Remy Blas (remyblas) | 203 comments Probably Victarion's fleet. Black flags, dragon banners. Sounds like Victarion showing his support to Daenerys.

message 52: by Amie (new)

Amie Pfeiffer (thedrownedgoddess) | 249 comments That was my first thought, Remy, but in the Barristan II chapter, at the end of the summary, remember, the fleet shows up and he thinks it's the Volantis fleet. Tumco says their banners show giant squids. Barristan realizes it's the Greyjoys, but he doesn't know who they fight for. When he sees the Iron men taking down the Yunkish, he thinks they have sided with him. So who is sailing dragon banners in Slaver's Bay??? Maybe we are not supposed to know...yet.

Seriously. I almost can't handle the wait. I have read all the sample chapters like 10 times already.

On a side note, I am having a really hard time believing the show will not cast Victarion. How do you pass up such a badass character????

message 55: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 248 comments I agree. I also feel like he will have a big part in the books coming up (but maybe I'm wrong). Feast for Crows was all a huge lead up to him traveling to Dany. There has GOT to be more of his (badass) character!

Every little change I am always telling my husband... "It isn't like that in the books!!" and it is driving him crazy. The Iron Islanders is a part I tried to tell him about and I swear I saw his eyes cross. Super obsessed vs. just a fan of the show ::sigh::

message 56: by Amie (new)

Amie Pfeiffer (thedrownedgoddess) | 249 comments Maureen, I am in the same boat. Just last night, while my husband and I were watching GOT, I was explaining the 3 Reeks in the books and how Ramsay pretended to be Reek and then turned Theon into Reek. I had barely gotten to the original Reek's death before his eyes glazed over. LOL, I get so frustrated!

One thing that really got me excited during Feast and Dance was the ever-growing number of Dany's potential suitors. I really thought there would be some kind of Daario-Hizdahr-Qwentyn-Aegon-Victarion-Euron face-off for her hand. Eliminating Qwentyn and Aegon were 'huh?' moments for me, and her casual wedding with Hizdahr was kind of a let down, until the fighting pit, of course. I still have hope that this desire for Dany will lead to an Iron battle between the Greyjoy brothers, and big hopes that Victarion somehow succeeds with the Hell Horn and rides a dragon, or even more badass, summons a kracken!!!! OK, now my excitement is on overload!

message 57: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 248 comments Haha! Glad I'm not the only one whose spouse is sick of their obsession!

That epic face-off would've been pretty cool. I agree the marriage was anti-climactic but it left the door open for the fighting pit drama and the battle of Mereen without Dany to keep the peace.

Only 3 more days until we get to sink our teeth into a little more GOT. My kiddo better go to bed on time on Sunday!!!!!

message 58: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 325 comments The melding of characters had almost forced me to a migraine headache. But I'm finally able to separate the show from the books, as they are now showing themselves to be definitely 2 different mediums. I love reading the new chapters, they are stellar! BUT on the other hand....
I have resigned myself to enjoying the books and the show for the what they are, entertainment, with characters I have grown to know and even love over more than the last couple of decades or so, and I would rather watch them do whatever it is the writers will have them do ( with GRRM's semi blessing) that is close to the story line, then not be able to watch the story at all!

message 59: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 58 comments Yes, I have resigned myself to the HBO show as a poor copy of the original ever since the omission of Strong Belwas.

Sionna L Maureen wrote: "Amie wrote: "Anyone read the new Alayne chapter yet?"

Well! Guess that Alayne chapter won't be on HBO.

message 61: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) George himself said, go read that chapter! He was so annoyed with people screaming at him hahaha

I did reread that chapter just to forget about the show's horrible fanfiction.

message 62: by Chris , The Kingslayer (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 903 comments I definitely need to read it now.

message 63: by Remy (new)

Remy Blas (remyblas) | 203 comments http://geektyrant.com/news/george-rr-...

There's nothing really new, but again, we get a confirmation that George is optimistic about finishing TWOW before GOT season 6.

“Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish,” the author told EW. “But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”

message 64: by Amie (new)

Amie Pfeiffer (thedrownedgoddess) | 249 comments I'm seriously needing something new. Dying here. Even just one unreleased paragraph from TWOW....ANYTHING!

message 65: by Slick (last edited Aug 10, 2015 09:59AM) (new)

Slick | 25 comments This rumor that he is finished is going around all because he went to a game and left his minions in the 'paper mines.'

I've just reread the series nearly finished ADWD, I might read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss next.....It's pretty good if you want to give it a whirl?

Ive been waiting for the next installment of this series for four years as well -.-

message 66: by Remy (new)

Remy Blas (remyblas) | 203 comments The Name of the Wind is an amazing book, but beware... the third and final book in the trilogy is in the same state as The Winds of Winter.

Hahaha.....true..If it is a first time read it's the one i recommend to all my friends :)

Amie Pfeiffer (thedrownedgoddess) | 249 comments Have y'all read Feast and Dance concurrently using a combined chapter list? There are some skips back and forth, which are listed, but I loved it.

I did that a couple of years back. I really enjoyed it.

Sounds cool. Maybe I will try in my upcoming re-read!

Maureen | 248 comments Hey, I just have to say that I have been following WIC a lot since the series ended for casting news, etc. and there are so many mean, troll-y people on that site! SO many commenters saying mean things without really thinking about it. I was expecting an experience much like Goodreads (and this group) and am sadly disappointed. Just wanted to say thanks for a positive experience and keep up the good work and discussions people! :)

This group is awesome!

