Imoteps, are you still looking for this book?

Mir | 805 comments The hero is female? Otherwise it could be Midnight Riot or A Madness of Angels.

Vanished by Kat Richardson? It's part of the Greywalker series.

Is the story set in contemporary times?
Does she hunt or help ghosts for a living?
What else do you remember about her background or family?

Imoteps | 13 comments It was the first book. Place was London. There was guns s6 i think so urban fantasy.

Hero was a police officer or dedective of some kind. She needed a permit to hunt a ghost from a ghost judge.

And there was some kind of time travel at the end. This is all i remember.

Still looking?

Summer | 276 comments You may be remembering Leslie May as the protagonist of Rivers of London/Midnight Riot. She is Peter Grant's partner, and she winds up learning magic too.
The ghost judge, time travel ending, London setting, and urban fantasy setting all do match, and are pretty rare, so it may be worth rereading the judge scene, at least.

Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovitch for Summer's suggestion.
