NEVILLE! He's...I don't know...wierd!
Katherine wrote: "It's cool if you like Bonnie Wright, but I think most of us can agree she's awful as Ginny. And that the movies messed up Harry/Ginny severely. Which is sad, because they had the option to make it ..."YES. Totally agree with you! Bonnie is not good as Ginnny!
She is definitely not one of my fav characters. She was super weak in the beginning of Hp and then became out of no where cool in book 5. I always wanted Harry to end up with Hermione or at the very least Luna.
My feelings for Ginny are neutral. I didn't like or dislike her. I loved that she decided to move on and become interested in other guys instead of obsessing over Harry. And I felt that Harry liking her was completely random, because before he only saw her as his best friend's little sister. If their relationship would have been built up in the books, I would be more okay with it.
@ Heather: I do think Harry's romance kind of sprang up out of nowhere. Ron and Hermione was quite obvious from book 1, but Harry and Ginny didn't pop up until like book 6. Although, after Book 2, I had a bad feeling those two were gonna happen. Rowling was head over heels for the Weasley family.

i mean herione harry and hermione to get married. srry
I love her, I think she is really genius in the book, but I really don´t like her with Harry. I always thought that he should have ended alone, I mean he has a lot of reasons to be a hermit, but if I should pick a girl for him, she would be Luna.
ew luna!!! thats just weird! lunas also annoying! i wanted it to be harry and hermione!!
I like Ginny a lot. She's smart, independent and has a good sense of humor. Also, growing up with 6 brothers has made her somewhat tough. I agree that the whole love-story between her and Harry could have been written better, but I really think Ginny was exactly the kind of girl Harry needed. Some argue that a relationship between Hermione and Harry would've been more believable, but Hermione was like a sister to him. As for HarryxLuna, I don't really see how anyone would think that they could ever be more than friends lol. They're too different; Luna needs someone who understands her, not Harry who was mostly nice to her because he felt sorry for her (in the beginning, anyway). I really wanted NevillexLuna :|

true sule that harry feels bad for luna!

Sure, Harry and Ginny's relationship may be underdeveloped, but don't hate on Ginny because of that!
Aliza wrote: "I find her okay, I also wouldn't want Harry to be with anybody else.. :)"Exactly! Harry and Hermione MIGHT MIGHT MIGHT have worked, but J.K. was dropping hints about Ron and Hermione the whole series.

