Aestas Book Blog Anyone know if there's a sequel to this?
(posting for a friend)

Trike Probably. I hated this book, so I hope not, but the guy sells books.

Tad It was certainly set up for a sequel. I hope there's one. It was a lot of fun, even if the end did strain credulity just a bit:)

Trike The end was out of the blue. Or the black, perhaps. It was like Weber got tired of writing a sci-fi book and suddenly decided to write a horror book. Or wanted to cash in on the vampire thing for no reason other than to cash in.

Kevin Milligan The ending to this book was horrible. While reading it I was engrossed in the storyline wondering just what would happen as the next kinetic shell falls upon a group of soldiers that put up a valiant defense. Wondering how the defense of mankind gets put together. The answer is worse than Battlefield Earths. I'd rather watch 1,000 year old Harrier jets attack alien ships any day.

Brendan Smith I concur with the other negative posts here. It's bad enough that the pox of vampire romance novels take up the precious space in the fantasy/scifi section at the book store - but to have this vamp/scifi novel/curse continue would be an abomination

Tasha I don't normally read scifi fiction but was thoughly enjoying the book until the "insert vampire in here", I audibly groaned out loud. I kept thinking why mess up a good storyline, could have had another species inhabiting earth alongside humans. Disappointing.

Talosdarkhart Sequel has been confirmed by Webber a few weeks ago.
I am actually quite happy about this as I enjoyed the first book.

Rob Falcon I know Webber is a big name and though I LOVE space opera in particular, I really did not like the book. But I enjoyed the plot line just not the way the author writes. Are his other books better?

Robert Burnham I think he made a bet with someone that he could write a best seller science fiction novel that included vampires.

chvang I thought this book was a sequel, to Brad Stoker's Dracula.

I hope he writes one for Frankenstein.

David Marshall I'm not sure a sequel would be interesting. Webber has made his heroes almost invincible. Reading about how easily they take over the galaxy would become monotonous.

Zhugenaut I thought it was an expanded version of his earlier short story. I hope there won't be any sequel.

Michael Moreau The book was great....well parts of it were. The whole idea of the aliens not being prepared for the militant humans was awesome. The discussions on board their command ships was great. Every time a chapter started from the perspective of a Shongairi you knew they were going to get slaughtered...that was great.

The vampire thing just came of nowhere at the end though and ruined what was an other (except for the excessively detailed gun descriptions) a fantastic novel.

Very Glad there's a Sequel, despite all the negative reviews I see here, there's continuity and thought behind Weber's writing. Very disappointing in Readers not entertaining Thought, but falling back onto cliché and negativity, as though instead of reading for Entertainment, they're playing politics. If you READ the book, the vampirism was present almost from the very beginning-signs and portents, because the author INTENDED to go there. I found it very intriguing and provoking as a novel and as prospect for future novels. Lets hope he doesn't pass like WEB Griffin before completing a series.

Michael Moreau sorry, I have to disagree.

yes, if you look extremely hard and already know it's there you get the tiniest little hints to the vampirism, but really that came COMPLETELY out of left field at the end of the book.

is it a neat idea? sure! was it executed terribly well? no, sadly. and that's a big disappointment because the rest of the book was SO good.
