Kim How is this series? I just finished Night huntress and loved it.
Cant decide between Argeneau series, Mercy Thompson, or the Hollows series.

Any thoughts??

marie I really like the three I read so far in this series. Thought first was great.

message 3: by Dee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dee i've only read the first two argeneau - they are much lighter than Night Huntress and true romance with a different couple each book. Haven't read the Hollows, but Mercy Thompson is good - it is similar to NH in that it is the same main characters thoughout - but it does have a bit of a love triangle theme, that I don't remember NH having

Melissa Laird I have read all the Argeneau series and I thought they were good I also liked the Mercy Thompson Series I read most of the Hollows series and I didn't like it but i would recommend the Argeneau and the Mercy Thompson series they are both good also the Alpha and Omega series that is a spin off of Mercy

Ashley I liked both the Mercy Thompson and Hollow's Series, I prefer the Hollows to Mercy Thompson, but enjoyed both. I think I liked the Hollows because it had a Dystopian sort of feel, like The Downside Series I just fell in love with Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane. The Argeneau was more romance oriented while the other two Hollows, and Mercy Thompson are more actiony, that doesn't mean they don't have romance, just more of a world story then straight romance like Argeneau. I also highly suggest the Shifters Series by Rachel Vincent.

Tracey Smith I've read all of the Argeneau books, and love them! I also really enjoyed the Night Huntress sereies, but they are completely different types of books. As others have said the Argeneau books are more romance focused, no gory fights or badass chicks. The vampires are actually immortals, with a history dating back to Atlantis and a scientific explanation for their immortal state. They do have to drink blood, but most drink bagged blood. The main premise of each book is that each immortal has a "life-mate" and so as they find their life mates who are often mortals, they have to explain what they are, what life mates are, and try to get the person to be willing to be turned so they can spend eternity together. There is always some sort of back story going on, some action, and the back stories carry over and overlap from one book to the next. Each book is a different couple, but they are all connected in some way so that characters from previous books are present in each. The sex is hot. The romance is sweet. The character development is great. And there is a lot of humor in the writing. I would definitely recommend this series. Just know that they are definitely a lighter approach than NH.

April Mellinger This was on of the first paranormal series I read and I LOVE them all....May favorite couple is Thomas and Inez from Vampires Are Forever, but they are all terrific.

Ashley Smith I have read all the mercy thompson sereis and loved them. I'm about half way through the hollows seris and like it the argeneau seris is good but a little repetative. If you read one than the others are all about the same. It's a good read but read the other two first and possibly even the alpha and omega series before th argeneau series.

Tracey Smith So I'm curious Kim based on this info did u decide to read this series?

Kim Yes! I am on book 3. I really like them and you are right they are do different the night huntress ... both good in there own way.
Thanks for the advice/comment... its why I decided to read the series.
:)
Ill read mercy and hollows nxt ....
what are you reading now?

Tracey Smith Thinking about starting Storm's Heart (Elder Races, #2) by Thea Harrison really loved Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison ! I'm also a writer and I just released my second book so I haven't had much time for reading lately. But looking forward to getting back into it :)

I started Argeneau... Its good. I will read Mercy and the hollows next! Good to know you liked them. I never know what to read after I finish a series ..

Cadence Michaels I've read 14 books so far. I am so obsessed with this series. I love the authors take on vampires. It could happen, medical nono's making people live longer, though I wont hold my bresth.

Missyb The Argeneau's are more like Night Huntress as far as the sex and attraction between the characters and some of the action. The Mercedes Thomspson series is good, has more of the Indian folklore involved in it and not any sex (a few books it's implied). The Hollows is good and deals more with Magick. It's basically about Rachel Morgan and her friends, and the sex is implied.

Argeneau - vamps

Hollows - witches, vamps (Ivy is in all the books & sometimes she's basically the only vamp in the book), pixies, fairies (a few books), wolfs, elf, demons.

Mercedes Thompson - coyote, wolfs, vamps (in some books but not all of them).

Kerrlyn Sparks Love at Stakes series is similiar to the Argeneau series, but it also has some shifters in it.

