Introductions - tell us a little about yourself
Welcome Sierra, great to hear that your school has a Fantasy Writers Club and that your the President. It's a fantastic idea to have school writing groups for the writers of the future.
Hi Donna, series can become a addiction. Terry Brooks has a long series so expect you will be reading them for awhile. Great to have you with us.

Welcome to Donna, Sierra, Amelia, John, Josh, Maria and Jim!
Wow. Great to know there are so many fantasy readers out there. Before GR I was starting to think we were a dying breed.

I'm Wendy Gillissen, I live in the Netherlands and fantasy has been my favourite genre since I first read Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit at age 15. I thought the book was far, far superior to the movie by the way... though I really enjoyed the scene with King Theoden rallying the troops. Brought tears to my eyes;)
I don't read much new fantasy, these days, especially since I began writing my own;)
My debut novel, Curse of the Tahiéra was released in May this year.
Some of my favorite authors, series and books:
Tolkien of course,
the early Tanith Lee (The Flat Earth series were among the finest fiction I've ever read),
Patricia Mckillip,
Robin Hobb's Farseer series,
Jack Vance,
Pat O'Sea's The Hounds of the Morrigan,
Marion Bradley's Mists of Avalon,
Ursula leGuin's Earthsea,
Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn,
there must be more but I'm terrible with lists!
I'm the woman standing in the library in a daze wondering what it was she came for.
I hope you have fun reading The Hobbit! It has been years since I read it but I enjoyed immensely.
Wendy
Great to have you with us Wendy. I am glad you posted to the 'Introductions' and 'Group Authors' section. It is always a pleasure to see new Authors joining us. Since you have read the Hobbit, i do hope you participate in the book discussion of the Hobbit this coming month.
Best regards, your friend

Thanks JJ, I will!
I'll dig deep in my memory or see if I can re-read The Hobbit really fast this weekend;-)

Hello! My name is Jules, and I come from Romania. My favourite Fantasy authors for the time being are J.R.R. Tolkien, G.R.R. Martin, Robert Jordan, P. Pullman, Jacqueline Carey, and M.Z. Bradley. I also enjoy Raymond E. Feist's works.

Thanks John! Looking forward to joining in on the 'Hobbit' discussion!

I'm Venkat. I am a software engineer in Chennai, India. I love reading books and better if they are fantasy books. I love fantasy more than Sci-fi. My faviourite books are The Song of Ice and Fire Series, Bartimaeus Trilogy and Lord of the Rings. I hope to make a lot of friends here who share my same passion towards the fantasy books.

I'm Josh and I hail from southern Michigan. I like various fantasy and sci fi, all ways for my brain to escape to an alternate reality. Was searching for a group of people who like to re..."
The Legend of Huma is my favourite Dragonlance novel and I love the Belgariad series, so I'll have to check out the Study series since there seems to be a really good chance I'll like it as well.
I'm also new to this group and am excited about all the to-read ideas I'm getting already. I am a re-reader since I have a terrible memory, so they're like new if I wait 5 years or so, but it doesn't look like I'll have as much time to continue doing so anymore :)
Some other favourite books of mine are:
Anthony's early Xanth novels,
Pratchett's Disc World series,
Feist's Riftwar Saga and
Feist and Wurts's Empire Trilogy.
I'm currently reading Warbreaker in preparation for my first ever book club discussion.
Welcome Venkat and Sara. I hope you both make many new friends here in our group and that you enjoy the book discussions. It is always pleasing to hear of new members so keen to participate.

I've heard that prolonged exposure to Neil Gaiman works can lead to dementia......
But seriously,
Welcome, Sara and Venkat!

Hi, everyone. My name's Ardani from Indonesia. I like to read ever since I was a little kid and when I grow up, my collection of books got thicker.
When in junior high I read R.L Stine's Goosebumps and Conan Doyle's Sherlock Homes. I especially like the Sherlock Holmes and been reading almost all of his books.
After a while I started to see a fantasy book in the bookstore and suddenly I began to like it! My favourite books right now are Harry Potter series and Bartimaeus Trilogy series. They're so cool and funny!
Right now, I'm reading Geraldine McCaughren's One thousand and one arabian nights. It's a great story for me.
And, right now I'm writing a fantasy story set in a medieval time. Still in the editing process right now, but I hope to finish it soon.
Good to meet you all!

