message 667: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicolethecozybookworm) | 20 comments I've joined the group a little while ago, but finally had the change to properly introduce myself. I'm Nicole, 26 years old and I'm from The Netherlands. By accident I stumbled across the Cozy Mystery genre and I more than love it!

I think I was still searching for that one genre I'd really love and I noticed mysteries were already in my corner, but with the Cozy ones, that just hits is! I also love to ready biographies, true event based books (like on world war 2) and history books.

I've been reading ever since I was a little girl and books were the greatest gift one could give. At one point the reading got pushed to a place in the back of my life due to various reasons, but now I'm picking it up again! I just love to read.

Ginny Sue | 1 comments HI! My name is Ginny Sue and I love reading cozy mysteries. We retired back in Sept. 2010 and moved from Sacramento, CA to Mineral Ridge, OH and the long cold winters have turned me into a reader more then I've ever been. I have loved reading all of Laura Childs Tea Shop Mysteries and all of Melanie O'Hare's Traveling Tea Ladies. I am enjoying seeing what others are reading and my To Read list is growing! I'm looking forward to making new friends and hearing about different authors.

message 677: by Susan (last edited Feb 07, 2014 08:35AM) (new)

Susan (susansolo) | 9 comments Hi! My name is Susan. I live in Southern California - a transplant from Chicago, Illinois. I'm a 5th grade teacher. My husband and I are empty nesters, but our two kids live close by. We had our first grandchild (daughter) in September! I've been an avid reader since childhood and love helping to spread the passion to my 5th grade students. Cozy mysteries are my favorite fun read. I look forward to reading and sharing with others that enjoy them too.

Hi Ginny Sue and Susan! Welcome to the group! Hopefully we'll all be able to share new books with each other. That's funny how Ginny Sue left CA for a cold winter place, and Susan left a cold winter place for CA :)

message 679: by Moondance (new)

Moondance (moondance120) | 20 comments Hi, my name is Cheryl and I live in NC. I work with a pediatric craniofacial surgeon and spend a lot of time in the OR. Reading is my escape. I belong to several groups and enjoy challenges. In addition to cozies I read paranormal/urban fantasy. Actually I will read pretty much anything!

message 680: by Scott (new)

Scott (dodger1379) Hi I'm Scott from upstate NY. I read almost every genre of book out there but my two favorite are fantasy and cozies (weird mix, I know).
Grew up on Agatha Christie and moved on to authors like...
Carolyn Hart
M.C. Beaton
Lorna Barrett

I love cozies but I'm not a big fan of themed cozy mysteries (cats, dogs, tea, baking etc. etc.) - looking for some recommendations.

I like great characters (Lorna Barrett, M.C. Beaton) and I like a puzzle to figure out (Agatha Christie).

Anyway - hello and looking forward to talking with everyone about books.

message 681: by Randee (new)

Randee Baty Carolyn Hart and M.C. Beaton are two of my favorites also. It's just a natural progression from Agatha Christie to writers like them I guess!

James Catron | 6 comments Hi, I am Jim from Jax, Fl.
I have recently become a big fan of Amish mysteries from authors Amanda Flower, Vanetta Chapman and Shelley Shepard Gray.
I also am a big fan of Carolyn Hart and some other authors whose books are set in the south.
I am interested in finding some good British cozy authors. I look forward to seeing the recommendations of fellow cozy mystery lovers.

Welcome Scott! I hope we can help you find some great characters.

Have you read Alan Bradley's Flavia de Luce series? She may be young (preteen), but she's not your typical kid, she's quite a character.

I think Earlene Fowler's Benni Harper series is more character driven than themed.

And there's the Mrs. Pollifax series, by Dorothy Gilman.

Milovesme (keytiin) | 1 comments Hello, my name is Chrystine from Indonesia. I started to read mystery in junior high school when I read Agatha Christie's and Conan Doyle's and directly fell in love with the genre. Then I continue to read Mary Higgins Clark's. I also love Meg Cabot's Heather's series

Hi Lynda, welcome to the group! There are so many wonderful cozy series to discover, I don't think you'll have a problem finding some favorites. How is your access to books there? I know some Australians have trouble finding certain books, or the cost is crazy.

Lynda and Jennifer I love reading cozies that are set in different areas and give the reader a feel for that location. I am currently reading and enjoying British author M.C. Beaton at the suggestion of people on this site. Do you have any suggestions for Aussie cozies.

Kerry Greenwood. She writes two series set in Melbourne; one modern day and one that takes place in 1928-29. I love the second one, and I know quite a few that are fans of the first one. Both very well researched and describe Melbourne well.
