Jaime - You have to tell me how the Bloody Chamber is when you are done w/ it. It has been sitting on my Don't-own-but-want shelf on goodreads for an age and a half.

I've only read the first, and title, story so far. It was great, but not for anyone with weak nerves. I somehow get the sense you are very far from that person, though, Heather! You weren't one who didn't like that scene in Peony in Love, were you? LOL The prose is superb. It's frightening, sensual. Just great. It's the kind that transports you with it's vividness. At least, for me. I think I've found another favorite author. And that's just from the first story.
Wow. Those are strong words Jaime. another favorite eh? I think I might have to look into that one eventually.
Just finished Sexing the Cherry - Jeanette Winterson. Will now read Cross Country - James Patterson.
Last night I started Silent On The Moor by Deanna Raybourn, the 3rd in her Victorian mystery series.

I am reading Bones by Johnathan Kellerman. I decided to pick up this novel from my local library, because I am back to the Alex Delaware series habit. Alex Delaware & Milo Sturgis are my favorite crime solving duo.As for The Host by Stephenie Meyer. This book has been in my reading list for awhile, and some of my friends have read it & said it was an awesome story. I also wanted to try another novel of Stephenie Meyer that was different from the Twilight series. =)~

I'll let you know as soon as I finish it. Should finish it today hon x
Burgendya wrote: " I am reading Bones by Johnathan Kellerman. I decided to pick up this novel from my local library, because I am back to the Alex Delaware series habit. Alex Delaware & Milo Sturgis are my favorite ..."I have Bones on my TBR pile.
I am currently reading Chosen - A house of night novel. This is the third one in the series. Read the first two last week. It's a series I can't put down and runs on from my Twilight addiction
I'm reading The Woman in White for a Read-along. It's been on my shelf to read for ages and I thought this would be a good opportunity to finally read it. I'm about 3/4 through now. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Victorian mysteries. It's a real pager-turner.
I'm reading 2666 by Roberto Boalano because it had so many gushing reviews in the papers when it came out and it was in the library.

It was a good book, but not sure of all the hype hon. I would say it was 8/10 if I was to mark it.
Busy first week to June. I read "Ella minnow Pea" for a discussion group - fun word play. Next I re-read "The Reader" after seeing the movie. I got more out of the book the second time. Third was "Outlaws and Lawmen of the Old West" - for a change of pace (not a very good book). S onow I am going to try "A Long Way Gone" - child soldiers in Africa.
Pudwood wrote: "I'm reading 2666 by Roberto Boalano because it had so many gushing reviews in the papers when it came out and it was in the library."Pudwood, how are you finding 2666? I have this on my bookshelf. Don't know when I'll get to it, though.
I have just now finished The Vanished Man by Jeffery Deaver. I picked it because I hadn't read his before, was in the mood for a good crime-thriller and had heard great stuff about his books. Very impressed I was too!Going to pick another now, I love the feeling of getting to choose a new book!

I am going to piggy-back on the curiosity about 2666. I have heard great things about it but am curious too.

Hi i am reading Dirty Game by Jessie Keane.I have just finished the first 3 books by Ken McCoy and really enjoyed them. He was a new author for me but look forward to reading another of his
i just finished Amsterdam my ian mcewan....blah didn't like it.starting everlost because i wanted to reaad something suernatural.
I will be starting Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson today because I wanted to mix it up and read something funny - I loved his A Walk in the Woods Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail and felt it was about time I read more of his work. Plus, I just started writing for a travel site and thought he might inspire me!
I just started The Last Dickens A Novel by Matthew Pearl. I enjoyed his previous two novels, The Dante Club A Novel and The Poe Shadow A Novel, so I'm looking forward to this one, too.

