Vedrana Vidicevic I put them back in library.

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 33 comments If they are vamp books (which I collect) I keep them. Otherwise I give to friends or charity

Jihaad Albayaty | 326 comments I bury mine

message 54: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Mayberry | 6 comments I try to keep most of mine. My poor book shelf is drying up because I always feel the need to share my favorites, and then I don't get them back. I lost an entire set that way. :( I also have a kindle, but some books are too pretty not to buy. I wish they had a code in the back of a hard book that you could scan (even if only once) to get the book on your kindle as well.

~Thena~ (athena-nadine) | 184 comments I keep all of my books unless I really hate them. Which doesn't happen very often. I need to buy another shelf because I'm just about out of room, and I don't like my books piled up all over them (I'm crazy like that lol). Even with over 500 ebooks on my NOOK, I prefer paper books for those I want to keep forever. In addition to buying new hardcovers and paperbacks, I'm also working on buying the ebooks I love most in paper.

message 56: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennicat) I also keep all my books unless I absolutely hate them.

I bought a Kindle 3 years ago, so I buy a lot fewer books in print now - but when I find one in Kindle that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, I will buy it in print too. I have 7 doublestacked floor-to-ceiling book shelves, each shelf groaning and drooping under the weight of everything wedged into it. There are also stacks of books on most of the flat surfaces in my house, and on the floor next to the bed.

A few years ago I went through and tried to be honest with myself about books I would never read or didn't like enough to read again and sent the equivalent of one paper grocery sack home with my mom to take to a used bookstore.

I have a large rubbermaid tote stuffed with those books that I "don't want to, but probably should, read but refuse to get rid of" shoved in the closet of the spare bedroom.

My goal in life is to live in a Library.

message 57: by An (new)

An I keep them either on my bookshelves or in the storage room.

message 58: by w :) (new)

w :) Lets just say I need some more bookshelves...

message 59: by Sam (new)

Sam (sam222) Most of my books I give to my grandmother, but if I like them and they was not borrowed from someone I will keep them.

message 60: by Liza (new)

Liza (lizamariereads) | 347 comments I keep my favorites and the others I take to half-price books and sell and use the money to get new books in their store. :)

message 61: by Clare (new)

Clare dooley (claredooley) I own a kindle fire with a insane amount of books on it, now an iPhone to, with an equally insane amount of books on it, but series I've collected since B.K. I but in physical copy, I have collectors o.c.d.so books loved so much I try to get them as hard cover & never touch them. No bent bindings etc. it's almost like a book shrine. I hate, hate, hate when I can't get one in hard cover, or worse the original artwork is only found on used copies. ( I love used book stores , but not to replace # 3 of a beloved series) only lost through moving or how dryers eat socks. It's terrible :(

message 62: by Sasha (new)

Sasha (sashamv) I get all of my book from the library, except in the cases where they were given to me from my school, or when I had to buy them for college.

I pretty much keep all the books I buy, but as I never read a book twice, it might be time to consider other options.

I have an entire Rubbermaid container filled with Japanese comics (in Japanese) in the basement. I keep telling myself that I'll translate them one day...

I like the idea of having a home library though. I'm a hoarder by nature.

I bet I have a bigger 'insane amount' than you...

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 374 comments But then again, I have 3 Kindles now. I don't have a problem... not at all

message 65: by Marni (new)

Marni (wonderwmn999) Right now all my signed books are in a box. I really need a book case. Before I got my nook and kindle I would go through my books about every 6 months or so and give to the library or charity the ones I didn't want anymore. I have some other books in boxes that I want to read and that I hope that one day I meet the author and can get them signed. I had bought Rot & Ruin on a whim and about 4 months after that went to a signing of his. That was awesome!

message 66: by Holly (last edited Feb 04, 2013 05:08AM) (new)

Holly Letson (bookaholicholly) | 20 comments Usually, I put all my books that I have read (or have extras of) into a box to take along with us to sell when we go set up at the flea market, but we haven't been in a month or so, so those are sitting in boxes in storage.

Wish I knew a good place around here to trade mangas with people.

message 67: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurakyhaara) I keep them in shoeboxes, although I have a separate box of those I didn't like or have duplicates of. I bring them to those "take a book, leave a book" things.

