Angela McPherson | 180 comments Okay so now the question for you, Dan, is what did you think of the fabulous Twilight??? Hmmm.

message 107: by Dan, Deadly, dangerous and out for blood..... (new)

Dan (dan2345) | 649 comments Mod
LOL...I'm afraid to go there. Well, I did see the first movie and have read the first book. Personally I...eh...don't like it. I mean, I know that you guys like it and I respect that. But, I'm sorry I just don't like it.

message 108: by Angela (new)

Angela McPherson | 180 comments I had a sneaking suspicion that would be the case. So, what about it did you not like? Of course, I loved the love story and the added bonus was that it deals with vampires and put a whole new spin to them- among many others lovable points for me;)

message 109: by Rayna (last edited Feb 16, 2012 06:26PM) (new)

Rayna | 1785 comments Huh...i was under the assumption that you have read them all.....well to tell you the truth.....out of all the movies the first movie was the worst! HAve gotten better as they go (except for the first half of Breaking Dawn-it was hoakey) and out of the the books i would have to say the book i would rate it third out of the four

Well, besides the whole sparkling in the sun thing there were a number of things that I didn't like about it. I could list them, but I don't want to.

message 111: by Angela (new)

Angela McPherson | 180 comments My favortie of the books is Eclipse! And I was a little disappointed with the movie and I am so NOT going there with you, Ray, about Breaking Dawn part 1! I thought they acted the best out of all the movies...just sayin.

message 112: by Angela (new)

Angela McPherson | 180 comments Fine Dannyboy! LOL. We all have different tastes, I guess it's okay if you didn't like it;)

I actually read somewhere that some of the fans of the book complained about the sparkling scene in the first movie. They said they thought it looked like he was just wearing too much body glitter or something like that. LOL.

message 117: by Rayna (new)

Rayna | 1785 comments it was really bad.....but i actually rolled my eyes in the book too! i heard they spray painted abs on him in new moon cause he looked too frumpy and hat a little pot belly and man boobies...lol

message 118: by Angela (new)

Angela McPherson | 180 comments I am going to cover my eyes! This is an impasse!

message 119: by Rjsmommy (new)

Rjsmommy I've come to help defend our Edward Angela! I totally agree that Eclipse is the best book and I thought the best movie so far...but I did like Breaking Dawn. And yeah, I heard they spray painted abs on Edward too...but it is only a rumor (at least he Rob has come out as well as others and denied it). I tend to lean more towards the steroids rumor with Taylor. And yeah, the sparkling in the first movie was so cheesy... but the first was the worst movie in both special effects and adaptation in my opinion.

message 120: by Angela (new)

Angela McPherson | 180 comments Ahh, Thanks RJ! I knew I could count on you;) I think I'm the oly one who liked the first movie. It was from watching Twilight that I found out that is was from a book and thus started my reading. I think the looked the best in Twilight too. My son walked in while I was watching Breaking Dawn and said, 'mom why does Alice look so different in all the movies?' LOL Yes, they know each and every character and it's all because of me, lol.

I had a feeling that someone was going to say that. I feel that I gave it a fair shot by atleast reading the first one. I mean I've met people who say they don't like it without even reading any of them!

Rjsmommy Amazon's Kindle Daily Deals is offering a vampire anthology of Victorian shorts that might be interesting for us :

Kindle Daily Deal: Dracula's Guest: A Connoisseur's Collection of Victorian Vampire Stories ($1.99)

Before Twilight, vampires haunted popular culture around the world in the nineteenth century. In Dracula’s Guest, Michael Sims gathers the best vampire stories of the Victorian era, a collection that highlights their cultural variety. Sims rounds out the anthology with a chapter omitted from Bram Stoker's legendary 1897 novel, Dracula.