But don't go to the other one here in GR, "ASOIAF Fans", it's full with whiners and trolls.

Silvana (silvaubrey) WIC has lost its charm after abandoned by the founders. Or maybe you refer to the Watchers on the Wall (ex WiC)? I still follow their news but rarely read the comments/forum part.

Maureen | 248 comments Silvana wrote: "WIC has lost its charm after abandoned by the founders. Or maybe you refer to the Watchers on the Wall (ex WiC)? I still follow their news but rarely read the comments/forum part."

No, I typically go to Winteriscoming.net. I noticed that they quote A LOT from Watchers on the Wall, so maybe I will go scope their site out to see how I like it. And I know better than to read the comments on most sites! Occasionally, there are some good, original insights, but mostly trolls!

message 76: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) I think WoTW has better sources. Especially in the casting and location news. Last few days were all about the Mercy scene.

message 77: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 325 comments I've been getting dailies from WOW and it's been very interesting. Just enough to keep me going. Some of the snippits they show have no audio since the sneaky filming is done so far away nothing can be heard. They can only guess what the scenes are about, anyway.
Annnnnd....What will happen when filming ends? What will they have to report about then? No one is going to let anyone into the editing room, are they? Seriously?

message 78: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 325 comments I meant WOtW sorry...

message 79: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 325 comments Oh btw... Where can I find those chapters... I've been looking but I can't find them...AGAIN!

message 80: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) Check this thread, it has lots of links to individual chapter or compilation of chapters.

message 81: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 325 comments Some of these chapters seem so totally outdated, maybe it's because of the show and I'm getting everything mixed up.

message 82: by Remy (new)

Remy Blas (remyblas) | 203 comments George is making an appearance in Z Nation as a zombie version of himself.

Slick | 25 comments Great so i assume he's finished writing WOW then? ")

message 85: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) Omg thanks for sharing Remy. Now surely people are going to be convinced he's gonna finish the books no matter what haha

message 86: by Slick (new)

Slick | 25 comments It's not out this year is it.....:'(

message 87: by Remy (new)

Remy Blas (remyblas) | 203 comments Silvana wrote: "Omg thanks for sharing Remy. Now surely people are going to be convinced he's gonna finish the books no matter what haha"

I kinda like that he's joking about it. I want the book to come out as soon as possible, of course, but I wouldn't want him to rush it and ruin it.

Still, it's so hard to wait... but it's not like we could do much else.

Also, I like Z Nation, so it will be really cool to see him there in the next season.

message 88: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) Yes it is better that he could joke about it, and not completely allergic towards the subject.

message 89: by Ben (new)

Ben Knight | 316 comments Ach, c'mon the book's done and dusted, the publishers are just sitting waiting for the Christmas market...

message 90: by Ben (new)

Ben Knight | 316 comments (although quite how that will boost the inevitably epic sales figures I'm not sure... :-/ )

message 91: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 325 comments Ben you are probably correct... It's just a marketing ploy." Dammit Janet!"

message 92: by Amie (new)

Amie Pfeiffer (thedrownedgoddess) | 249 comments Hello, friends. Long time, no hear. I'm just commenting to express my sadness and frustration regarding the recent GRRM statements about the TWOW release date, or lack thereof. Not surprised, just disappointed. How do y'all feel? How much of book 6 will be spoiled by the show? I have a feeling a bulk of the new season will actually cover some book 4 material. Possibly Brienne's story will play out like it did in Feast, and she will run into Jaime at the end of the season? Lots of possibilities. The lack of new book material is killing me.

message 93: by Slick (new)

Slick | 25 comments Im better. Still gutted by the news but finally knowing is such a relief i don't mind waiting as much as not knowing if you know what i mean.

Wont ruin it in the slightest. I view them as different tellings of the same story.

message 94: by Chris , The Kingslayer (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 903 comments I really don't understand all the butthurt that's been blasting across the internet since Martin's announcement. I mean, was anyone even surprised? Were any of those people that had been readers since before GoT started airing?

I'm actually taking it as good news. Really. I knew that he wasn't going to release that book before Season 6. That much was obvious a year ago.

And hey, he's talking about missing a deadline by months. This is GRRM, folks. It he's talking months rather than years, that's a step in the right direction.

At least he's being honest and forthcoming about it, rather than shrugging off fans and flipping us the bird. It's only been 4 1/2 years since Dance. Anything in the next 12 months would be like super speedy for GRRM.

message 95: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) I said this in the other group, but somehow I am actually hopeful that it could be released by the end of this year. And we're going to be spoiled by the TV show anyway, whether we watch it or not, unless one doesn't have any social media or something.

message 96: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 248 comments I'm bummed, but only because it means I have to wait 4 more months for new ASOIAF. Maybe because I'm a (relatively speaking) newbie I had more hope the book would be out soon because I haven't experience GRRM missing a deadline yet. IM JUST SO READY FOR ANYTHING. Bring on April!! And whenever the book comes out I will eat it up too!!

message 97: by Chris , The Kingslayer (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 903 comments To keep a perspective, consider that Martin has released a total of 2 new books in this century.

message 98: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 325 comments Way to make us all depressed Chris....thanks so much!
But keep in mind we have 90 years left in this century!!!!

message 99: by Eyehavenofilter (new)

Eyehavenofilter | 325 comments Or less

message 100: by Chris , The Kingslayer (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 903 comments OK, another way to think of it is that he released one book during the George W. Bush administration, and one book during the Obama administration.

And both of those men had 8 year Presidencies.
