SOLVED. mythological creatures on an island and three old sister's who take care of them [s]

I read this book when I was around 4th grade and the story goes that the 3 sisters who take care of these creatures on an island are looking for children who can help them because they are getting old. So they go to the city and proceed to kidnap three children, two of them are alright but one is completely spoiled and complains a lot. Anyways, one scene in the book is where the two kids are given a reward for their hard work- which they think might be a day off or something but turns out to be more work. The reward involves working/ taking care of mermaids. The ending had to do with, um, krakens I think and the spoiled kid going off to get glasses with his father because they're convinced their eyesight is all wrong.

The book had illustrations kind of like Quentin Blake's.
