Mel (soireb) | 224 comments Hi,

First of all i'd like to introduce myself, my name is Melisa (Mel) and i was approved as a librarian this weekend. I couldn't find an "Hello" topic so i'm going to doable duty on this one. I've been member for little over a year now and I'm happy to be able to help in anything I can ^.^ So again, Hello and thanks for the approval.

Now, my doubt:

I just rescued the book La llamarada; and found two more additional editions:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24...
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

The first one has only the pub year (which is the same as the edition i just fixed) and the author's name lacks his initial. The second one is a theatrical adaptation of the novel (with different ISBN, so i assume is a different book).

My question is, what can I do with these books?

Ohh...

The book I have was a high school copy which unfortunately was manhandle by some student(s) so the best scan that i get is the one below; do i upload it or leave the one it has? The current cover comes from amazon.com

Photobucket

Thank you

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Hi Mel, welcome to librarian world

The first book needed deleting or merging as we call it, it had no isbn or different data to the other editions.
Since it had more than 5 reviews I have done it.

Different editions can have different covers if you know the cover you have for the one without matches the isbn then upload otherwise it is fine to leave no cover.

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 363 comments To clarify from the perspective of an avid GR user who is also a newish GR librarian: If the cover is accurate to the edition (usually confirmable by same ISBN) do please upload it. Stains, tears, blurriness, are ok and better than nothing. Just don't use a cover from a different edition.

Marilyn Holdsworth (marilynholdsworth) | 17 comments Hi, I am Marilyn. Something has happened to my book Pegasus, which was on my read shelf and has now disappeared. I even added it again to no effect. Also, I need help getting my hardcover book and my ebook uploaded. Any help would be appreciated.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments For the books that need adding, can you provide ISBN / Title details of the book or a link to a web page (not amazon) with this data please

message 7: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn Holdsworth (marilynholdsworth) | 17 comments The link for the ebook is..http://bookstore.authorhouse.com/Prod...

The hardcover has the same description but ISBN is.. 9781456701826
They are just other editions of Pegasus.

Thanks

message 8: by Paula (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Both the hardcover and ebook have been on GR since August.

Is the cover the same for all editions?

message 9: by Paula (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments In addition, I can see the book Pegasus on your Read shelf - do you have the number of books filter set to 100 or 20

http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

Last book on the list

Marilyn Holdsworth (marilynholdsworth) | 17 comments Thanks Paula. Now it's number 1, where I want it.
Yes the cover is the same for all editions. I was not aware the other 2 editions were added, because no cover was shown. Can you add them?

Marilyn Holdsworth (marilynholdsworth) | 17 comments Paula, I'm ok now. Margo Parker fixed. Thanks

I see someone using a profile with my name authorsuzanbattah battah but this is not me? What do I do? I'm concerned as they are using my web address etc. Have I been hacked?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Can you post a link please

Unlikely you have been hacked, bad data entry is more likely

They have not in any way hacked you. But misleading profiles like that are generally against GR guidelines. I'll pass it along to the members of our staff who generally deal with issues like that.

Thank you Paula and Rivka. I will send the link http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/75...

This is definitely not me and I was a bit scared my profile had somehow been hacked.

Also there is another profile that I found a bit questionable, they could be legitimate but http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/74...
This person has rated my novel BaSatai: Outside In before it's actual release date. I've been sending out ARC's but have a list of the people these are going to and this person is not on this list.

That is why I got a bit worried. And something keeps flashing on my page saying I'm a 100,000 visitor or such?? I hope my profile is okay and that I'm not going to lose anything.

Very much appreciate your help.

I already found the profile, thank you.

Your profile is fine, and no one has accessed anything they should not have. What happened is someone created a misleading profile with your name on it. Which I agree is annoying and will be dealt with. But it is not a security issue.

Okay that's a relief

Joe (joereaves) | 28 comments The Novelisation of the film of The Borrowers is on my rescue list - http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/46...

And one of the fields I need to put in is the primary author. I went to isbndb and looked it up and the entry ( http://isbndb.com/d/book/the_borrower... ) says this -

a novelization by Sherwood Smith; based on the screenplay by Gavin Scott and John Kamps; based on the novels by Mary Norton; retold by Karen Holmes

Who the heck is the primary author? Is it Mary Norton, who wrote the original book, or Sherwood Smith who did the novelization of the film? I assume it wouldn't be the screenplay writers as most film novelisations are listed as being written by who ever turned them into novels, but since this is the book of a film of a book I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards Smith, but I don't want to do anything til I'm sure.

And then when it's fixed I need to change what's on my shelf anyway since I have the original book and calibre must have picked the wrong edition when I imported it from there. At least that I can do myself!

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments I would go with Karen Holmes

That is how Worldcat has the book cataloged

You can add Mary Norton and Sherwood Smith in 2nd/3rd author positions
