Storm had be lying in the trees watching the three wolves with interest, she kept her location notraceable as she watch and listen to them.
He shrugged, still sitting in order to 'protect' Whisper; if he laid down, she would then be completely exposed behind him. "Traveling. Relaxing. Same old."
Blowing softly at the falling leaves, the wind all around them seem to pick up. Her tail swished against the truck, she inched forward interested where this was going unaware that the branch was brittle.
He eyed her back, considering it, then he said, "Fine. But keep your distance from Whisper." He flicked his tail towards the wolf behind him, gesturing towards her.
Just began drawing his tongue over his paws, cleansing them even though there really wasn't any point in doing so; they'd just become dirty again.
Suddenly, he chuckled to himself, leaning over to speak quietly with Whisper, though he decided to talk loud enough so that Shae could hear. "Shae's like my sidekick." He intentionally put her in the underdog seat and threw her a playful wink after speaking.
He rumbled a chuckle, resting his head on his paws. "You never know; having others around you all the time isn't so bad."
"Well, that's what you are." He grinned while peering over at her. "'Cause I'm not the sidekick."
Just lifted his head amd gave her a raised-eyebrow look, as if challenging her motive to do whatever it was she was about to do.
But he had been watching her every move since she stood, and so when she tackled him, he was ready; he lifted his paws when she jumped, defending himself when she landed on him and tossing her to the side with a half-laugh, half-growl to follow.
He huffed, rolling back onto his stomach. "No thank you; I've proven my point already." Just smiled softly.
Just breathed a sigh of contentment, then glanced from Whisper to Shae, then back to Whisper. "So how are you guys?"
"Well, I do realize that," he said. "I meant how are you doing as in, how are you feeling." He shrugged.
Suddenly, Just's ears pricked and he leaped to his paws. "I gotta go." Then he began to hasten away from the two of them; he made no gesture telling them to follow, but he didn't make any that told them to stay, either.
He waved off her question with a swift swish of his tail, not faltering in his step as he did so.
"I don't have a sidekick," he growled, giving her a rather dark look; apparently his talk from earlier was all playful. Then he kept on moving, picking up his pace as the rush began to get to him.
"You tell me," Just grumbled, still hurrying away; he didn't seem to be running from them as much as he was running to somewhere else. "Whisper, I wouldn't be so sure." He gave her a worried look -- not for her, but for what was to come.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, he snarled, slowing until he was trotting, then he came to a slow stop. His fur bristled and he bared his teeth; really, he'sd never appeared so menacing before -- at least not in front of Whisper. Before them stood two other wolves, one big, black, and male like him, the other small, brown with a bunch of white and beige patches, and female. The male was standing over the female, aggressive, dominating the poor, submissive she-wolf with growls of his own. "Lupine!" Just snarled again, and the other black wolf looked over. "Well, well, well," he returned. "What brings a brute like you around these parts?" Just curled his lip. "I think you can answer that for me." He glanced at the female with his words.
The black wolf huffed. "Remind me." He still stood over the female who trembled beneath him; she appeared to be very young, probably about one year old or so. Just's ears flattened. "You know I'll tear you to shreds if I have to. Step away from her." His voice was unusually calm compared to his stature; anger would have meant yelling, and then it was overwith. Remaining calm, however, meant much, much more. The black wolf grunted. "Why didn't you just say so?" And with that, he took a step away from the she-wolf, and she immediately jumped to her paws and raced behind the other three. Just returned the grunt with his own. "Scat." The black wolf seemed displeased, but he turned away with his ears folded back against his head, reluctantly obedient; Just was right -- he could tear the black wolf to shreds easily, for the black wolf was just another wolf, while Just was a legend because of his skill. Just's head lifted and his posture relaxed, returning back to its calm, normal state. He huffed a heavy sigh, then turned to look at the female. "Are you alright?" She swallowed and didn't respond at first, shaken, but then she nodded and replied, "Yes. I'm fine. Thank you." Just rumbled a nonverbal 'you're welcome.' "You're safe now," he went on. "I recommend you go straight back to your pack's camp and report to your alpha." She just nodded, heaving herself back onto her paws.
When the female was gone, he slumped into a sitting position, seeming rather exhausted -- or disappointed. At first, he didn't meet the gaze of neither Shae or Whisper.
There was a very, very lengthy silence before he said anything, but then he parted his jaws as to speak, "I'm sorry you had to see that." He still didn't meet their eyes.
