A Discovery of Witches
question
Whats with the ending?

Ok I admit I am not a literary genius. I read books for the pure pleasure of it. But I am confused with this ending. Anybody else out there confused as well? I think I have pieced it together but am angry that I had to work so hard to figure out the ending of this very entertaining book. Loved it till the end.

I think it was just trying to set things up for the next book in the series- answer some questions, pose some more, keep you interested... Still, I was aggrivated when I got to the ending because I didn't realize it was a series when I first read it!

Yea the second book is out in the summer of next year I believe. So no buzz quite yet as this year is ending. But yea it was pretty much setting up for the next book. Pretty much letting readers know that they resolved as much as they could but there is still more adventures to come kind of thing.
I agree it must be a prelude to the next book, but it's taking so long for the next book to come out, some will have to reread, just to remember critital details.

Yes, Deb was setting it up for the next book of the trilogy which will be released in July. She has been working very hard to put out the best book possible. If you visit her Facebook page, you will find much more information about ADoW as well as the upcoming Shadow of Night. Many of us have dug further into the "easter eggs" hidden in the story as well. Deb has also shared music, places, etc. that have influenced the story. There is also a jewelry line coming out and there is a sample picture of "Matthew's Ampulla". The jeweler is working on "Ysabeau's Ring" as well. The trilogy has also been optioned by Warner Brothers. Possible movies are in the works.

I was aggravated also - I must say. I had no idea the book was a series. I might have waited to have all the books in hand before I began the first one.
I was extremely upset when I got to the end of the book, and really it wasn't really THE END. She set up some pretty big plots (a potential world war?) and I kept thinking, "How is she going to resolve this?" Toward the end of the book, I started thinking, "How is she going to resolve this in so few pages?" And the answer was that she wasn't... I agree with others that I wish I had known it was a series before I started reading it. I might not have read it so feverishly, trying to find out how it all ended. And I wouldn't have been so disappointed. Still, I will defintely read the next book in the series.