Dracula's Guest and other Victorian Vampire Stories by Michael Sims

Dan, This is probably more to your liking than Twilight :)

I have to thank Twilight too! I dont hate Twilight i think there is definately ALOT of cheese in the story and think there are many things that could have been better.....but honestly (and i know it may put me in the freak category here) but i have read the series 4 times...and i have them in audio too and have listened to them in my vehicle like 3 or 4 times....so really if a person has gone through this series 7 to 8 times since the first movie came out its not that bad! Its easy to pick out the bad things and bash them but ill go with the good!!!

A couple who can come through impossible situations and have their faith and love for each other tested at every corner is amazing! Also, at such a young age to have 2 love interests and have to pick forever and pick right....yes i said right! Edward and Bella belong together...yes i said it! Then to always see the good eventhough there is so much bad in the world. Yes im a twilight fan.....its just humerous to me that things like sparkly vampires....but i have to say i wish Meyer would do that Midnight sun series to its full extent......Edawrd is so complicated and it brought the dark side to the story which i really did like!

I definitely agree with your comment about Midnight Sun. There was so much going on with Edward that noone knew about. Edward plots ways to kill everyone in Bio class just so he could drink Bella, how he rages against Mike Newton and wants to punch him through the wall...but also the sweet stuff too like how he saves the bottle cap from Bella's drink at lunch or how he arranges for Eric and Angela to get together. If only Meyer would finish this she would win millions of hearts all over again.

message 126: by Angela (new)

Angela McPherson | 180 comments I haven't finished midnight sun:( I know, crazy since Iove twilight. I'll finish it one of these days.

message 127: by Rjsmommy (new)

Rjsmommy Oh my god...you're an Edward fan and haven't read that. You soooo need to. It is better than Twilight.

message 128: by Angela (new)

If you notice, I have just changed our profile image(hope that's okay Tiff and Rayna). It's a painting. The title of the painting is, "The Vampire". It was painted by Edvard Munch, the same artist who painted "The Scream". I've actually seen the original in The Met in New York. Many have different theories about the meaning of the painting. I've read that it's about vampires! As you can see, it looks like a red haired woman is biting a man on the neck. Interpret as you will!

This series is an excellent Historical Vampire read that i fell in love with! I had to review Caressed by Moonlight for NRR and i enjoyed it greatly! Amanda is a member of Vamps-R-Us and she is giving us a copy to contest off.....we will tie it in to her book release at then end of this month when this book comes out!

put your thinking caps on....i also put a link to my review of this book so you can get more of an idea about the story.....also this contest will be open to MODS as well!

Lets get some good ideas going here and really do a good job for Amanda!

Caressed by Night (Rulers of Darkness, #2) by Amanda J. Greene

Rayna | 1785 comments K.....Tiff just emailed me and she is out of commission for a while.....nasty virus got her computer and she is working from her phone which takes alot of time.....so we are on our own deciding on that contest! Lemme here from you!!!

message 139: by Angela (new)

Angela McPherson | 180 comments Whatever y'all wanna do:)

message 140: by Rjsmommy (new)

Rjsmommy Just to throw some things out...
1. A diamante poem contrasting witches and vampires (I can supply the template... it's a pretty simple 7 line poem)...

2. Or perhaps put your favorite vamp in late 1800's/ early turn of the century; what would he be doing?

3. Post a picture of a 19th century vamp (or your favorite vamp) to get entered into a random drawing.

4. Or perhaps post an excerpt from the book that describes Dorian and post a picture of someone (actor/model) who they think best portrays him. We could let Amanda choose the winner.

Just a few...yes...some are lame English teacher assignments.

message 144: by Rayna (new)

Rayna | 1785 comments Im thinking poetry too! since Ms. Greene writes historical vampire romance i think we should possbily tie that in as well!

We will launch the contest on the release date which is next week so lets get some solid ideas going here!

message 145: by Rjsmommy (new)

Rjsmommy Thanks for posting the contest for Caressed by Night...I've been working on my poem and am almost finished. It sucks (and not in a good, hot, sexy vampiric way but it's an effort).

I just posted a new poll for Tohr's HEA and sent out a notice so hopefully that may get some nmore discussion and excitement going.

message 146: by Angela (new)
