It's better than almost anything on TV right now expect for TWD.
Hopefully The Americans will start up soon and keep me busy till April 14th.

Sort of a loose prequel of RL Stevenson's Treasure Island, set in the 'pirate republic' in Nassau, New Providence. Great setting, naval combat scenes, pistol/cutlass duels, politics, sex, strong female characters, just name it. Bonus: It has the great Ray Stevenson as Blackbeard.

I have watched the first two of The Last Kingdom though, and I'm very much liking it so far.

It's Arianne! Intriguing chapter with lots of interesting characters. So glad George picked this one after Alayne. It seems he wants to differentiate further from the TV series after they started ruining the Dornish storyline last season.

Yes, thank you for sharing!

So, I read the chapter last night and then this morning I read that Vanity Fair article. Do you think Martin releasing this chapter is really meant it as a dig at the show's Dorne mess? I lean towards not, I think it just happens to be a coincidence. That being said, the chapter is so great and beautifully written it really does reiterate what a mess Dorne has been on the screen......

He did this with Alayne (posted before Sansa's rape) and now Dorne. A sign on which plotline being adapted badly? I think this is the last sample chapter, though.

And nothing wrong with that at all.
I feel the Dornish plot - Arianne's final decision - would be one of the key moments for the final showdown between all the Targs (fake and real). I hope she can be shrewd and careful and strategic enough. Her entourage seems to be rather weird, why Elia Sand has to come, does she also have a mission? Babysitting her seems to be a waste of Arianne's time. Doran's mind is confusing sometimes.

Indeed this is a lot of worldbuilding of the Stormlands. Rainwood! Giant caves! Stone forest with faces! The influence of the Old Gods are undoubtedly apparent.
Then comes the question on how exactly Storm's End was taken. It reminds me of how Winterfell was taken, not by sheer force, but with deception and guile. Did Jon C know any secret passages (all those big Castles seemed to have one)? What happened to the Stannis loyalist defending the castle? Did they surrender? Maybe not since they have been defending the castle from the Tyrells for months. And what happened to the force Mace left behind, who supposedly still continue the siege? Did they strike a deal with the Golden Company? Some Reach houses are known for their sympathy for the Blackfyres.
I know some people prefer the show now, but hell, this chapter is sooo good. It reminds me again of how I really love the series.

Nice work Silvana. Always on top of it!
