Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments I'm on page 203. It is getting more interesting for me. Kind of scary and creepy. Hadn't even thought of the Frankenstein angle, that is a good theory. I wonder if it has to do with the droid, maybe? Some kind of cyborg? Why would the person want damaged, dying organs?

message 302: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I got hooked last night. Once the stuff started to hit the fan with Bowers I couldn't put it down. There were some great emotional moments. Poor Summerset when Eve apologized to him instead of insulting him. You can really see how he's come to care for her, and has established his own way of taking care of her. Like earlier in the book when he accused her of affecting how he runs the household by not letting him know she wouldn't be home for dinner because he knew she would then make a point of eating just to spite him. While if he hadn't said anything, she probably would have totally forgotten to eat a decent meal.

I like seeing how all of her friends are rallying around Eve and how she's finally learning to accept their support.

I'm still not sure which of the doctors is in on the crimes and what they are really up to. Maybe harvesting damages organs to test an experimental means of repairing them? And I'm wondering if Trueheart is too good to be true. He seems to know a lot about the sleepers on his beat. Granted, that could be because he's a good cop who gets to know his people. Or it could be something more sinister and he was in on manipulating Bowers.

I've only got about fifty pages left, so I should finish this evening.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments I'm on page 230 and should finish it soon. I really like this one though I have no idea what's going on. I like how Rourke handled everything that went on and I loved that her friends were so "there" for her. That Mavis wouldn't go away. I like how Eve has rebounded and she and Rourke seem to have taken another step in their relationship. She was still pretty guarded with him. As to the mystery, I'm completely stumped as to what is going on - but I like the Frankenstein idea. The Droid freaked me out - didn't know they could do that.

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments @Christine - I love Trueheart...he continues to appear in later books...another character that she does a good job developing over several books, just like Peabody and McNabb

I guess this means I can stop being suspicious of Trueheart. Phew!

message 306: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I loved some of the little moments between Eve and Roarke. When he took her out to build snowmen instead of jetting off to Mexico, because it was something so "normal" that neither of them had ever done. Then they had an exchange where he says something like "I made myself other, but you made me more" and then she says "How did I ever get through a day before you?" It's those sweet little moments that show you how comfortable they are becoming with one another. Eve's still got her guard up, but she's letting it down more and more with Roarke.

And poor McNabb mooning over She-body. They crack me up.

message 307: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments think of Trueheart as Peabody 2.0

message 308: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments Yes, Christine. It feels like this book has more of those emotional moments and less of the sex every 2 seconds (not that I mind the sex!). It just feels like this has one has a different tone to it. And the mystery is more difficult to figure out. I also like the Dr. at the clinic but feel that there is something going on there. Something to do with everyone wearing their pin that night at the Drake function.

message 309: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments I am on page 305 with three chapters left. This definitely got a lot better for me once Bowers was murdered and Eve lost her badge. I loved how all her friends came over right away to help her in their own ways. Even Nadine was doing what she could to help. Still don't understand about the damaged organs. Going to finish it soon.

message 310: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments Okay all done. Four stars for me and once again Lieutenant Dallas gets her man.

message 311: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I finished it last night. This one started out a little slow for me too, but it really picked up once Bowers went psycho and Eve had her badge taken away. The mystery was okay, but what I really liked were the emotional moments between Eve and Roarke and Eve and all of her friends. It was great at the end when she got her badge back and Roarke started calling her Lieutenant again.

I do wonder if/when Eve will start to think about looking into her past and trying to find out about her mother and the identity she was born with. She's defined herself as Eve Dallas, Police Lieutenant and so far doesn't seem to care about who she was. But now that she's becoming more comfortable in her life with Roarke and her friendships I wonder if she'll start to wonder about her past.

