Thenia, thats kind of how I feel about A Discovery of Witches- It is a romance of sort, but not nearly as steamy as most of what of think of as a PNR. Then again aparently a LOT of people have listed it as a PNR- over 100, so I went with it...

A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy #1)

I seriously loved this book- Though I am not sure exactly why. It is a mix of several genres in my opinion- a romance (though tame in that regard), and a bit of a thriller, with witches, vampires and demons. I will say that I was a little pessimistic at the start, with the high level of description and wordy-ness that seemed to mire down the first 1/8th or so of the book. Diana Bishop is a scholar and the first portion of this book seems to get a little bogged down with the academia that the main character is researching. As the book progresses though, the action picks up gradually, and then gets to a point that I seriously could not put this book down. Unfortunately I am now almost regretting the read, since I CAN NOT WAIT for the next book in the series! I haven’t had this cliff-hanger feeling in a while, though to the Authors credit, it was not done in an obnoxious “…to be continued…” manner. All in all a great read, which will torment me until I read #2!

More jealous thoughts knifing through the 'net in AH's direction... But, also, OH WOW! Can't wait to go see it! Soon...I finished both of my books, and will get one reviewed here VERY SOON (ha, read that as meaning tomorrow sometime...probably late!) Translation work is steadily trickling in over my VACATION (WHAT????) so I'm balancing some smexy angels, dragons and more with sea cucumbers (AKA sea slugs...they're actually quite colorful, but revolting to consider as a culinary supplement...want to see a pic?), spring festivals and gasp taxes (must admit I love my tax accountant even more than Mr. Randomizer, or my grumpy family at the moment).
Nothing like squid sex...so no worries on that score! Sea cucumber is (potentially) the next big boom (after snail cosmetics...trust me, I haven't tried anything with snail products on my face! Didn't even know about that boom...thankfully!) Products with sea cucumber additives are reputed to be good for moisturizing and skin damage repair (has collagen and other goodies), as well as health benefits for the liver, blood cell reproduction and pain reduction...google it, LOL! Traditionally, it has been used in a postpartum massage oil or treatment for wounds. One variety is also a food-delicacy here (though not quite so colorful when it is served...also something which I always pass on due to the "yuck" factor).
Don't know, but might be willing to try the soap...especially as I'm on the other side of 40 and it's been a rather dry winter...

I wouldn't dare to put the photo up of the one they eat...While the list is small, there are some things I just can't understand WHY it's popular/considered edible in Japanese cuisine. How brave (or hungry!) that first tester must have been... Or maybe it's a whole new level of "waste not, want not"!
Some Chinese soups have sea cucumber in it, which I've had. It doesn't really have much of a taste, imo, but not as ew as some might think :)

Check out the photos (the ones in dishes, not the others!!) Spouse swears it's delicious, and a bit crunchy. Ha.I always "let" him have mine when it comes up as an appetizer.

#5 Paranormal Romance
★★★★✩ (well, 4.5 actually!) 3/6/12Ms. Singh's Psy-Changelings is one of my first paranormal-series favorites. When she started Guild Hunters, I did have an immediate, WHOA! This is gonna push back some of the stories I'm dying to hear about (ie. Hawke's...), but, I loved it! Now, I'm anxiously awaiting further installments, and love the shorts that tide us over, and let us know more about characters that are intriguing, but not the main-spotlighted couple.
Angel's Flight contains four stories, Angel's Pawn, Angel's Judgement, Angel's Wolf, and Angel's Dance. I've read (and recently~Angel's Wolf is in Angels of Darkness which I read in January...read it slower this time, LOL!) two of the four, but was REALLY looking forward to the deets on some established characters in the others. The other I've read (quite a while previously) was Angel's Pawn. Ashwini is fascinating, and I hope she and Janvier get a full-length story and HEA someday. Angel's Judgement is more of a tantalizer that leaves you looking forward to more of their dance.
The two stories I was most looking forward to are Angel's Judgment which introduces us to Sara before she becomes Guild Director, and before Deacon. The other is Angel's Dance, Jessamy's story. Jessamy is the historian/teacher who is usually in refuge, and unique in angel society. She has been one of my favorite "background" angels, and her story is beautiful and poignant. Even if I hadn't loved the others as well, this is the one that made the book truly worth purchasing for me. I'll be rereading these, and the main novels in the series while...groan...waiting ...again... for the next books! Sometimes it's evil to be caught up on a series...
Finished my "Paranormal Romance" book -
by Kat Richardson - ★★★★ (03/08/2012)In this second book of the series, like the first one, we tag along Harper's investigation for a new weird case she's working on. The plot is realistic and basically a detective story in a paranormal world.
Harper keeps busy and has accepted her new reality, without actually venturing into it very much. She keeps avoiding learning more about the Grey until absolutely necessary and as she says herself at one point, she's being a bit too stubborn for a bit too long (or something along those lines). She's being ignorant and muleheaded I would say, but it's not as if she hasn't got enough things on her plate so I do get where she's coming from.
I listened to the audiobook for this book as well as the first one, and although the narrator does a good job voicing Harper and Mara (whose accent and portrayal is probably the best in the audiobook), the rest of the characters' voices and accents (and even tones sometimes) are way off. It's as if many of them are talking in slow motion and their emotions are not voiced succesfully, if at all, most of the time. I strongly disliked her version of Carlos who sounds angry and, well, like a woman trying to talk in a deep voice and failing miserably. I'm not sure if I'll listen to the audiobooks for the rest of the series since I kept getting distracted by all of the above and missing parts of the story because of it.
Apart from that, I will definitely read the next book. Harper and her world have a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to seeing them reach them (or not).

