Yes, I know its early, but I want to start giving people more time to get the books.

You may nominate any book that is (a) a fairy tale/folklore retelling (b) criticism or history of fairy tales or (c) influenced by or modern fairy tale. You may put forward more than one book. We chose one YA book and one adult by group vote. I've moved the fairy tale collections to the Classic group read, so you can nominate in that thread.

CrowFox Mischief (crowfox) I haven't read this book (heard good things about it though), and I don't know if it has been read by this group yet...but I nominate Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale. Book of a Thousand Days

Sue | 39 comments Upon further reflection... I'd also like to see The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1) by Shannon Hale by Shannon Hale in the poll again - because it came so close to winning last time, and because I'd borrowed the book from my niece in anticipation that it might win.

That's it from me for this time, I promise. Chris, please let me know if I've nominated too many, and I'll withdraw one of the others - Thx.

You haven't nominated too many Sue.

I'll nominate Hood again as well as The Stepsister Scheme and Weight: The Myth of Atlas and Heracles

Ooh. I've heard good things about Hood, but I've never read it. I would like to add The Black Swan by Mercedes Lackey.

Candace Pettit | 28 comments Ah, The Stepsister Scheme is a great book. I love that series.

Love The Black Swan. That was the first retelling I ever read that Lackey did. I'll throw Firebird out there, too, as it's a tale that isn't often heard, but one of my favorites.

And continuing with the Russian tales theme, there's a bit of Romanov charm and a dash of a rather familiar old crone in Dreaming Anastasia that make for an intriguing tale.

Jane | 1 comments I just finished rereading the Perilous Gard after many years and loved it even more as an adult. Would love to find other fans to discuss this amazing book!

Melissa I'm new so forgive me if I nominate books that have already been read in the past.

I'm have plans to read Breadcrumbs soon.

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I've read this a bunch of times but I'd be willing to read it again. It's epic. Beauty By Sherri S. Tepper.
