What are you currently reading and why? (CLOSED)
So I finished both
and
tonight. I didn't care for Coraline at all and only gave it a one star, the book gave me a headache and I feel like I wasted my time reading it. On the other hand I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED In the Forests of the Night. It was just as good if not better than the first book in the trilogy. I'm really bummed that I have to wait until who knows when to read the third book.

. Nothing wrong with reading kids books right?"I have that audio book. Still to hear it though.
Kimberly wrote: "So I finished both

I went ahead and purchased Death Comes to Pemberley & I look forward to reading it very soon. I'm in the first half of The Winter Sea and LOVING it. Very good so far. Just what I was looking for.
Pragya wrote: "Kimberly wrote: "So I finished both

Lori wrote: "I went ahead and purchased Death Comes to Pemberley & I look forward to reading it very soon. I'm in the first half of The Winter Sea and LOVING it. Very good so far...."I have The Winter Sea on my TBR list. :) Everyone seems to love it I can't wait to read it.

Finally making some head way in
and I've started
which I won in a blog give away last month and I'm starting
to review for Netgalley.
Judy wrote: "Sue and Lori, I envy you the Death Comes to Pemberley. I haven't read one of her books in decades?"I just finished this yesterday, and it was a pretty good story ;) I gave it 3 ***
Judy wrote: "Sue and Lori, I envy you the Death Comes to Pemberley. I haven't read one of her books in decades?"I'm still reading. I read all James' books. I really enjoy the Dalgleish series.
For the most part, the story was pretty good... I loved the language, made me "feel" as if I were reading an Austen-ish work. Her desriptions of the characters, their homes, etc., was wonderful - was as if you could "see" everything before you. But it dragged on a bit in some areas. Nothing extreme, but I was able to get through it, and came out with an overall sense of enjoyment :)Something else I just thought of! LOL The author picked up several lines from Pride & Prejudice, and put her own little twist on them in this story. Such as when Lady Catherine spouts off about "Heaven and earth .... are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted!" ... The line isn't quite the same, but you pick up on them. Also, the "Knightley's" from "Emma" are briefly mentioned near the end of the story... thought that was an interesting addition! ;)
For some reason I can't get into any of the books I started yesterday :( but last night I managed to dtart and get 55 pages into
and I recommend it to all the cat lovers. They're such cute stories :)
I love his writing, I finished his book
a few months back and loved it. It was a gift my uncle gave me for Christmas or my Birthday when I was 7 and it took me 14 years to read it. I'm so glad I did!
Judy wrote: "Kimberly, check out the BBC TV show, too. They are well done."Will do Judy :) The library here has the show on VHS so I'm putting them on hold as we speak.
Just finished Air Babylon - mostly good, wasn't exactly what I thought it would be.Now to finish Dead of Night: A Zombie Novel and start my non-zombie reading spree!
I'm quite scared......but I have a lot of Netgalley titles I need to read before they expire, so that will drive me to stay away from brains!
Kat wrote: "I'm quite scared......but I have a lot of Netgalley titles I need to read before they expire, so that will drive me to stay away from brains!"Me too!
Thank you Janice. I have a feeling I may need it...I'm about 40 pages from the end of my current zombie book...already feeling a little teary ;-)
Finally making some head way in
and it's pretty good for Juvenile Fiction book. I think I'm going to buy a copy for my niece. I also started
which I like but it could be better.
Alison wrote: "Has anyone read
The Strain (Vampire virus type thingy). Might read this next."I listened to it on audiobook earlier this year - and really liked it - proper vampires (no glitter) and pretty action-packed. Loved the main characters too.
I'm finishing up..
.. I won it a few months ago from goodreads and I finally snuck it in.. so far I cant decide how I feel about it..

Lol if any one would have it would be Kat the Zombie virus lover.
Well I just stayed up way past my bed time (it's 3:30 am here) reading
which I started at 10:30pm and I've finished it...quiet possibly one of the best romances I've read in years...now I have to write the review for Netgalley in the morning and decide what I'd like to read later today.
Kat wrote: "As I have an irrational, hysterical fear of flying, I'm reading 35 Miles from Shore."Are you trying to give yourself a reason to fear flying? My son said that he will never fly again. Then a few days ago, he went on a helicopter ride and thoroughly enjoyed it.
No I actually decided to pick the first unread book on my e-reader.....maybe as I have no plans for fly for the next year it's the best time to read it!
I understand. Read it when you aren't likely to have to fly so that by the time you do, you've forgotten the book.I was reading a book about circus oddities when I was expecting my son. I took it to the hospital when I went into labour. The doctor came into the room and asked what I was reading. "What a book to be reading at a time like this!" was his started response. LOL!
Janice wrote: "I understand. Read it when you aren't likely to have to fly so that by the time you do, you've forgotten the book.I was reading a book about circus oddities when I was expecting my son. I took ..."
LOL, Janice. :D
I started reading The Turquoise Ledge: A Memoir last night. This will cross off another of my year long challenge reads.
Janice wrote: "I started reading The Turquoise Ledge: A Memoir last night. This will cross off another of my year long challenge reads."That one looks intriguing Janice, I'm looking forward to your thoughts on it.
Last night I read 3 books
and
because I was so excited for Christmas morning. all of them were good reads but now I have no idea what to read :(
Kimberly wrote: "Last night I read 3 books

would be perfect for now, Kimberly. You can get the audio (only 18 minutes long) for free from Librivox.
Kimberly wrote: "Janice wrote: "I started reading The Turquoise Ledge: A Memoir last night. This will cross off another of my year long challenge reads."That one looks intriguing Janice, I'm loo..."
I can tell you already that it is not your typical memoir. It's a free flow of thoughts, memories, and observations.
The writing seems amateur for an author who is published with several novels. Here's a paragraph from the book: Eventually the trail descends and crosses the big arroyo and continues; but here I turn and follow the big arroyo back home. The sandy bottom of the arroyo is criss-crossed with bird and animal tracks that make the trail that humans have used for thousands of years. In rough steep terrain arroyos may provide the only access to an area so the arroyos are "rights of way" fore wildlife and humans on foot.
There are several other paragraphs like this where she over uses words. Turquoise is one that got a good polishing in another paragraph.
Pragya (Merry Christmas!) wrote: "Kimberly wrote: "Last night I read 3 books

Janice wrote: "Kimberly wrote: "Janice wrote: "I started reading The Turquoise Ledge: A Memoir last night. This will cross off another of my year long challenge reads."That one looks intriguing ..."
hmmm that's unfortunate I hate when authors repeat words too much...maybe I won't add this one to my tbr list.
Janice wrote: "Wow, Kimberly, you read very fast!"Thanks Janice luckily they were Juvenile books or else I wouldn't have finished them :)
Janice wrote: "I started reading The Turquoise Ledge: A Memoir last night. This will cross off another of my year long challenge reads."I have this book to read Janice. I bought it at the Border closing but haven't read it yet. the description appealed to me and I'll have to fit it in somewhere, sometime.
Kat wrote: "Continuing my non-Zombie run, I've just started The Children of Men"Ooo I've got that on my kindle. Let me know if it's any good. The movie was out a couple of years ago and I was really surprised to see it was a PD James.

Absolutely not!!! I think of all Gaiman as adult kid's books (or vice versa). One of my favorite books this year was The Graveyard Book and Coraline is on my TBR.
I'm currently reading Death Comes to Pemberley and Duma Key. Quite the opposite writing styles and subjects.