The issue that they're just like us with a few differences makes for some funny situations. EX - The wedding and she catches them in the van eating (drinking blood) and thinks they're smoking pot made me laugh so hard. The Argenaue's make me laugh so much.

Cadence Michaels O.M.G. So true. I laughed at that scene to. It was too funny.
I didn't care for this book though. It was alright, though sort of weak. I did like when the girls kept coming in the bedroom asking him to help her and his incredulous, shock.
I wish the action at the end had been a bit better..

Cynthia I loved the Argeneau series! I didn't really care for Kim Harrison's series. I haven't read the Mercy T. books yet.

Cadence Michaels Cynthia wrote: "I loved the Argeneau series! I didn't really care for Kim Harrison's series. I haven't read the Mercy T. books yet."

Hmmm, I have never heard of this author or the Mercy T. books. She is a vampire book writer as well?

Kim Does the hollows series have any romance?

Emily Woods they are great!!!!!!!!!! my favorite is love bites. it was what first made me start reading alot more but they are all great!

Paula Hardin I so love her writing, the sense of humor is so funny to read. It keeps me coming back for more adventures within the vampire world.

Brenda Haven Have read all of the Argeneau books. Loved them. Haven't read either of the other two series.

Paula Hardin Neither have I... grins.. I'm a paranormal fan. hehehehe..

Missyb Kim wrote: "Does the hollows series have any romance?"

The Hollows (Rachel Morgan) is not full of romance. It's about a witch, a vampire, and a pixie that live in a church together and are sort of like bounty hunters/collections agency/ police advisors. Plenty of laughs, action, not a whole lot of romance, no sex (it's kind of implied in a few books, or is talked about). There are also wolfs, demons, witches, low & high vampires (a ranking of sorts), fairies, elfs.

Paula Hardin Sort of sounds like the tv show being human.. Love that show. hahaha..

Missyb Paula wrote: "I so love her writing, the sense of humor is so funny to read. It keeps me coming back for more adventures within the vampire world."

The humor is what made me start reading. I used to only read the newspaper and a few magazines, then I borrowed the Accidental Vampire from my Mom and couldn't get enough Argeneau. Lucern's book (Single White Vampire) was great. Between his cod piece getting stuck to the tablecloth, being pissed at Buffy for killing those vamps, his very very short return answers to her letters, I laughed so hard with this book. Lissiana's book (A Quick Bite) where Greg wakes up and likes what he sees then comes across Thomas in his Spidey pj's was also a very funny moment. The humor is so great in this series.

Paula Hardin Yes, I do love her work. I like how they don't eat, then when they find your mate, it's all out eating buffet.. hahahahaha

Missyb Paula wrote: "Yes, I do love her work. I like how they don't eat, then when they find your mate, it's all out eating buffet.. hahahahaha"

The eating, the dreams, the passing out during sex. Lots & lots of laughs.
The Accidental Vampire when they all pile into the car and she tells him he's driving like an old man, which he is. I could picture the guys in the kitchen baking pies, grocery shopping, the shed catching on fire and the guys laughing at poor Victor because of the birdbath, the iguana.

I can't wait for Christian's book next month. I hope the twins are in it.

Paula Hardin Omg yes.. how funny hahaha laughing just thinking about it. I want to write funny, but.. not sure if it's possible. hahahahaha

Tabby The first one of the series I read (because at the time I had never heard of the series) was Bite Me If You Can. Old, old, OLD, grumpy Lucien having to buy BOOKS on how to romance a woman...and they ended up all being sort of "how to please her (in the bedroom)" books! That was the greatest! And trying to feed Leigh Alpo? Not knowing how to work Marguerite's phone? Being a REALLY grumpy ''backseat driver''? This book was just priceless to me! It's the one that got me looking for (and reading) the rest of the series. Also, along with Vampires Are Forever, it's my favorite of the series. Can't wait for the latest addition! Oh and the other two series mentioned in this post? I tried, but could never get into either one of them. If you haven't already, I recommend trying Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series and Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series. Oh, and definitely J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. All three series are sexy, paranormal, funny, and all have plenty of action (sexual and otherwise *LOL*). I think you would really like them.