On thing that did strike me as interesting in this book was when they were talking about the uproar over Eve being relieved of duty and all the people that jumped to her defense. Including Jaime, that kid who killed a guy at the end of that other book. It struck me as ironic that they brought up the kid from the one case where we know Eve lied about what happened to cover for him when we're trying to prove what a great and honest cop she is. We've seen her let Roarke bend the rules a little in the past to help her, so why was she waffling about it this time? Still it was nice to see all the people that were willing to stick up for her when she had always seen herself as so alone.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments I am super slow...just starting Conspiracy in Death. All my traveling this month has put a damper on my reading. But now that I've started this - I want to beat Officer Bowers right along with Peabody! I loved her reaction to the complaint :)

message 313: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments I'm about half way through this. Officer Bowers just got killed. I kind of think Dr. Cagney has something to do with the murders since all the victims in NYC have been patients at his niece's facility. I could be wrong though LOL I loved the snowman scene with Eve and Roarke :)

message 314: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments Finished this morning! I like the way Eve and Roarke's relationship is growing, but I have to say, I do not like the violent sex they have. All the biting, scratching, practically beating each other up. That does nothing for me and I just can't see how that would even get someone excited for sex.

The mystery was good. I had no clue which doctor was the one in charge of the operation. It's sad and scary that they were all in on it in some way or another.

message 315: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I'm with you on the violent sex, but I suppose different strokes for different folks. I loved the snowman making scene. It went from so tender and sweet to down right hysterical. Leave it to Roarke to make an anatomically correct snow-woman!

I loved Peabody's reaction to Bowers in this one AND I'm still waiting her to finally get it on with McNabb. Poor man has it bad and she seems oblivious.

But the whole thing of Eve losing her badge and being so devastated by it all was just heart wrenching. But it was so good to see how her friends and colleagues all rallied behind her and how she's finally learning to lean on them and accept their help.

The mystery on this one kept me guessing, too. I couldn't decide who to trust and who was the bad guy. I was so afraid the Trueheart and the doctor from the clinic (who's name I've already forgotten) were going to turn out to be in on it. I'm so glad they weren't.

Less than two weeks to the next one!

message 316: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I finally got around to reading that short, Midnight in Death. It was cute, but too short! I like spending more time with my characters.

message 317: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments I read the short as well and completely agree. Most shorts that authors write make me feel slightly annoyed. I don't like short books!

message 318: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments I'm looking forward to the next one! I'm not traveling this month (thank heavens LOL), so I'll be able to read it on time ;)

message 319: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I'm waiting for McNabb to finally make his move on She-body!

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments Loyalty in Death today!!!

message 322: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments I probably won't be able to start until tomorrow - so sad. I have something else I have to read first. I'm so excited to get back to Eve and Rourke, though!

message 323: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments I'm not starting until tomorrow, I need to finish my current book :) like Leslie, I'm excited to get back to Eve and Roarke :)

message 324: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I'm hoping to get to it tonight, but I don't know if that will happen. I'm looking forward to this one, too. I read some awesome books the fist week of the month, but the past week's books have been just so-so. Looking forward to something comfortable and familiar that I know I'll enjoy.

message 325: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments I started it. I am on page 99. I will wait for you guys to catch up before commenting. It is exciting to get back to Eve, Roarke and She-body. I've missed them.

message 326: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments I've had two long books (900 pages) this month and alot of historical fiction. I'm really happy for some murder, mayhem and good sex!

message 327: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I'm still trying to finish The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett. It's humorous at times, but the overall writing isn't doing a lot for me. Can't wait to get back to Eve and Roarke.

Leslie, Not just one chunkster, but two? Wow! I guess I shouldn't be as impressed as I was with my 600 page book (which is taking me forever).

message 328: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments Leslie wrote: " I'm really happy for some murder, mayhem and good sex!"

LOL! Typical Sunday night at your house?

message 329: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments I am on page 298! Getting exciting!

message 330: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments You're blowing right through this one, Kami! I'm finally ready to start it, but given the late hour I doubt I'll get far. But I'm so glad to finally be getting back to Eve and the Gang.

message 331: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I'm up to page 65. I love that we're getting to meet someone from Peabody's family. And I'm with Eve. I don't like coincidences either. I'm really enjoying it so far.