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

I keep by books in a bookshelf, which looks like a library. My mother insists that I donate them. Not going to happen since I reread books multiple times. Also, I do have ebooks like most people, which does help with the space issue.

message 69: by A.M. (new)

A.M. Hooper | 20 comments I like to pass books down to my five younger sisters when I'm through with them. I can't see keeping great books on my shelves when I know they can inspire my own sisters to love reading as much as I do! I'd rather read a new book than re-read an old one. There are just so many books to read!

message 70: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Turner (tashaturner) I try to pass along my romance books to friends or the local libraries. We still have some 5k in hardcover and paperbacks with bookshelves in every room of the house except bathrooms and the kitchen (although short stacks can be found in those rooms). My husband is a book hoarder so most of those are his... Although I'm sure a couple hundred are mine. I love ebooks as they don't take up physical space.

When I used to live in MA I had a circle of friends and we passed books around which saved money and space. Once I moved to NJ I did not find friends with the same reading interest and I also put my foot down on new physical books coming in as we still have books in boxes with no place to put them... I even have a custom built library but its not big enough to hold our books.

message 71: by Nicole D. (last edited Feb 07, 2013 12:29AM) (new)

Nicole D. (thereadingrebel) Keep the ones I love(I am a huge re-reader)and sell(at hastings)or give away the ones I think are just ok or hate(to the air force base library or VA hospital).I have 3 bookcases and plan to get another plus a kindle to keep up with my book collection.

message 72: by Erin (new)

Erin Latimer Jihaad wrote: "I bury mine"

lol...not sure what to say about that one.

I keep all the good ones in hopes that I someday have a beauty and the beast style library.

The ones I don't like as much go to support my local indie bookstore.

message 73: by Emily (new)

Emily (emkathh) i don't own a kindle and i don't like the idea of not having my books in physical form. i don't know why.

message 74: by Dianne (new)

Dianne | 34 comments We have one room with wall to wall bookshelves. Our family seldom gives away books because most of us are re-readers.

message 75: by Whitney Greene (new)

Whitney Greene | 15 comments I keep most of my books. They make for good decor :) My dad helped me build a bookshelf that covers the entire wall and wraps around to the next wall to make a huge L. It's almost floor to ceiling but if I ever move out of my loft, I can move it. That is if will fit out the door. Hmmm, didn't really think that through until now.....

message 76: by Julie (new)

Julie Reece Share them, trade them at the used book store, keep my most favorite on my shelves!

message 77: by Raven (last edited Feb 07, 2013 08:07PM) (new)

Raven (missy_aurora) | 0 comments I keep most of my books but the ones I know I won't read again I donate to the library. I get most of my books from the library because I don't have a lot of storage space and I don't reread very many. I also have books for my Nook but then again they are mostly library books.

message 78: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Orchard (natashamaree) I keep all my books except those from the library dues to obvious reasons, but i think keeping them means that if i have a need to re-read a book they will always be there

message 79: by Santana (new)

Santana I like keeping my books unless i dont like them then they go to used book stores

Yay! Another traditional book reader! I refuse to get an ereader!

message 81: by Deeann (new)

Deeann (forevereader61) | 50 comments I keep most all my books ... The ones I don't like I usually pass on to used bookstores or paperback swap. I love my books !

message 82: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer I keep my favorites, those that aren't well liked go to the used book store. I am not a kindle person. There's something about having a book in my hands. :)

message 83: by Christine (new)

Christine | 5 comments I used to go to the library a lot or when I bought the books, I would give them to the library. Now I have a Nook and I'm spending way too much money buying books all the time BUT I love reading on an e-reader. I was always the person that said they would never ever use one but I had to work in the city for a couple of weeks and take a train in so there was no way that I could lug a huge book with my work computer and papers so I broke down and bought one -- I AM SOOOO HOOKED but I feel guilty about not having an actual book to read.

Yay! Another traditional book reader! I refuse to get an ereader!

I completely agree!!! Around my birthday and holidays I get told how much of a pain I am because I refuse the offers of ereaders. I sometimes read manga from my phone but I prefer the book.

I keep all of mine. I think I have only recently started to get rid of books i read in middle school, I am now 27. Right now my books are all in storage, but when I finally settle, I will have a room full of books. I love to re read a good story! My poor Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone book needs to be replaced....I broke the spine :(

message 85: by Alison (new)

Alison (faerychaos) I have quite a few books, basically a mini library if they weren't in boxes in storage. I send books to my bff in FL and my niece in CA. I have donated to libraries (mostly in FL) and a juvie program in FL (5 full boxes of boxes for them).

