Wasn't sure what to call this - it's really the same as Lorraine's challenge. I started to type this on her thread but decided to make my own so that I can tick things off as I read them.

I've been reading through the self challenges and getting some ideas. I've already read lots of indie authors but I also have a lot more stored on my kindle waiting for me attention. It took AGES to make this list - I had no idea that there were so many by "our" authors on my kindle!! I'm sure to have forgotten some as well.

I keep remembering more books to add - including yours!

:0)

message 3: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Awesome Karen! I was going to list some up that I definitely want to read this year so I don't forget, I hope you don't mind if I copy you? Xx

message 4: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Woop! TBR mountain ;) good luck!!!

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Of course Lorraine, I pinched your idea in the first place! :0)

Mountain is the right word Louise! These are just books by "our" authors - I have nearly 3000 kindle books now, I will NEVER read them all!! At least this way, I give priority to authors that we've come to know through this forum.

:0)

message 6: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments There I was feeling bad about all the freebies I've downloaded but might never read as they are "just in case" books

Lorraine - even more loving in 2012 ♥ wrote: "There I was feeling bad about all the freebies I've downloaded but might never read as they are "just in case" books"

I think it's an addiction Lorraine - I'm sick of trawling through the hundreds of freebies that we get these days, but feel compelled to in case I miss something good.....

I still do, I seem to be after more cookbooks and more kids books and more whatever tickles my fancy... Nearly downloaded one today just because I liked the cover ! Then I realised it was part two and how silly that was getting !

message 9: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I'm the same Karl, too many, too much time = cuts back time for reading.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

It didn't bother to search through the freebies email today but relied on others' recommendations. Some good ones highlighted today, and I've only just found out that one of the books I download on recommendation is by one of our authors! I've just added it to my list - which is growing by the minute!

:0)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Having had a quick glance through your list just reinforced that you and I have very similar tastes, Karen. I've known that for months. I've already read several on your list though...
I may piggyback on your challenge, if you don't mind. I might sort out my own proper list when (if!) we get settled back on the island, though...

Of course, join in - the more the merrier! I'm a bit nervous about some of the "grittier" books - I have to be feeling strong to read a thriller to cope with the stress (I'm half way through Mighty and Strong but had to leave it when life got stressful, so will have to go back to it later when I feel completely calm again. I read Six Seconds with breaks in between) so I'm not sure when I will get round to or be able to cope with books like The Kult. I may have to skip passages like I did in the Righteous!

:0)

message 13: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I didnt realise Nick Spalding was one of our authors!! YAY I have one more to add to my list this year I read one of his, well a short story but in my book that still counts!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

There's quite a few on here who don't visit that often, but I still class them as one of "ours". Maybe as this group grows and amazoo gets more petty, those authors will visit here more often...

:0)

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I keep adding to my list as I remember books that I had forgotten. It will take a couple of years at this rate....

:0)

message 16: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Great Karen, that must have taken ages.I trawled through our Meet the Author thread when checking up on what I had read.Stll have lots to catch up on though.
Re downloading freebies being addictive,I have made a point of not even looking this past few days but my resistance is weakening already.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just been checking other people's recommendations lately.

I love goodreads for organising my books - I've just found that you can create your own books shelves on here, so I'm going to make a shelf for goodreads author's that I have read. It will be interesting to see how many - I know I've read quite a few indie books already.

:0)

message 18: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Wheeeeeeeeeeee! That was the sound of my good intentions flying out the window.Just downloaded Playground Cool!

Philip (sarah) wrote: "Wheeeeeeeeeeee! That was the sound of my good intentions flying out the window.Just downloaded Playground Cool!"

Tee hee - well at least he is one of "our" authors!!

I've just created and filled my new shelf and I find that I have read 33 books written by authors on this forum! I've read several other indie books but those authors haven't winged their way over here yet. It must be the ex-library assistant in me, but I love being able to organise my virtual book shelves!

:0)

message 20: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I really must go into Goodreads and update my shelves,I have only been in once since joining the forum. My place must be needing a good spring clean.HeHe.

Wow - that sounds interesting! What happened??

:0))

message 23: by Elle (last edited Jan 12, 2012 04:44AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Haha well. Someone suggested a new default shelf and I pretty much told him the idea was lazy, because it is...

He just wanted a new default shelf so he wouldn't have to go through the whole 'complicated process' (seriously?!) of making a new shelf that was exclusive ^-^

Plus he was assuming that everyone used the shelves like he did aka "To-Read" what he owns to read and then he wanted another default shelf for 'Future Reads' aka ones he doesn't own yet. I don't use my to-read shelf like that..

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just edited in a second list with the books that I did read last year that were written by goodreads authors. Then I can move books from the first list to the second. This is getting addictive....

:0)

message 25: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments I've only just discovered that you can create your own shelves. I might make one for books I haven't bought yet but know I want to read. I can't justify buying them yet because they are either above my budget right now or because I already have too many on my kindle I know I want to read.

The wee one is just about to go down for a nap and I was going to use the time to jump in the shower and then maybe play world of warcraft for half an hour. Decisions decisions. Shower and Warcraft or sort my books into shelves???

That sounds a good idea - would be easier to manage than a wishlist on amazon.

Err - world of war craft, shower later.

:0)

message 27: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I'd go for hygiene and gaming because both those things make me happy although organising makes me happy too..............

maybe all 3 xD!

message 28: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments yea could you organise your shelves while playing warcraft?

message 29: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments I opted to go for shower/warcraft. After looking at my wish list on Amazon and my samples on Kindle, I think shelf organising is one of those things I am going to do gradually when I have a spare 10 mins here and there, rather than try to attempt it all in one go.

Not sure I could do both at the same time Jud. It would mean having to alt-tab out of Warcraft to get to goodreads and then I wouldn't really be playing. Btw I don't think I mentioned yet how much I liked the poem you made about Darren the other day...lol. I forget what thread it was ;-).

message 30: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Ahaha :o) thanks. More of a silly ditty than a poem.

message 31: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Right I think I will join you in that 'clean' thing and go shower and get ready (still sitting in my pjs and old fleece top)!

Then I think maybe some reading. I got most of my facts down for this interview

message 32: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments WHAT!! still in your jammies?! I'm just about to finish work for the day.

message 33: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments in my defence, i was up late, woke up too early for a workout and then afterwards decided to go back to bed for a nap...

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Just been tidying up my list (and adding some more titles!) I'm going to cheat a bit now so have downloaded three short stories to get me started - Lipstick and Knickers,Right Dress, Wrong Girl and Passion, Fire and Fury.

:0)

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Getting on well with my challenge - I've now finished Lipstick and Knickers by Rosen Trevithick Passion, Fire and Fury by Mel Comley Right Dress, Wrong Girl by Karl Jones His Wife for a While by Donna Fasano

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Karen! Wow! Congratulations!

Must say that before moderating our group I read like Jud and you.
Bless him, Simon keeps telling me to put my reading first and I will. When I get caught up. Lol!

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

This group is addictive.

The trouble with my challenge is that I keep adding to the list - I keep downloading new stuff from our authors...

:0)

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

I've now read a few more books from "our" authors! (one wasn't on the list because it has only just been released)

A Time To Heal by Mel Comley Return Of The Runaway Bride (Silhouette Romance, #999) by Donna Fasano Voodoo Deadly (Amber Fox Mystery, 3) by Sibel Hodge