I loved McNabb's response when Peabody walked into Eve's office and asked McNabb what he wanted.

message 332: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments LOL, Christine!! And I loved what McNabb said about what he wanted. Cracked me up!!
I'm on page 39. I hoped to be further along but my oldest daughter was flying back home to California this morning and we all watched a movie together (with her 2 other sisters!)last night. She had never seen Thor, so I forced myself to watch it, AGAIN!
I love getting to know Peabody's brother and I'm really interested to see where we are going with this one.

message 333: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments p76, I just laughed out loud! Roarke is turned on by Eve's "outfit". When she catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror she says "Men are weird.". To which he answers (view spoiler)

That just cracked me up for some reason.

message 334: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments I finally started this today! I've met Peabody's brother. I'm interested to see how he fits in. I should have about another hour of uninterrupted reading time :)

message 335: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments I'm done. Loved it. Four stars for me. The interaction between Peabody and her brother is very sweet. I thought it was funny how he was reading Eve's aura and Peabody said he wasn't supposed to without her permission. "She's strong, with dark places." "And what did Mom tell you about peeking at auras without consent?"

message 336: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments I'm on page 131 and I really like this one. I like the extra people we are getting to know and I love McNabb! The mystery is interesting as well.

message 337: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments Page 94, love Peabody getting Roarke to kiss her boo-boo! She cracks me up drooling over Roarke.

And I can totally sympathize with Eve when Roarke is explaining Greek mythology and she asks him "How do you know all this shit?" I often find myself turning to my husband and asking "Why do you even know that?" Darn smart men!

message 338: by Christine (last edited Jul 18, 2012 07:32AM) (new)

Christine | 955 comments I'm up to about p124. I'm enjoying this one a lot. So many moments have had me laughing out loud. I just adore Peabody. And I still haven't figured out the mystery...

I'm concerned about Zeke's obsession with...rats...I don't remember anyone's name! The woman who hired him. Clarissa? I keep finding myself confused between the brother's wife, the lawyer, and the lover who killed him with the drill. (view spoiler)

message 339: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments Just finished! I loved this one and gave it 5 stars. I began to suspect who was involved in this one but never worked it all out. I loved all the different storylines going on- can I just say McNabb!!

Gosh! I have to get reading, I want more McNab! I'm just starting ch 8.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments You will love it, Susan!

message 342: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments McNab! McNab! McNab! Oh how I wish I were reading....

message 343: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments "Holy Mary McGuire. We'll all just pretend I didn't see that. I didn't see a goddamn thing. I've just now this second walked into this room. Is that understood?"

LOL! Poor Feeney.

message 345: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments I've spent the day entertaining my visiting sister-in-law and sewing a dress for my granddaughter to take pictures in next week. Thankfully, every one is gone now and I have the rest of the night to read. I might come close to finishing this tonight since I'm at 38%.

message 346: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments OMG!! I just got to where Feeney said that!! It's about time!! :)

message 347: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments I just finished! It went on my favorites shelf! I love that Eve showed so much emotion in this book. And I couldn't help but love Peabody and McNab!! I want so much more from them LOL

message 348: by Christine (new)

Christine | 955 comments I've only made it to page 210. I don't trust Clarissa. It's a little too convenient that Zeke overheard her fight with her husband, but her husband just happened to be gone before Zeke got to the room. And I have a hard time buying that she's really interested in him, versus she's using him for something. Perhaps I'm cynical, but it is a mystery full of nasty people.....

I so hope I have time to finish this tonight.

message 349: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments Christine, you are always way more clever than me about solving the mystery, but I was suspicious of Clarissa from the start as well. She was just too perfect a victim. Keep reading!

And Susan, I told you you would be happy about McNabb! Wasn't it just perfect. I agree with you, this one definitely had more emotion in it than previous. I liked seeing Rourke get mad at her - made him a little more human.

message 350: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments Yes, Roarke getting mad at her was good and did make him more human.

Christine, you're one smart lady. I rarely ever figure out the mystery before hand.
