Middlemarch - Reading Schedule
Please note that the schedule has now been updated, and you may now comment. Also, please note that I'll be almost completely unavailable all this week, but back online on Sunday the 8th.
I'm not sure I'll do a full re-read of it, have read it several times (including fairly recently for another group here), but I hope to be able to participate in the discussion by refreshing my recollection with general skimming and closer reading of key passages. It's a book well worth reading several times.
I'm planning on reading this one! I just need to catch up on the last section of TAAOCAK first!Loretta, your new picture is so beautiful - brains and beuty!
I started this one two days ago. I think that I'm really going to like it. It's also an interesting change of pace form A Game of Thrones.
I have enough on my plate that I considered dropping this one, but I read the first few chapters and I'm hooked. Looking forward to discussing this with you guys!
Martha wrote: "I may hold off on this one until I finish Bleak House. I'm over committed to books as usual! LOL"I understand, Martha. I pushed on Our Mutual Friend to get to this one and a A Game of Thrones. Both are excellent! Looking forward to when you can join us.
This book just recently caught my attention, I look forward to reading it/listening to it alternately. :D
I'm doing that with Bleak House, Becky. I'm finding that I catch things when I'm listening that I missed when reading. That and BH is such a great book. Really makes up for my sad attempt at Little Dorrit last year! LOL I will try again though.
I'm anxious to start Middlemarch. I did finish one of the books I was reading so I may start it now, too. Too hard to resist!
@ Andrea: Thank you!I just got back from my vacation (and am suffering from jet lag) so haven't started this one yet. Will start it tonight, but I'll open the thread now.
Cathie wrote: "This will be my first book with any group. Looking forward to it."I hope you'll enjoy it.
I think you'll enjoy it more if you aren't shy about posting, but join and share your ideas and thoughts.
Cathie wrote: "This will be my first book with any group. Looking forward to it."Welcome Cathie. I have debated about joining this read as I have so many books on the go, but I think I am going to start this too. As Everyman says, it's easier if you get involved. Enjoy!
Cathie wrote: "Thank you Everyman, and Jolene for the warm welcome."Happy Reading, Cathie!! I am just starting chapter 6 and so far not too bad....
I'm behind on this one. Trying to finish another book I'm reading Brideshead Revisited before I start it. I'm dying to read the thread of posts on the first 5 chapters!! LOL
I'm hoping to start this one tomorrow while I'm on the elliptical! I put it on my Nook so I can make the font big and I can read while I pedel without it being too much of a distraction. So far, so good........
I'm on schedule and trying to find time to comment in the threads! To be honest, I'm not in love with this book yet, but I'm trying to give it a fair trial. I'm finding the characters and their lives dull and hard to relate to.
Alright, you've all convinced me to give this one a try. Just got the free edition on my kindle. Now it's time to try to catch up :P
Sorry, guys. I was intending on reading this with you all. I was hospitalized after the holidays with a back injury. I'm out, but I'm still working on my recovery. Alot of pt and Drs. appts. But I've wanted to read this book for years, so I'm hoping on catching up. :)

Alot of pt and Drs. appts. B..."sorry to hear that. Are you in need of quiet recreation? Middlemarch is on audiobook through Audible and perhaps also through your library, either through Overdrive or in Interlibrary Loan on cassette or CD.
Its also offered for free by Librivox as an audiobook. Its not their best recording unfortunately. I use Librivox a lot though, and I really adore some of the readers, when I get to ones that I don't care for though, I switch back to the book. Actually, it makes for a fun reading experience flipping back and forth.Any ways, feel better!
Glynis wrote: "Aren't we meant to be on Week 6 now? :-)"I was kind of wondering the same thing... I just keep reading and try to stick with the schedule.
I read all the chapters early last week, and saved my thoughts in a word doc. I just started week 6 today, I'm really starting to enjoy the developments in the characters.
I thought maybe at first Kathy was moderator, but it's Loretta, hopefully everything is okay. I'm continuing to read as well, but maybe this will be a good chance for those who started late to catch up.

I hope everything is okay too. I am getting a little worried.
Is Loretta missing? She's usually quite on the ball with these things isn't she? I hope she's okay too. Should we take a break from reading until she is back?
Certainly hope she's ok. Is she in school? If so, maybe she's just very busy with that. I'm very behind so will try to catch up soon. I always try to read too many at once.

I had to drop Game of Thrones, but I'd already read it ages ago anyway luckily. I was tempted to drop Middlemarch too, but it is starting to get more interesting.
This is a really busy time of year for me with my volunteer activities and my son's needs. I come to work to get away from the stress of annual reports, etc. LOL
I was wondering what was going on too and to be honest haven't picked up the book in a while because I am having a hard time getting into it. Hope Loretta is okay!
I hope that Loretta is ok, too. I am cruising along with this one. I have 12 chapters to go. It's soooo long, but I believe one of the best books that I have ever read. It will go on my top 10 of all time list unless it falls apart at the end.
Ack, guys, so sorry I've been completely MIA. To be honest, never picked up this book (Though I do still intend to) and work got INTENSE (the life of a corporate attorney....).Wondering how everyone wants me to address the way I've dropped the ball the past two weeks? Consider the past two weeks "catch-up" time and just continue with the schedule as if we took a 2 week break? Let me all know what you think! Hoping the three-day weekend (in the States) helps me stop being such a bad mod.
Wait you have a three day weekend? How do I not have a three day weekend! I want Washington's birthday off! :)Personally I'm fine with whatever. It seems a lot of people want a chance to catch up, this seems like a good chance.
I'm with Becky, whatever works out best for you and everyone else is good with me. Enjoy your time off! Sounds like work is crazy!
