lamora. I will then be finally delving into the Dark Tower and reading The Gunslinger. If I make it through those two, it will be on to The Blinding Knife.
Jason wrote: "Currently reading The Lies of Locke Lamora. I will then be finally delving into the Dark Tower and reading The Gunslinger. If I make it through those two, it will be on to The Blinding Knife."Time Warp! :)
Laura wrote: "Jason wrote: "Currently reading The Lies of Locke Lamora. I will then be finally delving into the Dark Tower and reading The Gunslinger. If I make it through those two, it will be on to The Blindin..."Very funny
Haha, geez, you are right. My apologies for the necro post. I obviously couldn't read numbers yesterday. Haha.
Just finished Cold Days by the amazing Jim Butcher it was so hard to put down, almost didn't watch my 49ers on Sunday, because I wanted to read.On the waiting list for Ever After by Kim Harrison and as with all the Hollows novels I am sure it will be outstanding.
So.....in the meantime I am reading some free Amazon picks on my Kindle. Currently The 19 Dragons by S.M. Reine. I am at about a third of the way into it, and am enjoying it.
Read posts? Ain't nobody got time for that.
I have just finished Grave Peril Jim Butcher, which was excellent. You get a feel for the rest of the series with this one, its going to be excellent.
Just finished the first book of Wool. Its just a taster but it made me want to carry on with the rest of the series, which is always good.
It seems a lot of people are reading Lies Of Locke Lamora. I was thinking of reading that, it was between that and Black Prism, really wished I had gone with Lies, didn't get along with Prism at all, Wondering whether to lem.

I'm also 3/4 done with The Golden Compass, and after a slow start I fell in love with it about halfway through. I instantly went from thinking "meh" to "holy crap, this is amazing", and that feeling's not really gone away since. I'm already committing myself to the rest of the trilogy straight after this one.

I'm curious to hear what you thought when you finish it. I loved the story and the depths it went into, but I hated the way a lot of it felt "plot-dumped" in hard to swallow chunks throughout the story.