I do have a Kindle Fire, but to be honest, I don't use it that much really, especially compared the # of books I read from the library. And I have used the loan option to share what books I have purchased on it :)

Right now I use the local library as a main source of getting books. Thankfully I can get books from all over the state delivered to my library, which really helps! I also use Amazon, once the books are really low in price ($3.99 or less for a book and shipping) or the local used book store.

message 86: by Erin (last edited Feb 15, 2013 11:30AM) (new)

Erin Latimer I actually even kept my book I read in middle school because I hope to read them to my kids someday (only the good ones of course).

I can't imagine reading story books with my kids on an ereader. Not the same!

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

I sometimes keep the books I love and have read during my school years in middle school and sometimes I give them away to charity or libaries in need. I love giving books away to help other people get books cheaper. At the libaray bookstore where i live, books are usually 1, 2, 3, or 4 dollers and that's freakin' sweeter than paying 20 dollers or 17 dollers for a book at the stores. Anyway, I'm going to the bookstore barns and nobles today and buying the second book to the Caster chronicles. Oh yeah!

message 88: by T.A. (new)

T.A. White I tend to horde my books as I never know when I will want to reread them. They take up a lot of space that I don't necessarily have and so every so often I weed out some but never as many as I need to. The discards usually go to a half price book store so they can be told cheap.

message 89: by Tee27 (new)

Tee27 | 36 comments I keep some of my books and donate the others to the library. Sometimes, I even give them to friends or co-workers.

message 90: by [deleted user] (new)

I used to be a hoarder but it got too out of hand. So I donate books to my library and sell them to my used book store. Though, now that I read only on ereaders I'm back to hoarding. But it's guilt free at least.

message 91: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiehayoz) | 12 comments This is a problem for me. I am not one who usually rereads books -- apart from one or two major faves, I never reread. However, I don't want to give my books away, either! I lend them to friends and some get lost that way, but otherwise they are piled up on shelves collecting dust. My husband is THRILLED I got a Kindle. Saves on space and clutter.

message 92: by Mitsy (new)

Mitsy (mitsyc) | 68 comments I keep my favorites, take great books to the local library, and give the rest to a local used book store. If it's a series, I try to buy boxed sets to save a little space.

Amy (DemonKittie) (demonkittie) | 502 comments The ones I really like are in a bookcase or several. The ones I can live without get donated or passed on.

I have so many that I have won from Giveaways (50, and I only started the first of December 2012) that I am not sure what to do with them all. LOL

message 94: by K. (new)

K. Gorman (k_gorman) | 4 comments If the book has impressed me enough, it remains on my bookshelf. I like to hoard books I could *possibly* read again.

If the book didn't make the bookshelf cut, I trade it in at one of the second-hand bookstores. Some of them don't take books all the time, so I have several that I go to.

I also tend to foist books onto my mom for her to read, and vice versa.

My current living-abroad situation has made me not purchase many physical books, instead leaning on my e-reader's memory.

message 95: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 9 comments I tend to hoard my books until I have to move then I usually have a big purge, but I buy so many books that the shelves never get less crowded. I used to think if I got rid books I might forget I read them - now that I have goodreads to track that I'm rethinking my physical library. I've had a Kindle for a year and love it so much I'm seriously thinking about eliminating physical books. Where do they go? I take them to Halfprice books to sell. I don't get much money but at least someone else gets to read them. I always keep my most favorites so the oldest books in my library will probably never leave.

message 96: by Az (أسماء) (new)

Az (أسماء) I keep, then keep, then keep them again!!! I can NOT bring myself to do other wise, i loan them to my friends and people but i always cant wait to have them back in my bookshelf where they belong again!!!!!
I re-read EVERY book i buy, get, or own, and i re read my faves more than three times somethings (a freak, i know! xP ) BUT i just can't help myself..... i find peace, imagination, astonishment, inspiration, amazingness, and new worlds in them so therefore i can't stop reading them

chucklesthescot I keep the books I want to re-read. Those that were ok or I liked but didn't love, I trade, bookcross or put in the charity shop.

message 99: by [deleted user] (new)

I keep all the books after reading. Even if they're bad, I keep them in my bookshelf and I just LOVE to see the number of books increase each year. It's even my dream to open a library! Or if not a library, then at least have a whole room in my house denoted and full of books!!:)

message 100: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephieja) | 42 comments I hoard the book that I loved and read them again later. The ones I didn't like so much, I give to someone that might like them or donate them to the library or Goodwill.