Fair Game Finished 3/6/12 - 5 starsWow! What a ride! Patricia Briggs proves once again that she is a master story-teller. The world she creates has me actually believing that there are werewolves, witches, fae, and the like living amongst us. I love how she incorporates magic and the spirit world into her books.
The third book in her Alpha and Omega series, Fair Game was well worth the wait. In this book, Anna worries about Charles. She’s afraid that his enforcer role is causing him to burn out. Anna is no longer the meek, skittish wolf of the previous books. She has confidence and poise. When Anna approaches Bran the Marrok with her concerns, she is dismissed. Through the intercession of Asil and Adam, Bran decides to send Anna and Charles to Boston to act as consultants to an FBI task force.
The FBI task force is searching for a serial killer in Boston who has been hunting werewolves and fae. Several new characters are added to the Alpha and Omega world and I hope that they will be making appearances in later books. Leslie Fisher is the lead FBI agent and the liaison between Anna and Charles and the rest of the task force. Isaac is the Boston area Alpha. Alistair Beauclaire is a fae and the father of one of the missing. If you thought that Charles was scary, don’t mess with Beauclaire.
As a representative for all the werewolves, Anna shines. P.R. work is perfect for her as Anna does not look threatening. She is born into the role, using her calming influence, and her diplomatic skills explaining how to behave around a dominant werewolf like Charles.
Charles – Where do I start? I was kind of frustrated with Charles. I really wished he would have communicated more with Anna. Instead, he shut down and allowed Brother Wolf to take over. This is where Briggs excels in her writing: Charles, the man and the wolf are almost seamless. They are fully integrated. I also love how his Salish Indian spiritual side is incorporated into his character.
There is some sex in this book. Yay! It’s just at a weird and unexpected point in the plot. That’s all I’ll say.
The ending! The ending just blew me away! It was perfect. It was spectacular. Please don’t make us wait so long for the next book, Ms. Briggs!

Really enjoyed this book! This historical paranormal romance was so well written. The detail alone made it worth it.
Strong characters and the interesting plot had me on the edge of my seat. Great romance and relationship between the two strong and well developed main characters Miranda and Archer. These two personify how people can compliment each other resulting in strength that neither knew they possessed.
Would recommend this one for sure! My first read from this author and definitely not my last!
Tania, she has a "prequel" called Ember. It reads more like the deleted/extra scenes for Firelight. You may enjoy that one.

Shelf #6 Paranormal Mystery
★★★★✩ 3/12/12This is an anthology of 9 stories edited by P.N. Elrod.
I started listening to it on audio last summer, but still am not so keen on audio books. I couldn't finish it before it expired and flew back to the library, so I ended up purchasing it in paperback.
I quite enjoyed several of the stories and am glad to add it to my "permanent" collection. It starts with "Seeing Eye" by Patricia Briggs, very timely to get me in the mood for Fair Game which will hopefully arrive soon! It's about a member of the Emerald City Pack.
Also included are stories by Jim Butcher (the first I've read of his, but will definitely have to get around to his series), Rachel Caine (want to see more of these characters, too...wondering if they're in her latest series~have to run over and see), Karen Chance (love the war mages!) P.N. Elrod, Charlaine Harris, Faith Hunter (maybe Jane Yellowrock's first story~have a couple more in this series waiting for me, bump up in the reading order), Caitlin Kittredge and Jenna Maclaine. The last two and Elrod are also firsts for me. I enjoyed them, but have enough other series going right now that I won't be picking them up real soon.
Overall, a very tasty morsel of paranormal with a dash of mystery. Nice to read straight, or dip into when you only have a few minutes.
Finished my paranormal mystery read Night Season - 4 stars - 3/12/12This is book 4 of Eileen Wilks World of the Lupi series and every book I read makes me want more. It's one of those series that seems to get better and better and I read on. With each subsequent book, the world gets more developed and new and interesting characters are added.
Night Season focuses on Cynna Weaver and Cullen Seabourne. Cynna is a Finder and she is able to find almost anything with her talent. Cullen is an incredibly handsome werewolf/sorcerer.
In this book, they leave earth through a gnome gate and enter the world of The Edge. There, they are tasked to find a medallion which, if it gets into the wrong hands, may cause a war. Lots of intrigue, interesting culture, new characters, and magic. Can't wait to read the next book.
