Eric Idle (from Monty Python) narrates "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and it's wonderful.
Jack Lemon did "Huckleberry Finn", also wonderful.
And I LOVE Tony Britton, who narrated almost all of Dick Francis' books.

Carol Bilger - The Red Tent
Simon Prebble - Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
Their narration made the stories even more wonderful and magical.

Try Lenny Henry reading Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys. As much as I like Neil Gaiman reading his own work, this is a fantastic narration.

John Slattery (Roger Sterling from Mad Men) narrated Stephen King's "Duma Key" wonderfully.
I also liked William Roberts narrating a number of Bill Bryson books.

I love Lorelei King in Charley Davidson too, I didn't listen to her in Mercy Thompson series but I will one day.
Bahni Turpin does a good job in

James Marster for the Dresden Files. (Jim Butcher)
Kristine Hvam for the Shade Series. (Jeri Smith-Ready)
Kimberly Alexis for the Anita Blake seris (Laurell Hamilton)
Phil Gigante for the Highlander & Fever series. (Karen Marie Moning)
Lorelei King for the First Grave series (Darynda Jones)
Lauren Forgang for the Elemental series (Jennifer Estep)
Those are the ones I can think of at the moment.

Good to know that the Shade series is good, I already downloaded 2 books. I added the Elemental series.
Loved Phil Gigante in Fever series.

Love the Shade series especially if you like YA PNR.

I recently had this experience with Scott Brick (Narrator)when listening to Clive Cussler's The Thief. Brick's standard delivery rose to the next level when he conveyed the death a minor supporting character. Though the character was minor, it was an crucial plot point. I felt that's Brick normally somber narration took on extra empathy in this scene and it actually made a lump form in my throat. Given that Cussler's work is action adventure oriented, I was pleasantly surprised by this emotionally charged scene.

Neil Gaiman has read some of his books, and he does a fantastic job as well

Bianca Amato is easily my favorite female narrator. I noticed her first as the voice of Charlotte Brontë in

To name a few of her books:

She also reads many of Philippa Gregory's books.

I'm currently listening to

I find that the narrator of an audio book is almost as important as the content of the book. Some narrators ruin a book for me, and conversely some narrators make a mediocre book good.

I so totally agree with you, Mike!

I read the Simon Vance narrated "Dragon Tattoo" Trilogy, which was excellent (though I sent a friend request to him through Goodreads with a note, and he hasn't responded).
And I just picked up "Duma Key" from the library to see how Mr. Slattery fares.

Lorelei King will probably always be my favorite.
I generally do not like it when the authors read their books. I do enjoy Sedaris, but Ephron (whose work I adore, RIP) not so much. I generally listen to samples and stay away.
I also need to start listening to more male narrators/performers. I was thinking I would start with Butcher's Dresden series. But then I "hear" good things about Xe Sands, too. Decision for another Audible sale!

Barbara Rosenblatt.Cassandra Campbell. How wonderfully versatile these two are!The credits to their names are many and well earned!I can't begin to mention them all, but I look for these two in particular because I like the way they pull you in with their voices.
C.J. Critt, when she did the first 7 Stephanie Plums, I was hooked. When they switched to Loreli King, I was thrown off because you sort of get used to a certain voice. I am originally from Pennsylvania, so the NJ accents that Critt used sounded more realistically NJ for me. Especially Grandma Mazur, with her gravelly old voice.
Fannie Flagg. Dare I precede that name with"good old"? When she does her books they are just plain nice. I wish she would do more of them. In fact,Fannie, read all of them for me!
Lindsay Ellison, Maine accent is very pleasant in the Home Repair is Homicide series.
You know, I think I just must enjoy being read to.

I love this series. I have not listened to Black Heart yet.
I love this series. I have not listened to Black Heart yet.
My favorite narrators are: Holter Graham in anything (I just love his voice), Johanna Parker as Sookie Stackhouse and Barbara Rosenblatt at Temperance Brennan.

I loved the book. Frank Muller did so many different accents through the presentation. I don't want to be a spoiler, but the accents were from many different places.
The book has 800 pages. 25 disks. I did not think I would make it through 25 and dreaded it but my friend Terri said it was very good. So I trudged forward. Believe me when I say that it was well worth it.

Jenna Lamia is really good on Saving CeeCee Honeycutt

Thanks for letting me know, I'll give it a go.

Wil Wheaton narrates a group of humorous sci-fi books by John Scalzi. I went to a book reading by Scalzi and I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy it because I would be expecting Wheaton. It turns out Scalzi sounds almost exactly like Wheaton, or the other way around.
That's why he chose him to narrate.
Julie Dretzin does a great job with girls and young women. She did one I had years back on cassette called The Center of Everything by Laura Moriarty, the story of a girl coming of age in some difficult situations. She could make the word "Oh" have so much meaning!

Daniel Sharman read the 3rd book in the series Clockwork Princess and also did a wonderful job. Too bad both of these readers don't have many other books (at least not on audible).

Yeah, it took a little while to get used to his voice after listening to Davina Porter, narrating Prime Suspect, but now he's excellent. Female voices are difficult for men, especially feminine, but there aren't too many Sansa sections.
A friend who's husband is a narrator, told me that there was a different reader for later Game of Thrones' books, but there was such a revolt that he had to redo them!
I don't like Jim Dale as a narrator for Harry Potter. Again, he makes Hermione too prissy. I would love to hear Stephen Frey, but I don't think you can get his version in the US.
CJ Critt is awesome for chick-lit. I also like Renee Raudman, who reads the Bailey Weggins series by Kate White.
What I don't like are overly dramatized versions, sometimes British narrators have this problem. As well as productions are too rangey (volume-wise) like too soft for certain characters and then too loud for others and I have to keep adjusting the volume.
I was so disappointed when I took out the audiobook of Where the Sidewalk Ends and Shel Silverstein (author) read. Just not what I expected and ruined the experience.
