Taylor I liked her in the beginning, but as time wore on, I realized I couldn't stand her. I thought that Harry should have ended up with a Slytherin. Of course it would have to been set up in other books, but I always liked the idea. I thought Slytherins were seriously misunderstood. It was my favorite house.

Kristen I wasn't crazy about her in the first few books, but I liked her later on.
I didn't really like her in the movies much. I don't think they really got her character right. Plus they completely screwed up the love story part of it between her and Harry.

They didn't do her character justice at all in the movies! It was a big disappointment. And they did totally screw up the love between Harry and Ginny. They just sort of glossed over it. Whenever I watch with my bf, I have to explain to him over and over why I liked Ginny so much in the books, b/c he just can't see it in the film adaptations.

Carmin I wanted Harry and Luna!!!

Sanskriti Nagar Carmin wrote: "I wanted Harry and Luna!!!"

And I wanted Luna and Neville! Both of them seriously misunderstood almost till the end.

Carmin I would be ok with Luna and Neville. I would be happier with Neville and me!!

I was so disappointed with #6. I loved how they got together - loved Harry being jealous, lol
And they gave Cho all that attention before...

T.L. Rese yea, the love story in the potter books weren't that great. i wasn't a big ginny fan - i liked potter and cho, or maybe potter and hermione. i just felt like ginny was kinda boring and her character wasn't really developed.

Sarah Hmm. Yeah, I'm not sure if I like her. I think her character was developed (obviously not as much as Hermione and Ron and Harry) however she became slightly cold and . . . I really van't describe it. I prefered her when she was all innocent and cute. However I did like the way she described Michael Corner and other guys she hated. Having said all this though, I can't see HArry with another gal...

Alex Ginny was fine as Ron's little sister, but I didn't think that her character developed enough to become a real love interest. I had actually thought that Harry was developing a real connection with Luna (especially after Order of the Phoenix). I had expected something to happen along that front before Half Blood Prince and the whole Ginny "chest monster" thing.

message 11: by Ali (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ali I dislike the character, I would have been happy with Harry/Cho or Harry/No-one.

Ginny became so Mary Sue suddenly and I hated her behaviour towards Fluer (what was her problem with Fluer?), it was disgusting.

Weirdology Ahlaam wrote: "what was her problem with Fluer?"

I got the impression it was because Fluer was really pretty and part Veela, which made Ginny make some wrong assumptions about her. And maybe because Fluer was engaged to her brother too and she didn't want her in the family.

message 13: by Molly (new)

Molly I liked her in the first few books, but as the books wore on I didn't like her much. She wasn't nearly as developed as she should have been, and Harry's raging chest monster for her came out of no where. There was no development f their relationship together, or of her as a character. She just went from Ron's shy little sister to incredibly hot, good at sports, strong spell caster, smart, and all that jazz.

Plus, I felt like her jealousy towards Cho in the last book during the final battle was seriously out of place. Saving the world is more important than making sure the guy you like the girl he went on a couple of dates with don't spend time together.

Kam she was actually one of my favorite characters.... i like how rowling portrayed her as the "dynamite-comes-in-small-packages" type...

But only in the book. in the movie, she was....annoying and awkward.

She was very quiet in the movies compared to the books. I don't think this is the actresses fault though; I think it's the movie writers. Ginny's line had a tendency to be god awful, she's never given much screen time, and there's only so much an actress can do when the material is crappy.

i totally agree. i lov Bonnie Wright!

Sorry. Neville is taken. He's my favorite character in the whole series. :)

Clara i liked Ginny in the books and the movies however if you guys don't like her i do NOT have a problem with that!! it's a free country!!

Carmin Melissa wrote: "Carmin wrote: "I would be ok with Luna and Neville. I would be happier with Neville and me!!"

I'm willing to duel you for him. :P

♫♡вℓυє cσηνєяѕє♡♫™ I like Ginny, but I wish J.K. would have expanded and gone deeper into her character a little more. I do like both HarryxGinny and HarryxHermione, though. They would have/have been good couples.

Katie I always compared the relationship to that of Laurie and Jo in "Little Women." Laurie fist proposed to Jo who declined and then he married her sister Amy. He told Jo later that he "was always meant to belong to the March family." I think that Harry always knew he was meant to belong to the Weasley family, and Ginny was the only option being the only girl.

