The Giver and Matched. Coincidence?

If you put those two books side by side you'll notice that they both have a very similar context. Both include memory-erasing pills and about a society that is "optimal for success". And most importantly about a grandfather that starts an inner revolution. What do you think?

I really don`t think that it`s a coincidence. It`s good that a book has a similar but maybe better book written after it.

I think Matched was probably modeled after The Giver with more of a romantic spin on it. But it's an interesting coincidence, one you can't notice right off. I think that's what makes a good reinterpretation...well, good(:
