Love Neruda.
Well, I somehow misplaced both Queen Pokou and the other book. So I went with a book set in Italy instead.
i'm hanging out in Czechoslovakia right now with Daughter of Smoke and Bone, then heading to Samoa with Black Coconuts, Brown Magic and Sri Lanka with Mosquito
I'm in Mali with Monique and the Mango Rains: Two Years with a Midwife in Mali then planning on heading to Moloka'i
DLMrose let me know how that is...I got it to read through interlibrary loan, but had to return it before I could finish it
Dee wrote: "DLMrose let me know how that is...I got it to read through interlibrary loan, but had to return it before I could finish it"I would recommend it. I thought it was very interesting. It didn't read like the typical Peace Corp memoir; this was more about Monique than Kris. It was really affecting, but the writing was pretty restrained.
so i'm just feeling not motivated to read either of the books I have on the pile right now...I requested 3 from ILL (for Sri Lanka, Samoa and Bulgaria) and just not feeling them...and they got to be returned to the library...oh well...

What is your Sri Lanka book? I am getting ready to read Anil's Ghost sometime in the next month.

Dee wrote: "maybe some short stories will help, while i'm listening to Daughter of Smoke and Bone for Czeckoslovakia, I also picked up East of the West for Bulgaria"East of the West looks really good, too. I am enjoying reading about the Caribbean this time of year so I am going to island hop over to Saint Maarten with Hurricanes, Paradise and Fairy Tales.
east of the west is good, i've read 2 of the short stories so far...i also have an easter island, B. VI on the pile and now Trinidad and Tabago, so hopefully something will catch me eye ;)
Spent some time in a Malawi prison with Jack Mapanje reading The Chattering Wagtails of Mikuyu Prison. Now I am off to Japan with Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto.

I should finish up Bulgaria tonight or tomorrow (yay for short stories) and after reading my friends review of On the Island (Maldives) that is going to be next...she is normally a pretty tough critic on non-romance books and she gave it 5 stars

Need to finish Song of the Magdalene for Israel and Wave of Terror for Belarus (hopefully this weekend). Then maybe to Wales with The Welsh Girl or New Zealand with The Whale Rider.

I'm finally heading to Haiti with Island Beneath the Sea. I didn't think my book would ever come in!
i'm finishing up in the BVI, then I have Easter Island, Tunisia and Trinidad and Tabago to visit next
Dee wrote: "i'm finishing up in the BVI, then I have Easter Island, Tunisia and Trinidad and Tabago to visit next"Sounds like you have some good traveling ahead of you! I am loving Island Beneath the Sea, but it is so long.
Dee wrote: "i have the audiobook of it - it is on the pile for Feb hopefully"I cheaped out and got the book. I am listening to Girl in Hyacinth Blue on audiotape.
I got it during one of the audible sales, it was like $5...I also have books for Sri Lanka, Croatia (and the group read) and UAE on CD that I've grabbed some various places
I would like to read that one.
I need to reread Bel Canto. It didn't move me the first time. I think it was my mood not the book.

I liked Bel Canto but didn't love it...it did make me go and look up the history of the event that it was based on. I have Pratchett's new book in the pile, but just haven't quite gotten to the need to read this stage yet
currently visiting Yemen with The Woman Who Fell from the Sky; Lesotho with She Plays with the Darkness and Ethiopia with Beneath the Lion's Gaze: A Novel
Dee wrote: "currently visiting Yemen with The Woman Who Fell from the Sky; Lesotho with She Plays with the Darkness and Ethiopia with Beneath the Lion's Gaze: A Novel"I'll need to know how you liked all of those books!
currently in Colombia with The Informers, then on to Panama with The Tailor of Panama. Then 4 more Central American countries. I've been in South America too long, longing for my European jaunt. I'm so moody lately, lol
Would you give it all up and retire to a beach in Mexico?Jeff Ashmead just released a non-fiction travel essay called, Tropical Delusion - Misadventures in Paradise. Jeff and I would like to tell your group about it and get your feedback on whether this is the place you would like to go next - we will be posting free copies soon on Goodreads. For details, you could look on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Tropical-Delusi...
Currently in Japan with Norwegian Wood and most likely moving on to England with One Day. I don't need another England book, but I'm excited because I received the book as a gift from a friend who had no clue that I've been wanting to read it for a long time.I need to re-read Bel Canto too, I left off halfway and just never went back.
