I've never heard of Louise Penny, isn't that terrible. And I've always wanted to try fried green tomatoes. I love cooked tomatoes and I love anything fried. Also my family is from mostly Tennessee, Oklahoma and Louisiana so I should have a propensity for southern food right?

Fried green tomatoes are easy to make but the tomatoes can be a bit hard to find in the grocery at this time of year. If you try them, mix an egg with milk, mix cornmeal a bit of flour, salt and pepper to taste. Dredge in the liquid then in the dry mix and fry in corn oil until golden brown on each side.

Oh, I highly recommend it!! I LOVE this book. The reason it is taking me so long is all the other books I want to read too (kind of a maniac about reading). But, if you can get through Moby Dick as well as you are, this will be a breeze!
Since I hated Moby Dick, I wish you both well! If you feel you are losing your sanity, read something else.

I seriously can see why it is not liked by some, and at some points I thought "why am I torturing myself". But, as I kept reading, there were so many gems I found deep within the verbiage that made me glad I didn't give up on it. I've learned so much from this book, it is unbelievable. You are right, when my sanity gets off kilter, I run to another book.
That's encouraging, Martha. I've been meaning to read Moby Dick for years, but I hear such negative things about the book that I keep pushing it down my TBR list.

And, I have been reading it for quite a while now, but I am not worried about it. I read it when I am in the mood, put it down for a while and pick it up later and never miss a beat. That's the best part about it.

Oh, no, we've got the same thing. Dishes aren't picked up and the constant nagging, "pick up your dishes, pick up your clothes", and the FAMOUS, "I'll do it in a minute", and it never gets done! Agghh, such is life! Then, me being the clean freak that I am, can't stand it anymore & do it myself. And, everyone tells me over & over, "You are not teaching your kids correctly if you continue to pick up their messes". I give up, they are too old now, I've screwed up as a Mom! But, I love them to pieces!

1. if I went to bed early the night before, my mom shaking me and my dog licking my face are enough
2. if I went to bed late the night before, I probably need a cappuccino to keep my eyes open at school
3. if I'm in holiday and it's summer than I probably wake up after my mom goes to work so I stay with my dog on the balcony reading a chapter or two of a book while I drink a cappuccino (just for the feeling) and eat biscuits. If it is winter I stay in the house, under the blanket, reading or watching TV, again: drinking cappuccino and eating biscuits..:)

I have never intentionally burned honey. Does it make it hard little a peanut brittle? If it does, do you warm it in a pan? I love brittles and caramels so if it's like those I'll have to give it a try (on an old pan).

Veonika, I've said f*ck about 5 times today - mostly at my dog who peed right in front of me on the dining room rug. Yesterday he a 6 inch round, 6 inch high diarrhea poop - so he's in big trouble! He came in from outside, waited about 10 minutes and then peed. Why he didn't do this while he was outside I'll never know. My New Year's resolution is usually to cut down on swearing but I'm 51 and it still hasn't clicked. I think I'll do the opposite and make a resolution to swear more and then see what happens. I'm contrary enough that it might work.
