Sometimes I find that I have to sleaf through many books before I find something I like. Some books are deceptively interesting but turn boring after a few pages and I leave them midway through. My reading policy is 'life is too short and literature is never ending, so don't stress yourself over books you dont like'. But sometimes I feel guilty for abandoning those books. So this thread, as a sort of a memorial for these titles. And announcing the first one...

1. Cypress Point by Diane Chamberlain - My copy is titled "Shadow Wife"
I had loved 'saving CeeCee Honeycutt" and had heard lots of positive things about this book. It was interesting in the beginning, but then it turned mushy mushy and sentimental. I shy away from sentimental romance and I lost my sympathy towards the main character within a score of pages, and said goodbye to the book at about 40 pages or so.

:) I have not read sentimental romace yet, so no comments :)

But haven't yet abandoned a book. There was 'The Red Badge of Courage' by Stephan Crane which I stopped midway but picked it up again. And 'Billy Bud, Sailor' by Hermen Melville had me yawning all the way in the first few chapters. And quickly read it to finish it.

Vinoth | 4684 comments I usually dont read books out of my comfort zone.when i realized that my comfort zone was fast depleting i started reading other authors and started venturing into Non fiction too.

I chose Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler . I read the prologue and the only feeling i had was "what the heck is he trying to tell me" and that was the end of it.

The other book was Assassins Assignment Jerusalem, Target Antichrist by Tim LaHaye I read around 50 pages and had the feeling of "how could anyone write a book like this and whats the point he wants to make"

just the 2 books yet.hope there aren't anymore.

2. Screaming in the Silence by Lydia Kelly -2/5
Am rating it because I have read more than half the book. I got interested in Stockholm syndrome and started this book. Initially it was interesting, but halfway through it just disintegrated into various sexual encounters at different places and times between the handsome kidnapper (or one among the kidnappers) and the hearing and speech impaired victim. The story became repetitive and I had lots of interesting books waiting to be read. So am stopping it here, may take it up sometime later, whenever I feel the need of a respite from intellectually stimulating books. Hopefully the story will improve towards the end.

3. The Independence of Miss Mary Bennet by Colleen McCullough -2/5
It was disappointing. I usually like McCollough books , but could not digest the absurd portrayals of Darcy and Bingeley. Was shocked at the meekness of Elizabeth and the cruelty of Darcy, the loss of love between them. The mature and totally changed Mary too was unpalatable. So left the book half read at around 200 pages or so.