Hi :D

I burn through books really fast, so I'm actually on the look out for a new read, something with a feel like a Raymond Feist book, any suggestions would be great.
Nice to meet you all!!

I still haven't read Feist, (although I do have a good number of the books in his series) but Robin Hobb is a must for any fantasy fan, I'd recommend her series starting with Assassin's Apprentice.

We have several Goodread Authors including:
Bryce Anderson - Body of Knowledge which was republished as Finding Reason
Todd Fonseca - The Time Cavern
Leslie Ann Moore - Griffin's Daughter | Griffin's Shadow Book Two The Griffin's Daughter Trilogy | Griffin's Destiny (coming March 2010)

Ann McCaffrey
Marion Zimmer Bradley
Clen Cook
J. R. R. Tolkien

...ok, there are simply too many to list. Suffice to say that these people have enriched my life for decades. My biggest problem these days is choosing between a new found treasure, or one already worn from reading. There are bigger tragedies.
Currently enjoying Martin's A clash of Kings - absolutely brilliant!

Can't wait to start reading the message boards!
Betsy

I became my own bookstore in order to sell my own books, which the big chains don't carry. I sell my books and almost everything my publisher produces at local craft fairs, lit fests, and scifi conventions. It's not a living but it gets my books out there, which is the important thing.

Glad to be here and glad I not only found this website but this group. My name is Julie from Kansas City. I've been reading since I can remember, I even had to give up ready during my semesters at college so that I would read "their" books instead of the ones that I get into. Sci Fi/Fantasy. All though H.S. I read through EVERY class, including choir, and at that time I couldn't get enough of the Dragonlance chronicles, and the Books of Shannara. I friend of mine at the time gave me the first book in the Wheel of Time as well. But when I really look back I think that my first exposures to the genre were the Chronicles of Narnia. At the time, they were so different. Now, I'm all over the place, I just love a good story, my Kindle goes EVERYWHERE with me. I would have to say my favorites are GRRM, Robin Hobb, Marion Zimmer Bradley and I just recently started reading Brandon Sanderson and Diana Gabaldon. I have to say that Ms. Gabaldon's books had my husband grumbling that he never gets to "talk" with me and he couldn't wait until I was done.
I'm looking forward to the recommendations on this board, as well as the discussions and author interviews.
Stay warm!
Julie

I just found the site this weekend via Brandon Sanderson's blog, and am glad I did. I have long been looking for a place to be able to discuss fantasy novels, and discover new ones. I am pretty much the only person I know personally that enjoys this kind of thing. Anyway, I started reading fantasy with Tolkien in Jr. High English (just like a lot of others i'm sure). I went from there to Terry Brooks, and have been hooked ever since. Below are some of my favorites:
Brandon Sanderson
Jim Butcher
GRRM
Roger Zelazny
I'll just stop there, because I could go on forever.
Cheers,
Nick

Welcome to the group Caity, Julie, Nick and Kristen.
May your 'to read list' runneth over with all the recommendations and monthly readings you will discover in this group. Make sure you join in the monthly readings as we try and get the authors to discuss their books with us, so that is always a worthwhile experience.

My name is Jamie. I really started reading fantasy (not counting reading Harry Potter to my kids) when I picked up "Wizard's First Rule" because it looked fat enough to last an entire airplane ride. I've read a lot of adolescent fantasy because of my kids but I've only made it through the Sword of Truth Series..The WOT series and Brandon Sanderson's books. I'm looking forward to being a part of the book discussions and finding new books to read.

Nick, do go on forever, it helps us see what you may have missed. People here love to make your TBR stack into a house hazard.
Welcome to so many others, and Jamie too. More the merrier.

Ha, noted. I spent some time updating my "shelves" this weekend with everything from my old spreadsheet based read/to-read lists. I've got to say, this is much more convenient. If you have any suggestions based on my shelves I would love to hear them.
