I am reading Helen Garner's Monkey Grip and loving it

It is a good review Mish but unlike you I beg people to read this book. I loved it, even though it is very confronting sometimes. Eva Hornung did an absolutely brilliant job of taking the reader inside the life of a dog pack. In this book the animals are more humane than the humans.
The only Australian book I have read this year is Mezza Italiana: An Enchanting Story about Love Family la Dolce Vita and Finding Your Place in the World
It was enjoyable but not outstanding.

Thanks Danielle and yes you’re right in saying that the animals are more humane than the human. I come to realise that more so when Romachka ventured out into the city. I was disgusted and angry at the humans by the way treated Romachka.

I am currently reading Empty Chairs: Much more than a story about child abuse by Stacey Danson and it's rivetting! I'm loving it!

I've finished Burn Bright a while ago but just reviewed it now. Mixed feeling about it being YA (reference to these pods troubled me) but really enjoyed the plot and where it was going...I will read the next book. hopefully sometime soon.

I've now read three novels by Geraldine Brooks and I know there are others here at Aussie Readers who enjoy historical fiction. Although the Caleb in Caleb's Crossing did exist (and his story is amazing) he is not the main character. That honour goes to a strong minded young woman called Bethia whose intellect struggles to find a place within her Puritan community. As always, Brooks has done some extensive research and the language used is in keeping with the era, which certainly adds to it's appeal. I would say this is a book for those who enjoy character/setting as opposed to unrelenting action.

Faye, I haven't read There Should Be More Dancing yet but I'm scheduled to read Summer At Mount Hope this month for my AA Challenge for May - Have you read it yet?

Yes, I read that a little while ago, I enjoyed it, the other book of Rosalie Ham "The Dressmaker" I really loved. "There Should Be More Dancing" I loved, I actually went to see Rosalie Ham at the local library she tells me she didn't write There should be More Dancing to be funny. But I could see some humour in it and thought it was fabulous. Happy Reading! Faye

Monkey Grip is an old book, wow, I still remember reading that from about 20 years ago. In the last couple of years I read Helen Garner's - The Spare Room, great book, sad as sad. Beautiful also.Faye
