I think we have a glitch ere.... 3rd time lucky?Nope :)
Jus started reading "Shield of Thunder" by David Gemmil, I would link it but.... :)
Frazzled after tonight's Lionheart attempt, I'm in the mood for Bull Running for Girls. I won an ebook for review.
I just finished The White Queen. It was pretty good! I wish, however there were less magic and witchcraft, but hey, it goes with the era. I digress, it is worth reading.
Some past poll losers in in my currently read books.Pure; The Silver Pigs: A Marcus Didius Falco Novel; Child of Vengeance
Into about 100 pages of Master and Commander but I start skimming it now.
And finally getting library copy of The Road to Jerusalem: Book One of the Crusades Trilogy.

Oh good I'm not alone ;)
Started last night Roman Wall by Bryher. It's different from other things I've read, mostly character studies of various Romans and Helvetians fleeing from onslaught of Alemanni tribe in Helvetia and their reactions. 265 AD. Beautiful desriptions of the Swiss landscape.Sorry the add book/author feature does not work, among many other things on GR

I'll be interested to see if you like The Silver Pigs, Lia. My library has that one, so I may give it a try myself.
Cool. add book/author is working for me now.

That's great to see the polls and group reads inspiring reading lists. :)
they do, really.it's a big help to discover new authors and books, that often are very good but for some motive don't seem appealing when we find them for ourselves (the cover? we scroll the wrong page..?).
and it's a bit like opening a gift each month. a very nice feeling.
When I first started doing the group reads polls - back in the day - I was amazed at how many books are in the genre that I never noticed.I certainly have discovered hundreds of books since this group began. I shake my head at the thought of all these books I would never have read or noticed if I hadn't been involved in this group.

Polls and group reads are extremely helpfull in weeding out the undesirable books that disguised themself as Historical Fiction. It made wondering around the library's/bookstore's shelves reading back covers more enjoyable. :)

I was basically clueless about modern HF, before joining this group. I remember in my original meet & greet post that I mentioned James Clavell, and James A. Michener as my favorite HF authors(both of which I still love), but I had no idea what was really out there. Don't mean to sound all cheesy, but this group has opened so many doors for me. It's the main reason I'm here on GR.

Now reading The Cigar MakerVery interesting story set around the cigar industry in Tampa, so local history for me. Not a word about the roaming flocks of feral chickens... lol

And you're here to stay I hope. :)
I'm still cruising along on my military non fiction.Deciding not to continue reading Lionheart really cleared my schedule this month and I may take all month to read my 'current read'.
Exit Wounds - One Australian's War On Terror

If you're interviewing Mr. Forrester/Mortimer, please ask him why Clarenceux didn't follow Alice all the way. (You'll know what this means by the end of the book.) It's driving me crazy!
Am reading now: Sword of Rome by Douglas Jackson and really enjoying everything except the unpleasant leading lady.
I've ordered
Stormbird from the library for reading over the Christmas holiday. I ended up with an extra 2 days off with no extra plans so I thought an extra book or two wouldn't be a bad idea!
A Choice Of Murder / Peter Vansittartjust begun. Good so far, but style will take getting used to. Timoleon of Syracuse.
Finished another Agatha Christie book, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and started the next one The Moving Finger. Picked up
Artemis,
The Blood of Alexandria and
The Color of Death from the library today.

Same here, I'll have my copy next week and I'll start it next weekend. :)

We can all discuss it in the War of the Roses thread if you guys like?? https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Yes, I do. I've read
The Songs of the Kings and
Morality Play and liked them both. This one's interesting; I've never read anything on the Norman Kingdom of Sicily before.
Sherry wrote: "If you're interviewing Mr. Forrester/Mortimer, please ask him why Clarenceux didn't follow Alice all the way."I did finish it—and on the whole I liked it, despite having more reservations than with books 1 and 2. I think I have an answer for you, although I have to be careful how to phrase it to avoid spoilers.
Clarenceux expected Alice to be found. In fact, he was counting on it. He wanted to avoid being found himself. But more fundamentally, any other outcome would not have conferred the finality promised in the title....
I actually found the ending very satisfying. It was the fate of Sarah Cowie that made me gag.

That it'd be great thanks Dawn. This is my first iggulden book, and my first on that era. I'm afraid I may be a bit behind, just trying to keep up with who is who. So don't fear Andy you will still probably finish before me! :)
I've read the first two of his Rome series, The Gates of Rome & The Death of Kings and wasn't a big fan but I've heard his other series is better so I'm giving this one a chance.
As usual, I've bitten off more than I can chew, especially for this holiday time of the year. I have 3 books going, each quite different. One, The Goldfinch, is recorded so I'm listening on my iPod
, Another
Bill Bryson's One Summer is a social history of the year 1927 I've downloaded to my Kindle and my third book is a thriller, White Fire
is an actual book from the library. I do this… because I like having more than one book going at a time to suit my mood and circumstance. But it's feeling kind of foolish right now. I'm not a fast reader and the recorded book is a really long one. At least each is quite different from the others, so there's no confusion.

I'll be looking for your thoughts on this one, Jane. I have my eye on it.
Would love to see what you think of it in the Norman thread too, https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... if you would like to share there as there are not many around set where that one is set.
