Something People Have Never Really Noticed About Edward

I'm sure many stalkers would also say their actions weren't meant to creepy.
He told the truth, after MONTHS of invading her privacy supposedly to protect her. He could have, with his abilities, protected her from the sidewalk, the nearby woods ect ect. Coming into her room was a purely selfish act unnecessary for protecting her, considering his abilities.
When considering the definition of stalking below, perhaps Edward wasn't a stalker strictly speaking as Bella wanted this attention but a least at first when Bella had no knowledge of the events she could not consent and Edward had no way on knowing if these attentions were welcome or not, this is the part where he is a stalker.
Pathé and Mullen describe stalking as "a constellation of behaviours in which an individual inflicts upon another repeated unwanted intrusions and communications".[5]
Stalking can be defined as the willful and repeated following, watching and/or harassing of another person. Most of the time, the purpose of stalking is to attempt to force a relationship with someone who is unwilling or otherwise unavailable. Unlike other crimes, which usually involve one act, stalking is a series of actions that occur over a period of time. Although stalking is illegal, some of the actions that can contribute to stalking are initially legal, such as gathering information, calling someone on the phone, sending gifts, emailing or instant messaging. They become illegal when they breach the legal definition of harassment e.g. an action such as sending a text is not usually illegal, but is illegal when frequently repeated to an unwilling recipient. In fact United Kingdom law states the incident only has to happen twice when the stalker should be aware their behavior is unacceptable e.g. two phone calls to a stranger, two gifts following the victim then phoning them etc. However, the victim may feel they have been the victim of a stalking after one incident e.g. being followed home

yeah, that made it more palatable to me, for some reason- the fact that he realized he was crossing a line but couldn't help it anyway...

I remember him, at some point on that first night, thinking "Her window creaks. I'll have to bring oil next time..." Stalker thoughts! Haha.

haha I know right lol even he admits to being a peeping tom

Haha, yeah I kind of thought that too. But he did say to himself "No...there shouldn't be a next time." or something like that. So he obviously knew he shouldn't but he did anyways, lol.

At least he drew the line at watching her sleep!

thats true

He could've been an actual peeping tom/stalker and the series probably would've turned out a different way. Though I'm not positive, Bella isn't the smartest person in the world.

lol

I agree.. it does set bad examples for the more impressionable people..
I have to say that without the "stalker" qualities, the idea of the love he has for her is amazing. To me, it's like imprinting with the wolves in a way.. she is everything to him, and while he makes stupid, controlling decisions, he does have a good reason at heart.. not that that makes it ok..

P.s TEAM EDWARD! TEAM EDWARD!

Why is her sleeping fascinating to him? He's been around for a hundred years he has seen people asleep before.

It's fascinating because he can't sleep or dream, no matter how much he wants to.

If he's been around for a hundred years he has seen people asleep before its not like she does it in some magically different way, is she juggling while asleep? reciting all the decimals of pi?

If he's been around for a hundred years he has seen people asleep before its not like she doe..."
Has he really though? Before Bella, he really just kept to himself and his family...

except for that brief bit of time he went around murdering 'bad' people, or all the other schools/ universities he has attended.

But that's basically all he's done with his vampire life, right?

also, that's not the only reason he watched her- he also thought he was protecting her, he was obsessed with her, he wanted to hear what she said in her sleep, and he was trying to inure himself to her scent...

why ppl giving so imp to Edward being stalking when bella too likes it after he tells her abt night visit... n he still continues ..... and his so called stalkish behaviour save..."
So Jacob was in love with an un-produced ovum in Bella's body...thats still pretty gross.
And what does 'so imp' mean??

A lot of stalkers use the excuse of "I was protecting her" and "because I love her" as excuses for their actions.

lol, I had not! I'm not very good at checkin' it...so thanks for the heads up, I'm gonna go see! :D

Hah, I hardly check mine either. xD

I agree. Total stalker. Extremely creepy.

I think Kierstin's post makes a lot of sense. I mean, this is a book about supernatural creatures. It's not real life and it shouldn't be taken as real life. I don't think of any fictional book as a behavioral guide, and I think parents need to be careful about what they let their kids read, or at least make sure their kids have the standards for behavior that supersede any other influences kids may encounter.
I read these books as a grown woman and I loved them and Edward. I think he is a flawed character, which is fine with me. What I do like about his character is he really does love Bella and wants to do what's best for her.
Honestly, watching Bella sleep is not the creepiest thing about these books. As much as I love Edward, the whole thing about him being cold and stony, and his teeth having venom so that he has to be careful when he kisses Bella is pretty off-putting when I think too hard about it. However, I think Meyer is essentially writing her own Beauty and the Beast tale, where the Beast is both beauty and ugliness, and the Beauty has a whole lot of issues on her own. As a romantic, I like the idea that pretty screwed up people can find a true love, so that's why this story resonated with me.
As for this story being unacceptable for younger readers, eye of the beholder. There are a lot worse things for a young person to read. However, each parent needs to make that decision for themselves. I'd be comfortable if I had a younger teen who wanted to read these books, and we'd have a discussion about fantasy and reality long before she/he read them or any other fiction novel, for that matter.

Well He didnt exactly lie to make bella seem dead. He was telling the truth. Her dad was really at a funeral just not bella's. Edward just took it the wrong way and shit got mized up. Plus Why even try to get yourself killed over that? I mean edward doesnt even like Jacob and Jacob doesnt like him, so why believe him? Go over there and find out for yourself, it could be a lie (Or in jacob and edward's case a mix-up). All i gotta say is edward was being dumb for believing him. I do like edward but since Jacob is hot and TAN<3....I gotta be Team Jacob<3
He is a COMPLETE STALKER, so is Peeta which is why I don't like him either!
It's not stalkerish, it's kind of romantic, actually no, it isn't romantic at all it is kind of weird, but hey, it makes it interesting

Stephenie has been interviewed and said she didn't write the book targeting young adults (teens), she had a dream and wrote it. No targeted audience in mind. She's even admitted that her writing skills are still rough.

"Hey I'll stick my finger in a light socket and see how that works out,"
And I will admit he and bella are a cute couple but I just had to get that off my chest

Hahahah... I like the bouffant.
I don't like his 'do in the wedding, that was just "bleck" to me.

It probably takes a lot more blood then that to turn them red once they're a different color.

Bookworm you have taken the words right out of my mouth. I thought you say that he's loving and only misunderstood but I feel so much better hearing you say it aloud.

Trust me, people have noticed this.
