I was told about GR by some friends on FB. So I came to have a look and stayed.I've been introduced to some brilliant books and authors. I've even had a few good reviews of my own work. It's a great site I love it.

I think I stumbled across it as an app on my phone, then realised it was a fully-fledged website! I come on here most days now and, like most people, have discovered new books through GR that I might not otherwise have read. I also feel that the reviews seem more honest and thorough here than on other sites, and this has been invaluable when I'm deciding on what to buy/read next.
I listened to the Sword & laser podcast, and they were always talking about Goodreads (they have a group here), so I joined, originally for that group. Then I discovered this group and others, then I started writing my own stuff...
I too joined to promote my book (Lesbian Crushes and Bulimia: A Diary on How I Acquired My Eating Disorder), but was really drawn in by the friendliness of the site, the attractive visuals, and the fun of organising my 'read' and 'to-read' shelves.
I joined orginally to have an online catalogue of my books. I got sick and tired of duplicating stuff. Unfortunately I got very bored, very quickly with listing:-)I then discovered the recommendation section and spent a fortune as a result, BUT, I didn't have any duplicates.
Since then, I've been lucky enough to have had a book or two published and I get a real kick out of seeing people listing them.
Having said that, I am still adding the books I read, can't be a writer without being a reader imo.

Hold me up, I'm going to faint.
Poor, poor you, I feel your pain.
I joined about an hour ago, stumbled upon it quite by accident when trying to find something new to read (just finished reading Cloud Atlas)decided to make a start on Neil Gaiman's Sandman books.

I love it! The challenges, the reviews and the recommendations all mean I read more than ever have. I'm so pleased I found the UK book group, best one on here I think!
Thanks Vicky, my husband bought me a Kindle about a year ago and I have to say I do love it as I spend an awful lot of time travelling on the tube laden down with a laptop and lots of paperwork, so the joy of not having to lug around a massive tome (oh yes I did do that with George R. R. Martins last Hardback!) is quite liberating - sadly I don't spend as much time in book shops as I'd like anymore. This makes the site so good to be a part of as if there is a book I'd like to download and read I can get a real sense of genuine readers opinions before I take the plunge!
I stumbled across GR last year, can't remember how but I'm really glad I did. It's given me the chance to join a book club without having to commit to regular meetings (I'm a bit bad at overfilling my time!!), list my books, find a multitude of new ones to read and stretch myself with new challenges.
i found goodreads by mistake but joined for good recommendations, however i seem to spend most time trying to find books i've already read as i have a dreadful memory
I joined as i randomly found it via a link of books made into films, and figured it was a good way to track what I am reading and find new books.
I found it by searching for books everyone should read and on the gr list there was a button 'want to read' sk joined to save the books I want to read so I decided to joim. After expanding my shelves I thought a group would be nice for challenges and recommendations :) loving my time here so far gr is definitelh here to stay :)
always looking for a good source of "what's out there" book wise, especially in the genre I like. Then, after my first novel, saw give-aways. That has been fun to win books as well as send my novels onto readers. All in all, enjoy GR for many reasons. The Skye in June
Basically, because I like reading books, knew that a Facebook friend used Goodreads and liked the whole community aspect of GR. :-)
I just wanted somewhere to track what I am reading and what I have on my bookshelves. I started doing this at home but it was too much work - here it is all done for me (once I have found the book). I enjoy the interaction too.
I joined firstly to promote my book, Angel War, which was published on Tuesday, 23rd, April, 2013, to let readers know that it is now available. I feel very glad now to be a Goodreads Author, with my own page for my book and to know that more than one hundred people have requested the four copies of it I have offered as a give away until Saturday, May, 25th, 2013. I have also enjoyed listing the books I have read, doing some of the quizzes and reading the words of people who love books, both the reading and the writing of them. " The fire kindled and I spoke." Such are the words carved on the statue of poetic inspiration in the Anglican Cathedral, Liverpool, my home town.
I joined after self-publishing my first book The Spirit of A Witch on 22nd May 2013, and after a friend at work told me about Goodreads. I'm so glad he did!I really do like it here (already set up my Author's page Sarah Jane Avory) although I'm still having a hard time rearing myself away from my writing so I can get more involved with discussions here.
Well yesterday I published my 2nd book, Bond Of Terror, so now I've got more spare time. I'm planning on getting to know more people here.
Much like other self publish authors, I joined to learn about what readers thought and as a way of getting my book out there. I try and take an active part in several discussion groups and not just ones promoting books but the reader discussions - I am a reader first!I have learned a lot from the author groups but more importantly from the reader groups about what readers want and therefore where I might be going wrong. I have found it difficult to write quite as much as I did before I joined, but maybe I am being more careful- or just lazy!
I found Goodreads through blogs and thought I'd give it a try to expand my reading range. It is difficult to get all the latest books in an audio or large print format.
I wasn't quite sure why I joined at first but it was the opportunity to compile a list of 'books I've read' that attracted me. While adding to that list I've begun to realise that I'm partly mourning / missing / celebrating all the books I used to have physical copies of that I've replaced with kindles/computers/ internet.
