I gotta pipe in that I don't like Depp for Elodin, if only because I know Depp will just do the eye brow arching and abrupt stutter speech that he brings to all of his "weirder" characters.

I think Lee pace would be a much smarter choice. Elodin has gravitas when he wants it, and while Depp is amazing, I don't see the gravitas.

If the Kingkiller's were to be adapted it should be for an HBO style series.

A film wouldn't work, its far far too big for that. Think how much stuff they'd have to cut out. Even the narrative wouldn't work for a film. :)

Eddie Redmayne is a fantastic actor. There are so many.

More appropriate question: Would the majority of actors be American/English/European? Or a mix?

Wouldn't both Denna and Kvothe have to be singers as well?

MY vote goes to Naya Rivera for Denna... Young enough, pretty, can act and sing..

I'm suprised no has thouhgt of Dennis Leary for Elodin. He definately can do ecentric...

I agree with some comments which say that non-mainstream actors would be best and do a Game of Thrones type fo casting. Let them grow with the show (yes, movie is way too short. You'd need at least a trilogy per book).

But, in keeping with the spirit of the main post, I propose:

- Sean Bean as Arliden, which fits perfectly since Sean Bean dies in all his movies :D

Granted, it's not perfect, and even I don't think my choice for Kvothe fully fits. But it's a work in progress, and it keeps my mind from anxiously waiting for book 3.

Feel free to counter propose, but, "I don't like Bla Bla as [character]" doesn't work for me if you don't give me someone else to fill the void. If you don't like a choice, give me your opinion of a better choice and why it'd be a better choice.

It isn't by far the most complete list, and there're even some main characters missing, but my brain will only go so far.

Gustaf Skarsgård would be perfect for Elodin (he was amazingly lunatic in Vikings).

For Kvothe, the only possible option I could think of was Thomas Brodie-Sangster. But I'd love to see a talented no-name playing him.

For the rest I'm not convinced, I just know I wouldn't want to see any of the mainstream actors mentioned here such as Natalie Portman, Johnny Depp, Andrew Garfield or Jake Gyllenhall. The Kingkiller Chronicle is a world of its own and a beautiful creation. I imagine new talented actors giving life to characters on screen.

The whole idea of a Name of the Wind movie makes me cringe. I loved the books but they just wouldn't fit into a movie adaptation.

Ed Skrein as Kvothe. Not sure if he has singing skills, but he has the looks and mannerisms.

Just being honest, IMO Natalie Portman is not hot enough to be Denna. Also, Denna is only 17 or so, right? Natalie Portman is getting a little too old.

IMO Nina Dobrev would be perfect.

I think Rupert Grint would be an awesome Kvoth if he pulled a transformation off, like Jim from The Office did. He's shredded now and Grint could do the same.

So, now the series has been confirmed, I wonder about the casting.
I think, Eddie Redmayne could play the older Kvothe.

But there must be at last three actors for him.
For the main actor I think he should be between 18 and 23. The same for Denna and Kvothes friends.

Has anyone given any thought to Felurian? In my head I kept seeing Candice Swanepoel, I know felurian was desrcibed as having dark hair and Candice is not an actor..

Sean Bean has to be in the movie somewhere! I loved him in Game of Thrones and LOTR and it seems fitting, he's great in these kind of genres. Possibly Kvothe's father?

What do you all think about Jake Gyllenhall possibly playing adult innkeeper Kvothe? He's got the face for it, don't know how he'd go with fiery red hair.. haha

Whenever I see Patrick Wolf with his red hair, I instantly think of Kvothe. Not to mention that Patrick is an actual musician!

I don't know who should play Denna, but someone who is NOT Natalie Portman. When I imagine Denna, in my mind I see a young woman who looks very youthful... Maybe in her early twenties at most in age... somewhat tanned skin, a slight crook to her nose, with dark and straight hair.

- You can't choose Kvothe. He has to be someone knew. It's a big risk, but it has to be someone who's not connected with any other character.
- For Denna, I was thinking Ellen Page. I don't know about her acting much, but I think she's considered good.
- Fela: I'd say Trachtenberg. Fela should have some bigger boobs and Michelle is rumored to have C, that's ideal for Fela. Other option could be Emilie de Ravin
- I agree that Chloë Grace Moretz should be Devi, but that would colide with my other choosings, since she's older than Fela - so maybe AnnaSophia Robb, but she's still too young. Maybe aslo Emilie, but I don't know about her devious side, I always saw her as a sweet character (I haven't seen much stuff with her)
- Auri would be probably better character for AnnaSopia Robb, than Devi, but again, too young in comparison to others
- John Rhys Davies can't be Abenthy. If Rothfuss, won't play Kilvin, Gimli has to do it.
- Aaron Johnson looks good for Jakis, though I don't know anything about him
- I don't want Ben Barnes as Bast. He doesn't have the necessary charisma.

I would like Emma Watson to at least appear, so she could probably play Mola

These are characters that I thought about so far.

Personally I pictured Denna as someone like the girl who plays Lana in the TV series Superman (sorry don't know her name and can't be bothered to look it up hehe).

The whole time I was reading, I pictured Kvothe looking like Jamie Bell. I think he's a tad old but I know he could pull off the roll.

Rickman would be perfect as Lorren.

i think tudyk would make a better elodin than almost anyone else. I think depp could definitely do an amazing job but i feel like he could end up turning him into jack sparrow.

alan rickman ought to get a role as either elxa dal or the chancellor (hermsomething) but definitely not hemme as that would lead to to many associations with hp.

i like the idea of Cameron Monaghan for kvothe.

and i think mark addy, the guy playing robert baratheon would work as kilvin.

actually thinking about shamless(US) makes me think that william h macy would work really well as hemme

For Kvothe, I would say Cameron Monaghan from the US version for "Shameless".

I would suggest Kristin Bell for Devi. She might be a little too old for the role but I can see her playing the character perfectly.

Everyone else you mentioned, Alexander, work for me. Never thought about Natalie Portman for Denna but she would be great... she's little older but Portman still has a lot of youth to her face.

Has Rothfuss spoken about his picks for actors in the roles? I've never read anything on his opinion.

And although I didn't think about it, Deep wouldn't be a bad Elodin :) They both have an eccentric air :D

I loved the way he portraited Jack in The pillars of the earth. He would be a great Kvothe, I think :)
