Veronica Shawcroft | 22 comments December by Phil Rickman and The Fog by James Herbert. Since Mr. Herbert died in March, a lot of his books are coming out in audio unabridged. Yay.

That's great to know. Most of the books I've found by Herbert in audio have been abridged versions.

Angie | 141 comments I'm listening to season one of the we're alive zombie podcast. It's really good.

They're available on Audible.com but you have to be careful and search for 'unabridged' versions because they also have several abridged books by Herbert.

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments Dracula is one of those novels which truly deserves to be called a classic. Had you read it prior to listening to it as an audiobook, Jenn?

message 257: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments actually I had read part of it but I found this audio version with Tim Curry.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments Eileen....I got it off Audible, but you might be able to find it elsewhere. I actually got it for free as I had some coupon thing a long time ago. It is a two part audiobook and is just over 15 hours.

I will be interested to hear what you think. Both my husband and I loved it. We thought the narrator, Ray Porter, was excellent.

I'm listening to 11-22-63.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments so far I like 14. my ipod listening hours got cut back so I haven't got to listen as much as I would've liked.

message 270: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 02, 2013 09:50AM) (new)

I just got Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter The librarian said she was almost convinced there must of been vampires because it was like a documentary with photos and all. I felt disappointed that I would not be able to see the photos. On closer inspection I realize the audiobook comes with a pdf version of all the photos. Yay!

I abandoned Something Wicked This Way Comes. For me it felt like work following & deciphering the prose. And with an audiobook I don't often go back and re-read a sentence or paragraph until I understand like I would with a book.

message 271: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments sounds very interesting!

message 272: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (kheleyr) | 8 comments I decided to listen to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern because it is narrated by Jim Dale!!! He is a fantastic voice artist. He narrated the Harry Potter series as well - that's how I found him.

Eileen You've all peeked my interest in the book 14. I'm sorry I didn't pick it up when it was 4.95 at audible.

Walter wrote: "Just finished listening to From Troy to Constantinople: cities and societies of ancient Turkey. Now listening to The Philosophy, Practice, and Science of Crime Scene Investigation, Part 1: The Mod..."

Walter are you doing research for future books or perhaps in school?

message 278: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments It is awesome Eileen!!

message 279: by Walter (new)

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 573 comments Corinne, it's really a bit of dovetailing. I love learning, and that's why I make use of my driving-to-work time to listen to various lectures from the Modern Scholar series. But I do tend to favor the ones my local library carries which I think might apply to a present or future novel project. :)

message 280: by Alissa (new)

Alissa | 29 comments I have an audio book of Cell, which I've read but wanted to listen to, just got done with the first CD of 12. Read by Campbell Scott

message 281: by Carl (new)

Carl Alves (carlalves) | 56 comments 1356 by Bernard Cornwell. The accent is sometimes hard to understand but a good book so far.

sonny (no longer in use) (satyrica) | 226 comments I would listen but I am definitely not a audio learner so I would lose interest or not notice that it's on. I wouldn't say no to trying it.

message 283: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments I just finished listening to Interview with the Vampire....loved it. I normally can't do audio, but at work while I sort mail I can listen.

I never thought to go to itunes! that is great.

Just a note, anyone else who finds anything good on audio, please message me. I love to read but I did notice I have been reading to much so if I can break it up with an audiobook, that would be great. Thanks!

message 290: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) | 1479 comments I posted in the currently reading thread but actually I am listening to Doctor Sleep (The Shining, #2) by Stephen King

message 291: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments Just finished an advanced audio copy of High Moor by Graeme Reynolds and it was fantastic!

The Angry Lawn Gnome (mostlyharmlessreviews) Just finished The American Civil War A Military History by John Keegan ... Quite good, though the narrator -- Robin Sachs -- had a rather distracting way of pronouncing "Potomac," and said word seemed to come up about every thirty seconds or so, given the topic. When will those zany Brits learn to speak English, eh? :p

Am currently listening to The Man Who Loved China The Fantastic Story of the Eccentric Scientist Who Unlocked the Mysteries of the Middle Kingdom by Simon Winchester . And, as usual, Winchester finds a way to make the oddest topics interesting.

(Funny how I personally find it just about impossible to listen to fiction in an audiobook format. No idea why.)

message 293: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments Eileen, I really loved the audiobook of Hell House. I got it from audible. The reader was very good & it was very disturbing, almost uncomfortable to listen to at times.

message 294: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

I might read Doctor Sleep, since I've read the others.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments i'm having a horrible time getting through Uncle Silas. i do not like Maud at all! how old is this girl? i thought she was 17? She is awful. She's scared of everything! i have no idea how she doesn't die of fright from just walking out of her bedroom every morning. i know, i know. it was wrote along time ago and it was different then but agh! i love Carmilla but i don't know if i can make it through this book.

message 297: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments I just listened to The Squaw. I do not recommend this if u like cats. I do love them and wish I had be warned. it's not terrible, but I wouldn't have listened if I had known. also, The Cold Embrace and Other Ghost StoriesI listened to the cold embrace. I liked it. I had read it before, though.

GeneralTHC | 32 comments I've been listening a little bit to The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America. It seems I can't get away from Scott Brick. He's not bad or anything though, he just reads a little slow for me.