Shennel Muhsin I don't I really paid much attention to Ginny until Harry started liking her. I always sort of just pushed her off to side because to me she was a really minor character. Then out of the blue, Harry was really into her and it confused me. I don't know. I never really paired Harry up with anyone now that I think about it. I don't mind he ended up with Ginny, just I never really gave it much thought before. I think I always assumed he was going to die in the end...that could have been why I never paired him up with anyone...

Badgerlord I think dating someone who idolises you is not cool. Seriously, shooting fish in a barrel. Still, Ron + Hermoine is great.

♫♡вℓυє cσηνєяѕє♡♫™ Well, Ginny didn't really idolize him after (I think it was this one) GOF. It never really talked about it that much, except for in COS.

Olivia In the books she's fine but as an actress in the movie......HORRIBLE! She is the worst actress in the whole movie series! She nearly ruined the last movie for me.

message 26: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath It's cool if you like Bonnie Wright, but I think most of us can agree she's awful as Ginny. And that the movies messed up Harry/Ginny severely. Which is sad, because they had the option to make it really good.

But Ginny in the book? You're all entitled to your opinions, but I'm confused because I love Ginny! Someone said she idolized Harry - She used to. Definitely not any more. If anyone's interested, look up J.K. Rowling's interview with Emerson and Melissa (it's not hard to find). On the third page, she says some really good things about Ginny, how she and Harry went through personal journeys and ended up deserving each other. And why she's good for Harry. It might help you understand better, I don't know.

I'm sorry but I think that's terrible. I think that in a way, yes, Harry was destined to be part of the Weasley family, but only because he loved Ginny and they were meant for each other. And honestly, he already was a part of that family! He spent nearly as much time at the Burrow as Ron, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley always treated him like a son, he didn't have to marry in.

Would have been totally awesome! Luna is my fave!

She was not so much as jealous as she was looking out for Harry. She realized that Cho wanted to be with Harry b/c he is the Chosen One and not for Harry himself.

message 30: by Hina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hina I found Ginny tolerable in the first couple of books, but began to dislike her when in Half Blood Prince JKR turned her into a Mary-Sue. It's just odd as Ginny was hardly mentioned in the other books except for Chamber of Secrets and got the impression she was a quiet, timid girl. Having her become an extrovert and popular and very pretty just made her annoying.

Storm I think one of the points of that was that she had always been an extrovert and popular, Harry was just noticing it in the Half Blood Prince.

message 32: by Hina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hina It was never mentioned in the books. In the Philosopher's Stone Ginny was always shy and timid around Harry and was pretty much the same in the Chamber of Secrets and that was from Harry's point of view as well.

Storm I personally don't mind Ginny, but I think a lot of that could have had to do with what she went through in Chamber of Secrets. Now I haven't read the earlier book in awhile but I thought it was mentioned in book 4 and 5 how she interacted with friends. I'm not positive though.

Bookworm Ginny was really cute when she had that hero crush on Harry. I felt indifferent towards her as the books progressed. Then in Half-blood Prince having her as a love interest for Harry was weird and sudden for me. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded if Harry ended up with someone else. I liked Ginny well enough because she was independent and brave and stuff but still never really got her romance with Harry. I'm ok with it but don't really feel anything towards it, which isn't a problem since there's not much emphasis on romance in the books. In the movies, I absolutely hated her. All the things that made her awesome in the books were gone and Ginny was portrayed as annoying and promiscuous. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely hate slut shaming with a passion but movie Ginny just got on my nerves a lot.

Racquel i am not a big fan of ginny, but i guess harry had to be with someone right?

Nicole Katherine wrote: "But Ginny in the book? You're all entitled to your opinions, but I'm confused because I love Ginny!"

I'm with you, Katherine! I loved Ginny in the books! She was spunky, could hold her own in a duel, and knew how to have fun! On top of that, she was loving and protective of her family, friends, and Harry. What's not to love about her?!

Taylor I don't know. I just couldn't stand her. There was something about her that grated on my nerves. Plus like I said I like the Slytherin house and thought it would have been more interesting if he had ended up with one of them. Then again it's not my book or my decision. I didn't like the way their romance was started. He didn't even pay attention to her until HBP. Then it was like BAM. He was jealous and practically in love with her. She had had other boyfriends before this, so it wasn't that 'now that someone else has her, I realize what I missed'. I kinda think that Rowling just wanted to hurry up and get him with someone, to set up for the end. It was too rushed. I would have preferred zero romance compared to that one.

