Eileen (ileanedover) | 80 comments Well I finished up Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back. It's a sweet story, but I'm not keen on the theology behind it It's very readable, and charming - I mean, who wouldn't be touched by a family's experience with the near-death of their four year child - but it's too pat and a little too preachy for me. I'm sure this family experiences all little Colton's reports of heaven as the truth and they take huge solace and succor from his tale, so I have no need to take it away from them, I just find it a little too "too"...if you know what I mean.

I have started reading Thirteen Moons, in my attempt to move through material that has been sitting on my bookshelf for more than two years. I really liked Cold Mountain, so I have high hopes for this Frazier book too.

I'm glad to hear what you think of
Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back, Eileen.

It's been on my maybe list for a while, but I'm not a fan of preachy books, so you've made up my mind :)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Finished And Then There Were None And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie -- probably one of my favorite Christies so far, which surprised me. Finished The Brass Verdict The Brass Verdict (Mickey Haller, #2) by Michael Connelly also - which since I unexpectedly find myself serving on a jury this week was kind of apropos. Ripping through The Affair: A Reacher Novel The Affair A Reacher Novel by Lee Child , The Kitchen Witch The Kitchen Witch (Accidental Witch Trilogy, #1) by Annette Blair , and my pen-pal books for two of my groups: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Annie Barrows ; and The Borgia Bride The Borgia Bride by Jeanne Kalogridis -- each fascinating in its own way and all very different reads.

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I've read two Lee Child books, and I have almost the whole series. I enjoy them - a quick read with an action-packed story :)

She's a good author, I read Poison Study by her a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I've got Touch of Power sitting on my kindle waiting to be read.

Kimberly | 2033 comments I'm starting my re-read of Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon because after months of nominating it in another group it won! I can't wait to re-read it. I miss Jamie and Claire!!

Are you rereading just the first book or the whole series? Rereading the whole series would be like reliving your entire life!

message 3116: by Eileen (new)

Eileen (ileanedover) | 80 comments Outlander is the only book in the series I've read, and I really liked it. I must revisit these and complete them!

I'm the same. I read the first book and really liked it. For some reason, I wasn't interested in reading the series. It was so long ago, I don't remember.

I've started Women, Food, and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything. It's part of my year long challenge and I'm going to include it in the "Something Learned Everyday" themed read.

message 3118: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I got halfway through the third, or fourth Outlander book - I loved the first two but then I got distracted (as always happens), and now I feel like I'd need to start all over again to get back into the story, and the size of the books daunts me :(

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments If it was one 900 pager, I'd be all over it like a rash. But 7 900 pagers gives me vertigo!

Eileen (ileanedover) | 80 comments Book length never daunts me if it's readable. If not - ugh. Torture.

message 3121: by Susan (new)

Susan (chlokara) I listened to the whole Outlander series on audiobook. I don't care how long it is if it is on an audiobook. And the narrator, Davina Porter, is beyond excellent.

Just the first one, I own the rest of the series but haven't read them yet. I need to refresh my memory before I do.

message 3128: by Susan (new)

Susan (chlokara) My one beef with Diana Gabaldon is that she should remind the reader of things. She will say, for instance, "I knew that man looked familiar. It was Joe Jones. I never expected to see him again." She could say, "It was Joe Jones, who beat up Jamie and left him for dead in France twenty years ago." (Five books ago.) But the reader (me) is left sitting there thinking, "Joe Jones?!?!?"

Yes, and I'm stuck here until the next installment comes out.

I just started the audiobook of
Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner by Giana Gabaldon which, which not really a part of the Outlander series, fills a segment of James Frazier's life. It should at least get to me Australia.

Well, I love Lee Child so I'd say yes. :-). However, have you read any of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp books? Or Robert B Parker's Spenser? If you like either of those, then Lee Child is definitely for you.

So far I am enjoying it. what is refershing is that the main character is not on some mighty quest and is just trying to do what is right in difficult circumstances...

It started well then slowed down considerably but picking up again now. I have a couple of quibbles with it but I'm going to reserve judgement until I'm finished!
