Rebecca After a few recommendations from others, I've narrowed down a list of books that I am planning on reading, which one should I/ or would you start first?

the mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson
Mistborn: The Final Empire

the stormlight archive series by Brandon Sanderson
The Way of Kings

the night angel series by Brent Weeks
The Way of Shadows

the demon cycle series by Peter Brett
The Warded Man

Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series by Tad Williams
The Dragonbone Chair

Wars of Light and Shadow by Janny Wurts
The Curse of the Mistwraith

Malazan series by Steven Erikson
Gardens of the Moon

which one would you start first? or if you have an even better recommendation, dont hesitate to tell me! :)

Samantha | 69 comments Williams' 'Memory, Sorrow and Thorn' trilogy! It's just so wonderful. Exciting, great world building, wonderful cast of characters.

Secondly, the Mistborn trilogy - superfun, and Sanderson's created the most excellent magic system. Highly engaging, wonderful world building, super fast reads. An.. unusual ending that will likely surprise you. Heh.

If you like Sanderson's style, then move on to Way of Kings, which is BRILLIANT, but very large. Plus its the first in a series of which the rest aren't out yet. So that's something to consider.

Still it's a super great book and should be read at some point. :)

whimsicalmeerkat I loved Gardens of the Moon

Kim | 1499 comments The Malazan series is very big and complex. Be prepared if you want to go into it.

The first in the Mistborn series was pretty good but very allegorical and I lost all interest in continuing it.

The Way of Kings was awesome but as Samantha said is pretty hefty plus only book 1 is out.

The Night Angel series was a lot of fun. There is also The Black Prism, the first in the Lightbringer series also by Brent Week. Was a pretty good book.

The Demon Cycle is very good. Very eagerly waiting for the third book.

Haven't read the other two.

Stan (lendondain) | 168 comments I loved the Mistborn series, but the Malazan series is, hands down, the best thing I've ever read. So you might want to save that for last since nothing else will ever be able to top it.

Jack Jr. | 2 comments Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author right now, and he gets better with every book that he writes. That said, The way of Kings is the book I would recommend to anyone. It is by far his greatest book yet, and it has a depth that I have rarely seen in any author since Robert Jordan passed. He is a sculptor of words like few I have ever read. So my vote is for "The Way of Kings"!!!

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 1894 comments I completely 2nd Jack's statement, with the caveat that I haven't read any Robert Jordan yet, to compare.

However, I am reading The Way of Kings right now, and I am completely in love with it. I absolutely loved Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy as well.

I heard a lot of really great stuff about the Night Angel series... but I was bored and kind of uninterested by it, and abandoned it unfinished. =\

Stan (lendondain) | 168 comments Sanderson is pretty good, but anyone who calls Robert Jordan a "sculptor of words" needs to read some better stuff.

Mike (mikespencer) | 75 comments I really loved Mistborn. The whole trilogy was great. But I just read The Way of Shadows and it was really good and a very quick read, despite it's length. I think I probably liked Mistborn better (better characters, magic system), but I actually read The Way of Shadows quicker and now I'm cruising through Shadow's Edge.

Unfortunately, I haven't read the others so I can't comment on them.

Stan (lendondain) | 168 comments BTW, Michael, you should consider adding Glen Cook's Black Company series to your list.

My reference was to Brandon Sanderson being a sculptor of words, not Robert Jordon. However, I do have a tremendous amount of respect for Robert Jordan, and I do love the way he writes. Brandon Sanderson is much better, but he can write disturbingly like Jordan when he tries.

Trike The only one of that list I've read is The Warded Man and it is pure awesome.
