And on the topic of swearing (so dear to our hearts) I once heard a fascinating radio interview. Someone had researched the escalation of swearing and their hypothesis was that there had to be 'ordinary' swear words that could be used on a daily basis and 'really bad' swear words for use in emergencies.
He was also comparing Australia, where F*** is in daily use but C*** is much more offensive, with America where the reverse is the opposite.
It was a great interview, shame I have forgotten the name of the guy.

And those particular two performers lasted the distance. I was never into Joel and John, but I respect them as artists that's for sure.

I have to admit, I do swear regularly. Not forced or loudly just as a natural part of my day to day. I can also drop out the c*** word when I am around those I am most comfortable with. It is rare, not a weekly thing, maybe fortnightly. Sometimes it is the only way to describe the guy down the road who is a real **** to everybody. ;)

Tell me you're not talking about The B-52s and Devo Terri, that would undermine my belief in your good taste, you must mean some of the good punk bands? Mind you I suppose there might be debate about which bands were really punk and which were New Wave, but lets not go there.
I agree Darla each decade seems to throw up some great singer song writers and after establishing themselves in the seventies Joel and John were at the top of their game in the early eighties.

Have you got any good Mongol swears or curses Bryn? Maybe something a long the lines of may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits, but with a Mongol flavour.

I mean The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Blondie, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedy's, The Clash, Misfits, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, The Exploited....stuff like that.

Hahaha! Good question. :-)

Got the Mongol slang at my fingers' ends. I bet you can hear me from New Zealand when annoyed.

My faith in your tastes is restored Terri. My wife and I saw Blondie in concert a year or two back, Debbie Harry just sole the show. They shared the bill with Chrissie Hynd and the Pretenders, who they left in the dust, Hynd has fantastic voice but she had a very boring new lead guitarist .

You must share some Bryn.

I would love to see Blondie. :( She is awesome. STILL is awesome.
Hynd is good, with the Pretenders, but I have always wondered whether she would be dull live.

All this talk of 80s music and no one has yet mentioned Iron Maiden, Metallica or Motorhead? Or Slayer? Megadeth? Have you people no taste? :-)

Thanks Tim, I can't possibly forget them since my teenager kid these days listen exclusively to these bands. And he says you have to keep this kind of music loud.

Tell me you're not talking ..."
I'd be hard pressed to even think of an 80s artist...apart from Bucks Fizz *shudders*

Sorry Tim...it was remiss of me. Some great metal came out of the 80's also.
Although you forgot to mention Motorhead. :-) (edit: oh wait, yes you did)

It's amazing how many times I get that reaction when I say I like Meat Loaf. :p

My boss hides in his office when I play my Meat Loaf CD. He's more a Kiss, Motley Crue, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden kind of guy. :D
Actually, I think my folk music worries him less than Meat Loaf does. :D

That it does. :D

Okay, lets face it, music wise, the 80's did much for the world of music. It was just the clothes and the way we carried on that is ghastly to look back at. Hehe.

The hair! The hair! *claws at the air*

The thing with most 80's haircuts, is they don't do anything for the looks. They have the adverse effect and make us look unattractive!
I had a short blonde Madonna bob haircut that was acceptable, but then, I had some shockers as well! Some real shockers, once I discovered punk music.

I have either hidden or destroyed all my 80s photos. Such evidence of lack of taste in hairstyling and clothing does not need to be inflicted on future generations.

Rock of today (especially the rebel look) probably started with the Beatles, even though I was never a big fan of them. Too soft. But their look was the kicker. I remember my Dad saying "Well, their music ain't that bad but I can't stand to look at them with all that hair!!" We butted heads over my hair until his death in '78!!

Now you've got me intriged Terri. I'd love to see your punk-rock 80's hair. LOL
I had a variation of this...

I, too, have seen Blondie. I think that it was in '02 and the B-52's were with her. I LOVE the B-52's and they did really well but, Blondie was magnificent, but was not always able to hit her old high notes. Fun, fun show!

I love Motorhead and Metallica! I am a head-banger at heart. I wasn't in to it when it was first out, it had to grow on me. Now, I prefer it to the softer stuff.

My 18 year old is very into these bands right now. It is so funny because he will come to me all excited and say things like, 'Mom, have you ever heard of the really cool band The Clash?' I just have to giggle and ask if he remembers just how old I am.

I would love to be able to read the language, but alas, there is nothing that would suggest I could ever possibly get away with it.

I went back and forth with my hair styles, but I did sport a lopsided blonde haircut like this for a year or so before growing my hair into a chin level bob like Madonna in vogue. :-) .

Then went blue black with a blonde streak on one side for a while...then I joined the adult workforce and grew my hair out to the long hair I have to this day. My music tastes stayed the same though. Still love my punk.

I have heard of this happening a lot lately. Mum's and Dad's who grew up with this era music are having their kids 'discovering' the bands that we were into as kids. It is weird. :-)

I should really say I wasn't a fan of 80's bubblegum pop. All fluff and fizz.