I'm enjoying it so far. Only in book 1 though. It's surprisingly readable. I thought it would be more intimidating.
I'm going to start Cutting for Stone tonight. It's the June group read for the Bookmarks Magazine group I'm part of on Goodreads. We pick a book that was reviewed in the past issue of the magazine and this was the book that received the most votes. Although I didn't vote for it (I wanted to read Drood A Novel or The Book of Night Women), it looks like an interesting read, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I would be reading Ella Minnow Pea, but it hasn't arrived yet!
I'm just about to start reading The Likeness by Tara French. I loved her Into The Woods, crime with a real literary feel to it, and so am really looking forward to this one.
I just finished The Nesbit twofer I was reading today while sitting at jury duty for 6 hours w/out doing anything and I have just started The Potato Peel Pie Society book, you know....because I've heard good things about it.
Kipahni wrote: "i just finished Amsterdam my ian mcewan....blah didn't like it."Interesting. I've been very impressed with the four McEwan's I've read, but you're the second person I know who's recently disliked Amesterdam. Have you enjoyed others by him and what didn't you like about this one?

I think it was a combo of a lot of things.
it was on the 1001 books to read before you die, so I had a preconcieved notion that the literary style would be unique or the story line would be twisty turny. (like the other ones mentioned in 1001 books to read list)
I also had a little bit of high expectations because McEwan is so popular (I have not read his other books so I am sure that Amsterdam is not a proper example of his writing ability)
I also was reading it via computer, which makes all enjoyments of books a little less, because it just isn't as aesthtic.
As far as the book itself, characters are souless, selfish and unrelateable, and I knew the ending by page 50. It was a good thing the book was so short otherwise I might have not finished it.
I am listening to Messenger of Truth A Maisie Dobbs Novel by Jacqueline Winspear and reading Snapshot by Garry Disher. Enjoying both.
Heather wrote: "meh Kipahni....I agree with you. I absolutely hated with a passion Atonment. "That's a little more controversial. LOL
Why did you hate it so much?
Has anyone read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro? It's a book I've been dying to read, but haven't been able to get into it. I've tried starting it twice, but keep putting it down. Has anyone had any difficulty getting into it? I need someone to encourage me to stick it out!!!
C - just had an extremely hard time connecting with any of the characters and by the time anything happened in the book, I really stopped caring. The only reason I finished it is because I kept hoping it would get better, and it just never did for me. I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. It was very good. I enjoyed it quite a lot.
I am now going to get started on In The Woods by Tana French.
Hi Heather, Which did you like better - Ella Minnow Pea or The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society? I really enjoyed Ella and I have Guernsey on my TBR list and both are written in letters.Let me know what you think of In The Woods I thought it was terrific. Kept me guessing all the way to the end.

I read it last year. I found the premise of the book to be very interesting, if not very disturbing. I think I kept reading out of curiousity, just to see how everything rectified itself in the end. I don't want to give away too much, but if you like odd, distrubing concepts to reflect upon, read on. It will leave you thinking in the end.
I received this book as a trade through a swapping site I'm part of and I remember the person who sent it to me sent me a personal message to please let him know what I thought of it. It's the only book I've ever traded when that's happened to me. He said it had gotten very mixed reviews from the people he knew who had read it.
If you finish it, let me know what you think!
Lucky you Heather, I loved In The Woods. Just finished Tana French's second, The Likeness, and it blew me away. Loved it, highly recommended.Have seen and heard a lot about that Potato Peel... book. May have to give that a try. Next for me, however, it's Palace Council.
Just finished For One More Day - Mitch Albom. Now I am going to carry on reading Sleepyhead - Mark Billingham
Victoria wrote: "Lucky you Heather, I loved In The Woods. Just finished Tana French's second, The Likeness, and it blew me away. I didn't think she wrote as a man very well, which may be why the main character annoyed me to no end. I was frustrated that the childhood focus wasn't resolved and the ending wasn't that impressive to me - I hadn't figured it out but wasn't surprised by it. I think I probably would have enjoyed the follow-up better as Cassie was less annoying to me.

I loved "Remains of the Day" so NLMG was disappointing. I am interested in reading "Nocturnes", but it is getting mixed reviews.
John wrote: "Maria wrote: "Has anyone read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro? It's a book I've been dying to read, but haven't been able to get into it. I think I gave the book a middle-of-the-road three stars.
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "Just finished listening to The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger"And....? Your thoughts?
Oh Molly, we throughly enjoyed it. Without going into too much detail (incase it spoils it for others), it was an interesting read/listen.

I am reading Jamaica Inn by Daphne DuMarier. After reading Pride & Prejudice and really not liking it I didn't want to completely give up on classics, so I went for this as it is a Virago Modern Classic and a bit more recent.
