Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer
It has females working in a cafe, but I don't think it is part of a series.

The Teashop Girls, maybe? I'm not sure if it was a series or not, I know there was a followup. No clue if it was ever translated in Croatian. If it wasn't a cafe, it could be the the Babysitter's Club (beginning with Kristy's Great Idea), which features a bunch of girls in the babysitting business around that age. I read them when I was a lot younger, but there are definitely tons of books and it fits your general description. Also pretty well-known and translated into a lot of languages, so...
Hope this helped!
There's a site called Cliquey Pizza that lists a lot of YA/middle grade series from the 80s, you might want to browse through there and see if anything looks familiar...
I am thinking of 2 American series 'Sweet Valley High' or 'Cheerleaders', but it reminded me of 'Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe' by Fannie Flagg too!
Marina--if you bump the thread up every 30 to 90 days you'll have a better chance of getting it ID'ed since it will stay fresh in regular readers minds and will be up where new members can see it.
Doesn't quite fit what you have described ( boys work there too) but maybe it's the @cafe series? https://www.goodreads.com/series/7621...

It was a longer series, with titles cycling through the names of the people who worked there. Thank you for trying, though!

Is there a way to bump it without replying to it? I replied to it so people would know I'm still at it. :)
Marina, do you remember the plots of the book? Were they typical teen topics like the school dance, sports try-outs, etc?
Or, was it a mystery series?
These don't quite fit, but there may be something in the descriptions that triggers a memory about your bookThe Unicorn Club series

Could it be the Hippo Café Club series by Ann Bryant? Each book has a different club member's name in the title.Go for it, Fen!
Jaimini and the Web of Lies
Tash and the Fortune-teller
Leah's Nightmare

Yup, it's the Hippo Café Club series! Thanks so much, the mystery in my brain has finally been solved. It's been nagging me for forever.
:D
Thanks for trying to help, Tab! Sorry I didn't get to reply before.

I think the books were middle grade or very early YA, about a group of female friends who started working in a cafe/bookstore/don't-even-know. They were younger, possibly around 14 and had to get permission from their parents to start working there.
There were loads of books, each one from a different friend's POV, and some mixed.
Very vague, I know. It's been bugging me for ages.
