ABANDONED. Book involving Neanderthals, time travel and the reason why the Neanderthals disappeared.

I don't know much about the book except that it was about the Neanderthals - they were telepathic and knew that they and their abilities would be needed in the future so they time-traveled to the time and place they would be needed again.

It may have involved the Celts and I believe there was a sequel.

If anyone can help me find this book I would really appreciate it!

You could look here there is a list of novels with Neanderthals in it. I don't see anything that is obviously what you are referring to but it could be there - or at least trigger something in your memory.

Neanderthal by John Darnton? I remember that the Neanderthals had a telepathy of sorts, but I don't remember anything about time travel. It is highly possible that I didn't get to finish the book before returning it to the library, though...

I read a book about genius neanderthals with telepathy, one time travelled to our time by mistake, a woman was raped in our time (graphic description), this woman was a scientist, her rapist was never caught, she met the neanderthal male that came to our time by mistake, they fell in love. In the neanderthals time, homosexuality was not an issue. The displaced neanderthal male fell sick cos of our bacteria once, but survived. He was able to make it back to his time.
I put all this there in case it's the book Beth was looking for in January 2012...I don't remember the title, but I put all those details maybe it would jog someone's memory...