I didn't have much of an opinion about Ginny early on in the series. Towards the end, however, I found that I strongly disliked her. Then again, responding to some of the earlier comments, I would have to agree that she was an undeveloped character. Perhaps, I wasn't given a chance to really like her as a character.
Alex wrote: "Ginny was fine as Ron's little sister, but I didn't think that her character developed enough to become a real love interest. I had actually thought that Harry was developing a real connection wit..."Lol the "chest monster" thing was so cheesy. Anyway the whole Ginny/Harry romance I admit was a bit sudden, but I was okay with it. I think what J.K Rowling was trying to do was create a link between Ron and Harry. Yes, they were friends, but I guess they were kind of like brothers to Rowling. So she decided to make them real brothers. Plus for romances nobody really does the whole, shy younger girl who actually gets to end up with the guy. Though I don't dislike Ginny and Harry together I always wanted Harry to be with Hermione. Definitely not Cho though. I mean she was okay in the movie, but in the book she was so girly, overly emotional, and jealous.
Book Worm wrote: "Alex wrote: "Ginny was fine as Ron's little sister, but I didn't think that her character developed enough to become a real love interest. I had actually thought that Harry was developing a real c..."I honestly will never understand how people think that Cho was overemotional.
And how on earth was she too girly?
I liked Ginny in the books and Harry needed to be officially part of the Weasley family somehow. But in the movies - Harry and Ginny had NO CHEMISTRY! And I guess they couldn't do anything about it by the time they got to the sixth movie, but they were awful together.
Taylor wrote: "I liked her in the beginning, but as time wore on, I realized I couldn't stand her. I thought that Harry should have ended up with a Slytherin. Of course it would have to been set up in other books..."I have never been a big fan of Ginny, and seeing them together in the movies especially bothers me. I just don't see it. I never felt any chemistry between them. It felt forced to me. I could never picture Harry with anybody - kind of like Dumbledore - except, you know, not gay...just busy. Well, maybe gay. :)
LOL @Missy. I know what you mean. Harry, Ron and Hermoine are complete. Harry is kind of like a Jesus character in that his mission was too big for him to have a romance. I totally agree with the "not gay, just busy" assessment.
I don't hate Ginny; I feel like the concept of Ginny was pretty cool, but Rowling needed to build her character up a little--she was underdeveloped. The same thing goes for Harry and Ginny's relationship. I like the concept, but not the portrayal. Rowling needed some more depth to it...
I never really got the Harry/Ginny couple. I liked how in the beginning Ginny was this girl with a huge crush on Harry who she idolized, and then slowly she evolved and by the fifth book they were good friends; I liked when they were just friends. it showed how she changed from this tiny girl with fantasies to a more mature, stronger character. i wish it stayed that way, instead of the romance.and plus, by the end of the series, they were all related to each other, Ron, Hermione, Harry and Ginny. I felt that was just a tad cheesy. I wish Harry ended up with Luna or someone else, even someone who was mentioned in the series. I felt like J.K. had to add in a romance for Harry because its sort of sad if the main character ends up alone.
And a sidenote on the whole Cho thing:I actually found Harry's crush on Cho really cute in GOF, and thought their was possible potential for them in the future.
Then Cedric died, and the whole downfall of the relationship was inevitable. Cho and Harry were both effected too much by those events to really ever have a chance. It was a case of bad timing and something that Could Have Happened but Never Did. ;)
Ahlaam wrote: "I dislike the character, I would have been happy with Harry/Cho or Harry/No-one.Ginny became so Mary Sue suddenly and I hated her behaviour towards Fluer (what was her problem with Fluer?), it wa..."
It was because Fleur had a slightly obnoxious attitude that grated on Ginny and her mother's nerves. Even Hermione didn't really care for her. It wasn't until they realized how much she truly cared for Bill that they saw the good in her.
I never liked Ginny either. I'm not even sure why. I do agree that the movie version wasn't great compared to the book but \i still didn't particularly like her in the book. Saying that though I do get the fact that her and Harry are good together and why they are together. Harry definitely needed someone unfazed by his status and Ginny is fiercely independent.
Yeah, she's better than Cho. I wished Harry would've ended up with Hermione though, but then that would leave Ron the odd man out.
Bonnie Wright as an actress is awesome. Its just the way the writers for the movie wrote her lines... Urgh, they didnt do the character justice at all!I always felt that the writer for the movies was a Harry/Hermione shipper, it even felt as if Hermione was Harrys bestfriend in the movies instead of Ron.
But back to the subject, I absolutly love Ginny!
Yes, she did idolize Harry, but look at it from your perpective. If you were being told stories about some hero every night before you went to sleep wouldnt you develop a crush or even idolize that person? Especially if they were close to your age group?
And then one day this boy just happens to become bestfriends with your brother. And not only that, but he then SAVES YOUR LIFE. So its only natural that Ginny would be really shy in front of Harry.
But she got over that, she dated other boys... She showed us and Harry that she was incredibaly talented with sports and such. Some people say that she isnt well developed, but we all have to remember that were seeing everything from Harrys perspective. So the reason some people say that Ginny is a little undeveloped is because we, with Harry, are just noticing her.
I didn't dislike Ginny, but she was not done justice in the movies!!! Maybe in the second one.... just in the beginning. She was so cute, runnin down the stairs!! and something about a cat.... But totally lovin the Harry and Luna. Since I read the books, I have LOVED the name Luna, and thought that her character was one of the best, and she is my personal favorite!
I really didn't get why Harry loved her. In the books i didn't know why of this love, i know why Ginny likes him, Why does Harry?I really hate the movie version on the romance, was so uncomfortable to look at. I fell that in the movies they should do a little bit more to show them as a couple, they even deleted a small, but nice scene of them.
Ginny was likeable in the books, and I think Bonnie Wright was fine in the first few movies...but as she got older, she grew further and further away from the character she was playing and she just didn't 'fit' anymore. Unfortunate but short of recasting for HBP, which would have caused an uproar, not much anyone could have done.
Alya wrote: "Bonnie Wright as an actress is awesome. Its just the way the writers for the movie wrote her lines... Urgh, they didnt do the character justice at all!I always felt that the writer for the movies ..."
I have to agree with you about the movie writers being Harry/Hermione shippers. They basically down graded Ron into the buttmonkey, giving hermione and Harry ALL of his intelligent or funny lines, making him look like an idiot. There were far more parts where Harry and Hermione interacted as best friends than there were Ron and Harry. Over all the writers did a great disservice to Ron and Ginny in the movies.
DEAR LORD I hated her from the start.I think that - and I love everything Jo did - that Ginny should not have ended up with Harry. I saw Harry with Cho, believe it or not. Luna was Neville's girl, in my eyes.
I just think that Ginny had this horrible hero complex and I don't think she ever grew out of it.
Not only did I hate Ginny in the books, but she was horribly portrayed in the films. I thought maybe a good actress would have lifted at least some of my hate, but no. Bonnie is an awkward actress. Every scenee she was in was made awkward by her awkwardness. That one where she ties Harry's shoelace in HBP - so awkward it's unbelievable.