Paula Hardin Thank you Tabby for all the info, and Good morning to you.

Missyb Tabby wrote: "The first one of the series I read (because at the time I had never heard of the series) was Bite Me If You Can. Old, old, OLD, grumpy Lucien having to buy BOOKS on how to romance a woman...and the..."

When Leigh sees him in jeans, kitchen gloves, shirtless, and a bandana over his face and is puzzled and scarred is so funny. The issues Lucian had to endure at Marguerite's house were great. I laughed so much. If someone want a lot of laughs with some sex, action, mystery, then read the Argeneau series.

Missyb Paula wrote: "Sort of sounds like the tv show being human.. Love that show. hahaha.."

In a way it is. Later books also have a gargoyle staying with them.

I saw some of the British version of Being Human and liked the concept but couldn't deal with the location & casting. The American version I like better. I like the casting better.

That is so funny because I love the British version and the characters but I couldn't get into watching the American version. I liked the British characters better too. That is great that we each like the different version for exactly the same reason! LOL!

P.T. Macias I have loved every single one of these books. They are very enjoyable. :)

Missyb Bricker has a book coming soon, if what I read from Sands is correct.

Sylvie Sands is great with the "fish out of water" scenes. In Hungry For You, Cale tries to help out his future lifemate by cooking in her restaurant, despite the fact that he's probably never cooked in his life. He discovers that cooking is harder than it looks!
Or another character (can't remember who) decides to try microwaving a frozen meal. "How hard can it be? Put the food in, push a few buttons, and voila!" So funny!

Valerie Just finished reading Under a Vampire Moon (Argeneau Series) I have to say I loved it, When you need to laugh just pick up on of those books and she'll have you laughing until you pee yourself!

Missyb Sylvie wrote: "Sands is great with the "fish out of water" scenes. In Hungry For You, Cale tries to help out his future lifemate by cooking in her restaurant, despite the fact that he's probably never cooked in h..."

The cooking (actually burning) issues were great. Scenes like that is why I love the series. Lucern getting upset because Buffy kept killing the vampires. Lucern holding the sign at the airport and the sign was just a 8 x 11 piece of paper saying Kate's cousin and best friend and maid of honor, because he didn't know her name, and Bastien didn't know what to say to that. I've gotten a lot of strange looks from people because I'd start laughing outloud while reading these books.

Sylvie I love that even though some of these characters are upwards of 1000 years old, they can still be confounded by something as seemingly simple as a microwave or a cell phone. Makes them seems more down-to-earth, somehow, and less formidable.

It was like watching Dancing With The Stars, Cheryl had to explain what raunchy ment to Levi. I guess they don't use the term raunchy in Cuba, but it made for a cute moment. I know a lady who married a guy from Mexico and when he moved to upstate NY he loved the squirels and wanted one for a pet, she had to explain that they are rodents with big tails and they stay outside.

Susan I absolutely adore the Argeneau series and
always recommend it to those who like vampire
lore but not dark and violent books. I've read
everyone and love their combination of para-
normal, romance and a little lost city of Atlantis.

Jessica Bothell I am in love with this series! read all of them to date. Once you read the first on you will be hooked. Lynsay Sands is a great author and has a great gift for getting into the characters and how they interact with each other. I especilly like the fact that there is a great story line along with the romance between the main characters.

Elizabeth #4 is my favorite, #6 and 7 are also great, but the last two(#15, 16) were rather dissapointing

Zafuz i read them all already.. the first starter of the paranormal romance book series i've read.. and i like it really much... now waiting for the IMMORTAL EVER AFTER, so currently reading the PSY/CHANGGELING Series and the MIDNIGHT BREED series.. :D

Lucy Chesna I read the whole series and I loved every single book. I was hooked from the start and Lynsay Sands is a great author

Susan I adore all the Argeneau books. They have
everything - non-evil vampires, humor,
romance, sex. And I have read ever one!

Sandra ~aka vamp gal~ This is a fab series....one of my favourites....I've read all Lynsay Sands books..... She is an amazing writer!
