Hi all, I second Mark in feeling weird talking about myself, but I'll give it a try. I'm from Germany but most of my reading is done in English. Currently I'm a law student, which takes up a lot of my time and doesn't leave that much for reading (I use audiobook for a bit of compensation).

My favorite authors include Tamora Pierce and Kristin Cashore. I've also read a lot by Marion Zimmer Bradley and I started the audiobooks of George R.R. Martin, but dropped them some time ago. I'm planning however to get into them again, just don't know when I have the time for such complex works.

George RR Martin ... I found myself on both sides of the coin with him. I really liked his first book. I thought his second was good. After that, he went alongside Robert Jordon -- which means I don't read him anymore. When you spend one, very large book, just about secondary characters and it doesn't really drive the story forward all that much ... well, you lose me as a reader. I just stopped caring what happened to anyone as I was so bogged down in non-essential reading.

Hi everyone, I'm Kate, I'm from Wales in the U.K and I'm a big fan of Fantasy. :)

I adore the Assassin's series of books by Robin Hobb and also her Tawny man series. I was heartbroken to finish them as I fell completely in love with Fitz and the Fool and of course, Nighteyes.

I'm also a fan of the Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey, though I have yet to finish them all ( there's SO many of them! )

That might exactly be the reason why I didn't pursue reading his books the first time (actually I listened to the audiobooks), it seemed quite tedious to hear about small characters and not getting to the point with the main characters.

I've not read anything by GRRM and I've been meaning to and looking forward to it from what I've heard.

I haven't read anything that is very similar to Robin Hobb but I've been having a look and Joanne Bertin's The Last Dragonlord looks quite promising.

I could happily read Kushiel's Dart over and over, just need to get hold of the others to read.

I know what you mean about getting bogged down with secondary characters, but to me is a love hate relationship. While the most of the time it makes the story feel fluffed up, in the end I feel that it gives the story and thus the authors world more definition, depth, and reality.

I was a terrible reader all the way up through intermediate school till I got my hands on the C.S. Lewis' work since then I've been into Fantasy. Since then I have branched out into Science Fiction, and I also appreciate a good classic every once in a while. I'm a big fan of high fantasy but have come to like dark fantasy lately.

My name is Tina. I am from WV.
I was given my first fantasy novel at the age of 13. A friend gave me Piers Anthony's "A Spell for Chameleon". That was all it took! I consumed Anthony's novels faster than he wrote them after that. Piers Anthony's books are still on my Favorites list. I also enjoy Patricia C. Wrede, Margaret Weis, Tolkien and Maria V. Snyder to name a few.
I find new authors faster than I can read the books they've written. So my to-be-read list is very, very long indeed!
I look forward to finding new reading material and I am sure I'll enjoy the challenge of finding the time to read all the great suggestions! I love looking at other's bookshelves and have found many a great book that way! Ok, they used to be real bookshelves and now the are all virtual, but I enjoy it no less!
