Welcome Beth. I'm glad you joined the group, and thanks for posting in the Authors and Bloggers section.

Anne, glad you found us! You should have no trouble finding new authors - I know I've added many to my tbr.

Hi Brenda! Welcome to the group. I was a Hospice volunteer for a while and loved the experience.

Hey Stephanie! Welcome and congratulations on your book.

Hi Amanda, welcome to the group! You should find some new series here, there are many that have been mentioned in different topics and you can check our bookshelf.

Kimberly (gravy) | 13 comments Hi, my name is Kimberly and I'm from Pasadena, CA.
I got into cozy mysteries while I was recovering from surgery and it hasn't stopped. I started reading the Donut Shop Mysteries around the time I was allowed to drive again and found myself at Winchell's at two in the morning.
I'm looking forward to finding some new series and authors to get caught up in.

Hi Kimberly, welcome to the group! What happens when you read other cozy themes? That's really getting into a series. ☺

Kimberly (gravy) | 13 comments Hi Beth and jaxnsmon!
I'm a foodie by nature and find a reason to eat or make something. I read through the Coffeehouse Mysteries by Cleo Coyle and started buying whole bean coffee and a coffee grinder. Extreme, yes, but my kitchen is my favorite spot in the house. I should look for an exercise cozy series to work off all the treats. Know of a good one?

Diana Killian has a yoga cozy series, starting with Corpse Pose. I haven't read it, but keep meaning to :)

LOL, Kimberly, isn't it interesting how many food-related cozy mystery series are out there and how few exercise-related ones there are. Linda Howard wrote two mysteries that feature Blair Mallory, a health club owner, so you might want to check those out. ;-)

message 363: by Bruce (new)

Bruce Rousseau Hi, I'm Bruce and I appear to be a member of that rare breed of male cozy mystery authors.

Or maybe I'm more of a soft-boiled mystery author?

Anyway, I'm here to learn as much as I can and ask questions. I've been reading some of the threads here and it looks like a friendly group. I did notice a couple guys here. (I think they were guys.)

Okay, I'll admit I'm a bit nervous about stepping into the "cozy" corner with all you ladies. But I'm really looking forward to an education about this sub-genre, and this seems like the best place to learn what cozy really means.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Hello - I'm Jennifer and I've been lurking for a few months. I'm a Yank living in Australia for 5 years now. I'm a huge reader of cozy mysteries and I'm looking forward to participating here.

Bruce and Mark - I found a list of cozies aimed towards men that shows there are male cozy writers as well as male readers :)

message 368: by Mark (new)

Mark Baker (carstairs38) | 1278 comments I know they exist, and readers like me exist. They just aren't as plentiful as women.

Cynthia (cindy_bee) | 5 comments Hi, my name is Cindy. I live in Montana and sell books for a living. While I enjoyed some of Agatha Christie's works when I was younger, I'd never known how vast the world of cozies was until recently. Now, I can't get enough and spend my time trying to figure out which to read next.

I'm so grateful to have GR to browse titles and read the recommendations!

Deanna (dlbell208) | 4 comments Hi, my name is Deanna and I live in New Jersey. My mom was a big mystery reader and she's the one who introduced me to cozy mysteries. I made a New Year's resolution to read more and have joined a couple of groups here on GR. I hope that I can keep up with all of them, but have a feeling this is the reading that will get done first!

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) **waves to Barb,Jaxnsmom,Paulette and Chaitra**

Hi everyone!!! I see some familar faces here and want to say thanks to Barb for sending me here. My name is Robin and I live in Nebraska. I love reading but have never read any cozy mysteries. I have a few sitting on my shelves but have not been brave enough to try them because I don't like anything scarey, gory, or violent LOL I read a variety of genres and still branching out to try even more. I like to try to read a wide variety of genres/books as it helps to keep me from getting into a reading slump ☺

After seeing the cozy mysteries mentioned in other groups, I finally broke down and asked Barb about them and she gave me an explaination and led me here. I have seen and really like the themes of some of them like the crochet, knitting, library, bookstore series and would really like to give them a try and learn more about the genre ☺

I'm looking forward to reading my first cozy mystery and chatting with all of you here in the group!!!!

*waving back to Robin *

The lack of gore, violence and 'scare' is one of the things I like so much about cozies :) One of my new favorite series right now is Jenn McKinlay's Library Lovers series; the first book is Books Can Be Deceiving. It's a fairly new series, so if you start it now, you won't be *too far behind :)

Since I'm avoiding the "physical" library I will have to see if I can get it as an ebook/audiobook from Overdrive ☺ I think I will like the cozy mysteries that are "themed" Thanks again Barb for all your help!!!

Hey Robin! Good to see you here. I'm supposed to be avoiding the library too. I had to drop off some books at one, and only bought two books! I have three holds in at another one, but I just called and arranged to pick them up and drop off some books at the drive-thru window. Thank goodness for that window! It has saved me many times.

I think you'll find we all agree for the most part on the definition of a cozy, but we also have our differences.

message 381: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Hi Jax!!!!I'm doing pretty good so far about avoiding the library ☺ I don't have any holds except with Overdrive. I do still have some library books that will be due closer to the end of the month so when all those get read and go back I will be done with the library for a little while. I didn't ban myself from Overdrive because I have a smaller limit there and if there is a book that I "THINK I HAVE TO HAVE" I can try to get it from there. I don't tend to borrow or look as much on Overdrive as I do the physical library because there's other sites, like this one, that I would rather be looking at than Overdrive LOL

Just like the romance genre, for the most part romance readers agree on the definition, the discrepancies usually are debated about whether or not there is an HEA. I am just lurking around the site, getting some ideas about series and what to read and I'm going to give them a whirl and see what I think ☺ Right now from the sounds of the themes, series names, and book titles I'm really going to like them!!!

Hi Again Melissa, Yes I go to the library and I also get some books from a place called Half Price Books, they buy and sell so I will take some that I don't want and get money for them or buy other books. I love my town library. I hadn't gone in years and then a few years ago I got a card again and have been going ever since. There are just a few people I like to buy the books from though. Like Evanovich and Denise Swanson. Otherwise I go to the library. Thanks for the hints though. Oh yeah Goodwill is a great place to find books too.

Nancy, does your library have a sale corner? All the branches of mine do, and once a year they have a huge sale along with the WV Book Festival. I've gotten a lot of books that way.

There are some church-affiliated thrift stores that havea great selection too.