Valerie I've always liked her, even in the beginning and to the end.

Nicole Taylor wrote: "I don't know. I just couldn't stand her. There was something about her that grated on my nerves. Plus like I said I like the Slytherin house and thought it would have been more interesting if he ha..."

While I disagree with you about Ginny (to each her own!), I do agree with you on the Slytherin point. I thought Slytherin house was really interesting, with all its internal politics and secrets. I think it would've been nice if Harry had had at least one friend or comrade-in-arms in Slytherin house. I think my only true complaint in the entire series of books was in the 7th, when McGonagall gives the students the choice of staying to fight or fleeing, and every single member of Slytherin house leaves. I know that they're cunning and self-preservation is in their nature, but I thought that it just added to the prejudice of all Slytherins being followers of Voldemort at the worst, or slimy cowards at best. In fact, I'm pretty sure (if I remember correctly) that Voldemort tells Lucius Malfoy at some point that the Slytherins have joined him. Did anybody else pick up on this? Or am I taking this Slythering slight to heart?

message 40: by Kath (last edited Dec 13, 2011 08:28PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath I don't understand everyone saying "she used to be really quiet and all the sudden she's outgoing and pretty and popular." It was EXPLAINED in the books, that she wouldn't talk or be herself around Harry, (And it was always from Harry's point of view!) and then she got older and "gave up" on him, and started being herself. She also got more confident. And guys started liking her because she was finally old enough to truly date...she was 15 in HBP. That's about when people get to high school, and "pretty and popular" comes more into play. This is totally normal teenage stuff guys...

And thank you, Nicole! I know I'm not the only Ginny supporter, I was under the impression she was a popular character. So it's sad there aren't more people supporting her!

Shreya=Drastically Random. Find the emoticon. I think part of the reason people are beginning to feel hostile towards Ginny is because of how she's portrayed in the movies. They've made her much softer and sappier than she actually is. I agree that it's not the actress's fault, but it is true.

Ebehi I don't dislike Ginny but I just have a problem with her relationship with Harry. It seemed like J.K. Rowling just decided that she needed Harry to have a new love interest and slapped Ginny into the role. There was no real chemistry between them and it was really overplayed in the movies which made it all the more irritating.

Ebehi Taylor wrote: "I don't know. I just couldn't stand her. There was something about her that grated on my nerves. Plus like I said I like the Slytherin house and thought it would have been more interesting if he ha..."

I completely agree with you on this one. The view of Slytherin House was just too one-sided. And I really would have preferred Harry being alone than to have him with Ginny. Or at least Rowling should have somehow given their relationship time to develop. What made it even worse was that they got MARRIED in the end.

Bookworm V.E. wrote: "I don't dislike Ginny but I just have a problem with her relationship with Harry. It seemed like J.K. Rowling just decided that she needed Harry to have a new love interest and slapped Ginny into ..."

YES! The truth has been revealed!

True, but to me Ginny felt like a Mary-Sue, fantastic Quidditch player, brilliant, pretty and no flaws. It just made her feel 2D and boring.

message 47: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath What's with this Mary-Sue thing?? I've heard the term before but it doesn't fit at all...

message 48: by Hina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hina It basically means a perfect person. God-modelled, Gary-Stu (for a guy).

message 49: by Vymletoza (last edited Dec 14, 2011 11:04AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Vymletoza I hated her in movies, but in books, it was more indifferent. I really supported HarryxLuna. I mean, they would make a great couple. I'm not against NevillexLuna that much, but I will still prefer Harry.

EDIT: but indeed!!! better than Cho! with her, I didn't dislike her THAT much in the movie, but in the book, bleah.

message 50: by Sonia (last edited Dec 14, 2011 03:27PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sonia Jarmula She wasn't as developed as she could have been, but I still liked that she could be fiesty. She wasn't a focus in the movies really, so I don't think that anyone should say the movies did a terrible job-there was just no opportunity to characterize her in the film. I think that Ginny was kind of a person who grounded Harry, and JK Rowling portrayed that by not making her the most exciting of characters. As for someone else being a love interest, I think that Ginny is perfect, because she's someone who was with him through a lot, and their time in the Chamber of Secrets was intimate in the way that it revealed a lot about Ginny who saw him sacrificing his safety for another person. I don't really see how she is a Mary Sue, just because she has great qualities doesn't mean that she isn't realistic, and I think that the Chamber of Secrets and her bad relationships showed that.
